Instrumental Quarter - Traffic Jam
Label: Sickroom Records
Release: 8/29/2006

Who?

An Italian quartet comprised of a guitar player, bass player, drummer, and a rhodes specialist that released their sophomore album Traffic Jam in late August of last year, providing their fans 1100-and-something Myspace fans with their own special brand of instrumental music. The wonderful fact about this band is that, even though they are from Italy (a place not really known for its musical output...name 5 bands from Italy that have made it in the States...quick!), they have over 10000 Myspace plays and are making records that make it over here. Brilliant.

How Is It?

Another great part about this band is that you get to look at their name and you basically know who they are: an instrumental band that is about a quarter as good as Explosions in the Sky. The guitars are heavily emphasized in Traffic, but the occasional violin and rhodes work deliver a breath of originality. Their album title, as well, suggests a time when it is proper to turn your iPod in your car to IQ: the traffic jam. If this music doesn't calm you down, nothing will. With only the occasional growths among the limp and uninspired production, TJ is an ok instrumental release if you're just sick of listening to Explosions' latest masterpiece.

Holla: Explosions In the Sky, Yoga Mats, Herbal Tea, Anathallo
