Have you flown/drove/took a train really far just for a band? Was it worth it?

I'm definitely guilty of doing this.

i drive about an hour and a half(atlanta) for the majority of shows i go to, probably 2 or 3 a month, lots of gas in my big truck, but its usually worth it. I drive to tallahassee which is 3 hours a couple times a year for shows as well. I make sure those are going to be worth it though.

I'm trying to make the trip to Indianapolis for Dudefest in July. Mapquest is telling me its 12 hours. Greyhound is telling me its 19.

Me and friend actually took the 24 hour greyhoud trip from Dryden ON to Barrie for Warped Tour a few years ago. Had an amazing time at the show! Got to see FOB before they were huge, The Offspring!...and a bunch of other good bands....bad part was i was COVERED in dirt and inhaled and swalloed so much dirt and had a rough headache from the sun lol...but anyways dont think i would ever travel that far, especially on a greyhound, but it was fun at the time.

greyhound makes stops and weird detours and such, so its usually much longer unless you get an express bus or something.

farthest i went was 5 hours...but the ride was free. by my own money, 2 hours.

I flew to PA to see the Rolling Rock Town Fair with Blink 182, 311, Sum 41 and others, I pot taped under my nuts too, which was fucking retarded in hindsight.

Flew to NY and took the train to NJ for Thrice's Halloween Show

Gone to New Orleans and Memphis for 311 Day

My friends followed NFG around for 4 shows a few couple years ago into FL, GA and TN.

I've never flown, but I've gone some distance in my car. Nothing out of the midwest but one day when I have friends that like good music and will come with me I see it happening.

I traveled from school to Chicago to see +44 and the matches...a 4 hr drive with traffic and then 2.5 hrs back at 5 am.

Drive 8 hrs (traffic jam) to go to St. Louis Warped. That has a great though extremely expensive story to it. Definitely worth it. Though looking back there was so much I couldn't done to make the day more worthwhile.

I'm making a 3.5 hr drive (each way) to see Motion City Soundtrack in a week or two. And I'll probably be driving the 8 hrs to Minnesota for the release in July.

I think it's incredibly fun to 'follow' bands around. Like if you're going to two+ shows you get to see how a set differs each night and whatnot. And if you just travel a long way you get a good story/adventure.

Flown to Cleveland 3 times to go to some shows with my friends who live out there.

Two trips to San Diego (8 hours), and last year an absolutely retarded drive to Las Vegas (10 hours) and then from there to Los Angeles (which took 6 hours thanks to a detour and traffic).

I do 2 & 3 hour drives fairly regularly, the rare time a tour I want to see doesn't come to San Francisco.

The furthest I've driven is 3 hours to Seattle for a show, DTR showcase on a warped tour off day where tickets were $1.07 (107.7 the end is the big rock radio station up there) with Allister, Homegrown, TSL, SoCo, and Finch. San Fran and Boise are at least 8-12 hour drives so hell no. Spokane is probably 6, but they don't usually get shows that Portland doesn't already get.

when bands come to australia they usually decide to miss the capital.
which means that i am always making a 3 hour drive/bus ride to see bands.

jesus, it amazes me that some of you kids think 3 hours is a long time to drive for bands. i have to drive AT LEAST to norfolk (2 hours) or DC (3 hours) to see most bigger shows, and if its a tour i really want to go see more than once, i have no problem seeing it in Maryland (3.5 hours), NYC (6 hours) or NJ (5 hours) .. I guess traveling just isn't that big of a deal to me. I have been to NYC or NJ to see probably 10 or 11 shows. usually worth the drive.

I consistently drove 2 hours to shows throughout college, which isn't that big of a deal. However, when you have classes and midterms and/or finals long drives are not really acceptable for the cash you're dropping on college. You at least have the luxury of intermediate length drives to other cities. The west coast isn't as close together as the east coast. Props on TGUK though, that sounds like a memory to last a lifetime.
