I doubt this will get a lot of posts, which deeply saddens me. However, more people need to love this man. I know I do.

I love the amount of Mighty Duck avatars dominating this thread right now.

Doesn't Butch write songs for a ton of bands beside himself? I know he was in Marvelous 3 but I believe they were more of a one hit wonder. Enlighten me.

summerstars19
04/03/07, 08:20 PM
Yep, he did Marvelous 3, he obviously also does solo work, sometimes also known as Butch Walker and the Let's-Go-Out-Tonites...he really is a solo artist, but has a band. Actually, one of the guitartist, Michael Guy Chislett is now in The Academy Is...Anyway, he's also produced records for Midtown, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, Hot Hot Heat, All American Rejects, and a bunch of other bands.

The man is God.
& for those of yoyu checkin his myspace/purevolume out.
Dig deeper, his newer stuff doesn't even come close to his best.
See: "Sober", "If (Jeannie's Song)" , "Suburbia", "Mixtape", "Don't Move" for his greatest.
Best Live show I've seen.

He produced the new Academy is... album too.
Along with TONS of other awesome stuff (Quietdrive, SR-71, Pete Yorn) much more...

I'm glad to see posts on here. I know he's less well known around here, but the man is honestly extremely talented. Even if people don't like his music he should, at the very least, be appreciated for his songwriting and producing talents.

The Floyds - The Floyds

I dunno if this is allowed, but the album's been deleted and is impossible to find, so I doubt anyone's gonna lose money over it. The Floyds featured all 3 members of the Marvies plus Chrystina Llorée, who guests on 'I'm Losing You' and 'Get Down' on subsequent albums, as well as some other bloke.

I'm so glad I got into this, Left Of Self-Centered is a great album. "Suburbia" has been stuck in my head all day haha.

For some reason, that song reminds me alot of another favorite song of mine, "Rockin' the Suburbs" by Ben Folds. I mean, they both are about the same thing (virtually), but they also have a similar feel, plus the guitar parts are kind of similar.

Pretty neat, haha.

I wanna buy Butch on vinyl. Fuck, if they made M3 on vinyl, I would cum.

Those demos have been out forever. I don't know what he's doing for Sycamore Meadows, but he has enough material to make a double-album (which he should do).

I want to set an interview up with him around the time the album comes out. I would probably be gushing the entire time and if it were face-to-face, I would simply hug him for 45 minutes.

Genuma

sycamore meadows is my most anticipated album of the year. that shit is gonna be epic.

A few weeks ago, I heard so many people shouting Butch Walker's praises that I had to check him out. I downloaded a bunch of his tunes, even a few from the Marvelous 3, I watched a live performance of "Cigarette Lighter Love Song", and I was officially on the bandwagon!

Now, a few weeks removed, I have to say, Butch Walker is only slightly above average. I hear that he's great live, and he does have a couple of very nice songs, but upon closer listens, I find his lyrics to be fairly weak, and while his voice is nice, its really not all that fantastic.

I know my opinion won't count for much, being under 100 posts and all, but I understood the hype for like a week, and now I just don't get what the big deal is. Butch Walker seems a little too run-of-the-mill for me. Maybe his new stuff will blow me away though.

I'm going to do the best I can with trying to score some exclusives for this album. I want to promote the shit outta this one - making no promises, but I want to see what I can do for all my fellow loyalists.

I'm telling you, hooking me up with an interview would pretty much fulfill me on a spiritual level.

Lol "hype" for somebody who has been making music for over 20 years.

And with each and every post you continue to make, the more I believe you to be one of the most ignorant music fans I have ever come across. I don't think you "get" pop music - yet you obviously like Jimmy Eat World, so at least you're on the right track.

I'm telling you, hooking me up with an interview would pretty much fulfill me on a spiritual level.
Pfft, same here dude. If you plan on seeing him live again, setting something up is your job - it's simply trying to contact management and land something. That's why I can't make promises, but I know that I want to get in touch with his people and get something going on here on the site.

Although, to be fair, I have always been more of a LoSC fan because I love Butch's "rawk" side a tad more.

Um...alright. Jimmy Eat World...check. Anything else I can do to make my musical tastes more identical to yours?

What's to "get" about pop music? Or Butch Walker? I'm not hating on him, he's a decent musican, singer, writer, yada yada... just not as blown away by him as everyone else in this thread.

I'll say this...his music, to me, sounds heartfelt. Which is code for "He sounds like he's trying way too hard far too often."

So I picked up Letters after hearing his new song Ships In a Bottle.
I am yet to hear a weak Butch Walker song. That album is amazing and I'll be looking at buying some of his older material as well as Sycamore Meadows.

I've listened to the new album, and upon first listen, it's very quiet, very intimate. The lyrics are obviously full of personal moments and still contain plenty of his signature wit, but it's evident his personal tragedies have been monumentally important in creating this album.

I'd say this album puts him as Atlanta's own Bruce Springsteen. Reminds me a lot of the Boss - and if anyone is a fan of him and Butch, I'm sure you'll see what I mean once you hear the record.

I'd say "ATL" - no question. One of his best songs - I wrote a summary in my blog, if you're interested. It's a stripped down, back-to-basics kind of record -- very personal. I can't say Butch diehards won't love it, because they will understand it more than a mainstream audience. It started connecting with me after two listens, and I feel a personal tug every time I hear a song from it.

You will like it, I promise!

Hey for any fans that could help me out;

Apparently Sunny Day Real Estate (the opening track on Letters) is a portion of a different Butch song entitled Sunny Day - which is a full track. I found this by stumbling upon these lyrics:

http://www.stlyrics.com/songs/b/butchwalker18100/sunnyday501432.html

It is also on various other lyrics sites...

Does anyone know where I'd be able to get ahold of this "Sunny Day" song?

Just downloaded his Cover Me Badd EP and rocking out to the Queen medley as we speak. I have a feeling the few holes still left in my Butch collection are going to be filled by the end of this weekend.

Been spining loads of Butch's stuff the last week or so after reading his book. Such a great artist with such a solid discography.

If you haven't read his book yet I really suggest checking it out, it's so interesting to read about how he came up through the music industry over the years.
