Tattoo. I've got one, and will probably get something else this summer.

i dunno. i like both, i guess.
i find scarification nice in the fact that it is totally organic. no added stuff- just you and your skin.

I just associate scars with either awesome stories or gnarly looking marks. The bubbley looking ones just creep me out.

Tattoos for sure. I have one and could see myself getting more, but I don't think I could ever do the scarification stuff.

i don't care for either one. scarification looks gross, btw.

Tattoos..
Scarification just doesn't look like art to me, at all. Tattoos do, but then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Tattoos for sure. Scarification doesn't look as good as tattoos IMO.

I like tattoos because you can share a story through the art of tattooing. As soon as I turn 18 I'm getting one!

i do like tattoos-
there is no denying that they are an amazingly abstract and creative form of art.
but so is scarification. i find all body modification stuff like that really intruiging.
some scarification can be absolutely gorgeous, if done correctly. and really, beauty is all in the eye of the beholder.

Scarification can be cool; branding yourself is incredibly gross and usually looks like shit. Tattoos are usually awesome unless you get meaningless shit (not like, 5 friends decided to go on a whim one night. That's cool, it'll be a reminder of how much fun you have with your friends. I'm thinking more like people who get weird tribal stuff just to look cool)

i really like the look of some scarification. but i'd definately never get it done myself.
so therefore tattoos.

i have a tattoo and i have no problem w/ scarification, but i personaliy would never do it it the doubts it would go wrong and turn out looking all bubbly and gross...

i think part of the reason that branding comes out like crap is that it is hard to control the scarring, and the way the skin deals with the wound--it's different for everyone. same with scarification. it used to be awful, cause people didnt know how to do it. it is still a fairly unknown artform, in that people are apprehensive because it 'will turn out like crap'
there is a scarification/piercing guy near me who is sort of at the forefront of revolutionizing scarification. here's an article i read:

you can also go to precisionbodyart.com to check out his other stuff- he's pretty impressive.
these guys are really great- totally recommend them.

I saw the pictures of that dudes scarification and it was beautiful. You have to have natural talent to be able to do something like that. On the other hand, I hate getting cut by a knife so I'll just stick with tattoos unless they inject numbing medicine in my skin and then I'll get scarred.

isnt it? i love love love his work.
i think that the pain of scarification and tattoos is sort of a huge part of the experience. with out the pain, you loose that whole 'i survived my first tattoo/scar' feeling....

Yeah. That is true with the pain. I think that feeling the pain of a tattoo or a scar makes it more personal.

exactly.
without the pain, youre missing a crucial part of the whole tattoo/scarring/piercing experience.
personally, i think people who dont get body modification because of the fear of the pain are lame. they are letting the fear get in the way of something that they might actually truely enjoy.
i used to freak right out because of pain, but i've learned to enjoy it. in fact, i got my orbitals done specifically for that reason-- i enjoyed the pain.

Tattoos. I'm getting inked for the first time on my 18th birthday. ^.^
I think scarification is unique and neat in it's own way, but with tattoos you have more variety and color and stuff like that, y'know?

thats true, but the spiffy thing about scarification is that it is all organic- no foreign substances injected into you- i mean, it's just you.
