I recently moved to Los Angeles about 3 months ago from northern NJ right outside of NYC. Lately i have been feeling extremly home sick. And seriously concidering moving back home.
In LA i am working at an indie record label with decent pay, and I have a couple friends but no one really close. I do love California, the weather the culture, and of course In and Out Burger : )
But I dont know if its worth leaving my friends and family back east. But moving home means i will ahve to start all over with finding a job and a place to live.

Can anyone give me some advice on what i should do?

I think it depends how long you have been in L.A for. How long have you been there?

only 3 months. This thing is career wise I have great opportunities in both NJ and LA with what i want to do. I came out here more for the reason to experence new surroundings.

first of all, i love your icon. i'm watching scrubs right now =]

anyway, about your situation...if you just moved out here for the experience of a new surrounding, then stay here for a couple of more months. when you hit 6 months, evaluate your situation. if you still feel like you want to go back to NJ, go ahead. you have people there waiting for you. but then again, no more in-n-out =[

I don't know, I'd say give it a few more months, beause you never know when things will change. But if you still hate it then, and you can still get a cool job in NJ, then go back.

I was feeling the same way you felt when I moved out here about a year and a half ago from the east coast. I say stick it out for a bit. Everyone gets homesick and it's only been a few months. I'm just now adjusting to all the bullshit out here from the east coast.

your neighbors may be sexually straight, but they are still most likely raping little girls (and probably the horses that you speak of)

my friend just moved out there on her own, she was homesick at first too, she gave it time and now she loves it. she was staying with her aunt and uncle and they kicked her out after a month. she basically found friends that let her live with them. she now has her own apt and working as an assistant makeup artist (the reason she went out there). so i guess just give it time, be ambitious, stay positive.

Hahaha.
1. I love my gay neighbor. He rules.
2. I HATE horses, and farms, and country music, and southern accents; and anything of the sort really.
3. I think one of the biggest problems our country has is gun control.

Says the girl from New York.
Exactly.

i'd agree with those who said give it a couple more months. you could end up loving it there, and if you don't, well then you know you have a home on the east coast. it's always good to have that security there, but don't run to it right away...

Just ask yourself this question: Is moving back home worth finding another job and a place to live? But if you want my opinion stay in CA. Its better there.

I would say... stay in california... and work really hard at whatever you're doing.

I think you should stay in L.A. for a while. It seems like such an exciting place to be. Maybe you should visit NJ. Personally i would rather be in L.A. It's personal opinion of the state though. Good luck :]

please dont come if you feel that way. we have enough traffic so obviously people beg to differ that there is something the state offers.

Totally random, but what did you think of NYC when you lived in NJ? (Assuming you went in to the city pretty often)

Edit: This is two years old... X-)

live.

Stick it out. You can always visit home.

i'd say it'd be best of you to stay where you are.

it'll be super costly to move back, and, honestly, you haven't even given LA a chance with only a few months. it'll take some time.

I'm back in New York. I do love it California and do plan on moving back but on better terms. last time was very abrupt and not much planning. But coming back made me a better person. I'm currently a commercial photographer (krisrossphoto.com) and work at I Surrender records when I have time.

My advice to anyone planning on such a decision is do it on your own terms but do not be afraid to take risks or you will regret them down the road.

i was looking at places in LA but its expensive and i wouldn't want to have to live in areas like sketchy ass Lynwood or something. or pay 1000 a month to live in a box.

Look in the Valley (like around the Lake Balboa part of Van Nuys or Reseda). The prices aren't fantastic, but they're not that bad as compared to nicer areas like Sherman Oaks or Woodland Hills. You could probably find a 2 bedroom house in those areas for about $1200-1800/mo. and split it with a roommate, if that's too much for just you to afford on your own. I have heard though that since there are so many foreclosures in the area that the rents have gone up which sucks, but on the bright side, it's more affordable than ever to buy a house in LA!
