I think Morishima will hold the title into the summer, and then McGuiness will dethrone him. A month or two ago, I might have said Davey Richards, but it seems that people are starting to catch on to his being overrated.
Lost Glories

gerweck.net is pretty good too.
did you see that *** chris kanyon retired?

Whatever. He needed to get the cheap heat. If he was wrestling some hispanic dude and he was like "No Mexican is gonna beat me!" I wouldn't be offended, myself.
Yeah Chris Kanyon is going to retire for about.. 4 months before announcing his big gay return to wrestling.
What time are you getting to PWG tomorrow?

Figured there was enough people interested to have a thread.
-Who do you think will dethrone Morishima? Will McGuiness? A Returning Danielson?
-Undertaker World Champ (Final Run?) Thoughts?
-John Cena's 3rd Consecutive Wrestlemania Win. (Two Main Events) Thoughts?
-Backlund v. Starr? WTF? Thoughts?
As for Undertaker's final run, I wouldn't mind seeing him defend it successfully all the way through until next year's Wrestlemania, and then lose it to the Royal Rumble winner (ideally, Cena).

Who do you think will dethrone Morishima?
Danielson is pretty much set to become new NWA champ when TNA lose the rights to the belt, so he won't be coming back to ROH anytime soon. My guess would be Mcguiness too. I can't think of any other realistic contenders now.
As for WWE. Taker being champ is one of the best things they have done lately, although I still enjoy watching Raw. Cena retaining is kinda weird. Hopefully he will keep it until Triple H comes back and loses it to him.

As for Cena having the title. I'm all for him holding onto it as long as possible. When the title is passed around like crazy(upwards of 4, 5, or even 6 title changes in a year, all different title holders), it loses its luster. But thats only my opinion.
I am STOKED that Taker is the champion. It could very well be his final run, but I think he has 5 more years left in him, at least.
I hate Batista.
I've never seen ROH. Anyone know where I can check it out?

Thank you for that link. I've been wanting to see that match. I watch WWE more than anything else. I mainly stick to Raw and ECW. I'm also sick of Cena being WWE champion, but it'll only mean that much more when someone finally beats him. The real thing will be to keep the title after Cena gets that rematch. Isn't that how Edge ended up dropping the title back to him both times?
I'm a big CM Punk fan, so I try to watch whenever I think or hear about him being on any WWE program. I like ROH and just about any other indy promotion, but don't see a whole lot. I have a few links to message boards that have people uploading matches from all wrestling promotions from the past and present. I could post it here if anyone is interested.
I liked Batista up until his jump to SmackDown!. Ever since then...it's been downhill. He's sloppy and you can tell he doesn't really care about wrestling. I'm just glad Undertaker didn't fuck up his Wrestlemania streak for that douchebag. It'll also be interesting to see who takes the title off of Taker. Kennedy maybe? Another Kennedy/Taker feud wouldn't be horrible as their match at Armageddon last year was pretty decent. What do you guys think of Bobby Lashley? He's pretty much just another Batista in my eyes.

It's good to see Jack back in ROH.
The only reason from what I can tell Cena still has the title is because their marketing[WWE] with stores like HOT TOPIC, has a shitload of shirts of him with the blet and slogans like "The Champ is Here." if he were to lose that title, noone would fucking buy any of his garbage shirts. So sadly, due to marketing of Cena shirts and them selling well, WWE feels there are still plenty of Cena fans out there and are still fine with him being the champ.

i just finished watching that homocide-daniels match. it was my first taste of ROH and i loved it. i would like to see more and if anybody has any, please share it.
what amazed me most about this match was the crowd. it was only 1400, but they were louder and more into it than just about any WWE crowd i've ever seen, even though the WWE crowds are 10 or 11x times larger. they were into every second of the match, especially the finishers and the submissions - they chanted, they marked out, they cheered. and when homocide won, they flipped out like no crowd i've ever seen before. it was awesome.
some of the moves were a little sloppy, the production/camera work is obviously low budget, and i was not impressed with the build up to the finish of the match. daniels kicks out of homocides devestating finisher, but a huge clotheslines puts him out after 40 minutes? give me a break.
great technical wrestling, though. loved it.
Indy crowds are awesome for the most part. I have Austin Aries/CM Punk for the title, and there's a good 5-10 minutes of Aries with Punk in a side headlock while he's trying to get out of it. A few people in the crowd starting chanting "Boring! Boring!", and then everyone else immediately shouted "Shut the fuck up! Shut the fuck up!"
I upload a few more matches tonight and post them up here. Not sure exactly what I have actually.

Well it'll be a nice change, don't get me wrong, but it'll be that much more significant when someone does finally beat Cena and is able to have a decent reign with it. And storyline-wise, it'll be the same when someone is able to beat Umaga for the intercontinental title. The guy has only been beaten by Cena and Lashley(as far as I can recall). It'll probably be as significant as when Lashley broke the Masterlock. I hate Umaga since he's basically just WWE's watered down version of Samoa Joe, but whoever beats him ends up getting a huge push and I'm all for that.

Lashley isn't horrible in the ring, but I'm not a big fan of powerhouse wrestlers. He's also pretty awful on the mic. To each his own though.

I think that's partly the reason. Cena is big with the little kids and the women who are actually in the audience. The kids look up to him and the women think he's hot. He sells a lot of merchandise. If he turned heel or lost the title, it may fuck things up...or at least that's how WWE creative looks at it. As of right now, it looks like if he dropped the title it'd be to either HBK, Orton, or Edge...or possible Triple H when he returns. Maybe they're holding off to build someone else up new to take the title from Cena. It could be Kennedy, it could be Lashley, hell...it could be CM Punk. Who knows? WWE programming is also more interesting when the face is chasing the heel for the title and not the other way around.

As for Cena, to this point he still is not a favorite in the male, 18-34 demographic which is the core of WWE viewers. He still gets several boo's and for the most part still isn't over with that crowd. Sadly he continue's to carry the strap even without that huge support that WWE would usually want.

He was a heel as The Prototype in OVW, however his first apperance on WWE tv was on SmackDown! when he came out and accepted an open challenge made by Kurt Angle, due to the whole Vince talking about "Ruthless Agression" thing. It was actually a good match and Cena held his own on the mat with Angle. It's sad that now he simply doesn't use the technical abilities that he really does have.

Reguarding kicking out of the finisher and then being put out by a clothesline, this is most likely due to you only viewing WWE in which finishers have become the official end to a match and really just over hyped. Not long ago when the name was still WWF, finisher's were not always used to end the match. One of my favorite matches of all time, Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart at Wrestlemania X was won with a vicotry roll, yet it was just as dramatic as any finisher.
I would rather see someone take a finisher, kick out and then not have enough to kick out of a smaller, yet still well landed move. WWE have conditioned people to pop for the finisher and to have it end pretty much every damn match, which once again just drives home the fact that their in-rng quality is below par.

no no no i agree with you here. bret vs. own, in my opinion, is one of the better matches ever, and certianly one of the best opening matches to a PPV.
i have been a WWE fan pretty much since i was in elementary school, so i have adapted to their match habits. however, i guess my point was the entire last 4-5 minutes of the match was not built up as well as it could have been. here you've got this huge dramatic 40 minute match that has already been continued once, and somebody's career is on the line as well as a world title and out of nowhere comes this dramatic finisher that looks devastating and he kicks out. Ok, that's awesome .. but 30 seconds later, a clothesline puts him out? I would have liked a little bit better buildup towards that clothesline - it was great, but it could have been amazing.
just my 2 cents.

i have been a WWE fan pretty much since i was in elementary school, so i have adapted to their match habits. however, i guess my point was the entire last 4-5 minutes of the match was not built up as well as it could have been. here you've got this huge dramatic 40 minute match that has already been continued once, and somebody's career is on the line as well as a world title and out of nowhere comes this dramatic finisher that looks devastating and he kicks out. Ok, that's awesome .. but 30 seconds later, a clothesline puts him out? I would have liked a little bit better buildup towards that clothesline - it was great, but it could have been amazing.
just my 2 cents.
While a different move could've been better, at least it was a clothesline with some mustard on it and Danielson sold it very well. It didn't just look like an average clothesline. Still a better match than WWE has put on since I don't know when.
I've got to agree with chokey somewhat. That match had been built up for months, and everyone knew Homicide was winning the title. Even when Danielson put cattle mutilation on, I knew Homicide would get out of it. So yeah, I was expecting a little more from that match considering how rare title changes are in ROH.ß

I would've liked to see something different end the match, however my point was that finishers as a whole, especially in WWE are just terrible.
The F-U is nothing more than a body slam, same as the Rock Bottom. The list of terrible ones goes on, but thats a different story.
WWE can get away with that though, since they are appealing to a way different audience. I still love seeing Randy Orton just hit an RKO out of nowhere, or the anticipation of Sweet Chin Music. That idea of finishers is very much terrible, but damn it is entertaining.
Speaking of, has anyone noticed CM Punk starting to use the Go-2-Sleep? What's up with that?
I am glad the Hardys are champs.

i'm watching raw right now and i don't understand how they can try to keep Cena as a face or even a headliner. the boos almost overshadow the cheers. his mic skills are horrible too. but not nearly as bad as his ring performance.
Cena's mic skills were awesome when he first started in WWE. He had those horrible raps he'd do, they were so funny to watch.

not necessarily. i dont think they want high impact finishers due to the fact that they can be botched very easily. and wwe is very protective over there investment. but then again any move can be botched to cause injury. i just think they dont like to push their luck.
im surprised they let punk do the go2sleep since you can easily break a nose or jaw.
so dont expect a cop killer or even a psycho driver from any of the superstars.
id love to see someone execute a yakuza kick like good ol' El Generico. his are legendary imo. full impact to the face.

Can't blame him really heh.
Maybe WWE just doesn't want him using the Pepsi Plunge, since it's just a Pedigree from the top rope.

For years they've toned down certain moves, that is to be expected by them though. However it's plain annoying to someone who isn't a casual fan, although WWE could care less.
Cena for example again, not only is the F-U a body slam, his "STFU" in no way looks like it would cause pain to his opponenet. His just puts his arms across his face and acts like an idiot.
Another example, the tombstone and all piledrivers were banned years ago, yet they would still allow them to happen every once in awhile, do them and trust that trained althletes will execute them properly or don't do them at all. Owen Hart's piledriver that hurt Austin's neck to me is a different story, accidents to happen, however as long as people are trained right, they wont. Of course, WWE brings in some pretty shitty people sometimes that I wouldn't let pick me up in the air.
The last thing, finishers that have been changed. The main example would be The Pedigree. For years, HHH would hold onto both arms on the way down, for the longest time now he simply lets go and pushes on their back, ugh, no thank you.
As for CM Punk not being able to do the Pepsi Plunge, the main reason would be it is out of the WWE style which is extreme safety first, in most cases. Second would be since it's a version of the Pedigree. However, the safety is the main reason, same reason the shooting star press has also been banned, or it was for quite some time.

I thought the shooting star press was banned because Paul London landed on Juvi's head or something. I remember reading about it, but it's been awhile and there's been so much wrestling news since then.
I like Punk doing the Go 2 Sleep. I like the move, I like KENTA, and I like Punk. So if he's influenced by KENTA and/or wants to use one of his moves...I'm all for it. I was actually hoping to see a Go 2 Sleep off the top of a ladder during the MITB match at Wrestlemania. Extremely dangerous? Yeah, but it would have been incredibly awesome.

I disagree, I thought he looked strong in that match - he didn't get too much offense, but there wasn't much to go around. You can only get so many spots in when there's 8 guys in there. At least he got the last "fake finish" of the match, and for a moment, it looked like he was going to grab the briefcase.

I don't think he was disappointing, but it seems like whenever he's in a match with higher stakes...he gets fucked over. It was the same way at that match at Survivor Series(I think) where he teamed up with The Hardy Boyz and DX. It was like...the only reason he was able to stay in the match was because HBK saved him after Orton hit that RKO on him. When he's in singles competition, I think he's been pretty strong. Look how long he was undefeated. He also just beat King Booker on SmackDown! a week or two ago. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing him in ROH and being on the whole indy scene but at least this way I can actually see him wrestle on cable every week and not have to worry about buying a DVD or waiting for someone to put up the download from his latest match because I wasn't able to see it.
Another thing, there are no indy wrestling shows around here that I know of. That PWG tag team tournament sounds amazing. It's a shame something like it isn't coming to Houston.

Hopefully you got the first one in 2005 and not last years. If you got the first one, the first match should make you happy, Lionheart Chris Jericho vs. Lance Storm, wooooo!
So, while this isn't the best example, it does show that John Cena is capable of decent matches, especially with talent like Bryan Danielson. Now remember, I hate Cena, however this does show that for some that may not know, there was a time when he could hold his own in the ring.

Rey Mysterio dvd I bought a couple of years ago. The story portion of it is terrible, however some of the matches are classics.
His debut match against Malenko, first cruiserweight championship win vs. Malenko, vs. Psicosis at Bash at the Beach, vs. Jericho at Bash at the Beach and vs. Guerrero, plus several WWE ones that are okay.
The past couple hours I was watching some of those and the Chris Beniot dvd with those three great New Japan Pro Wrestling matches on there.

If you don't have Supercard Of Honor, I'd recommend getting that (if you haven't seen the famous Blood Generation vs. Do Fixer match.)

I had never heard of ROH until I read this post. It looks pretty cool and I will definately check out some matches when I get off work. I noticed some of the ROH wrestlers were on that Wrestling Society X show that was on MTV a couple months ago. It was cancelled (I think), I wonder what you all thought of it?
I only caught the last hour of RAW last week, but I thought it was pretty weak, accept for the Hardy's match. I'm really glad they are the new world tag team champs.

ROH is Hands Down the best wrestling in the US today.
full of all the up and coming stars. they bring in alot of Japanese wrestlers as well to spice things up. although they have been slowly losing there top guys lately they still have plenty left.
Wrestling Society X, in my opinion, while good at putting local indy guys on TV, was horribly packaged as some sort of gimmick promotion. with all the non sense explosions, the over the top ring announcer, and they also had there fare share of overrated veterans. as you can see it did alot for some wrestlers getting signed to WWE such as Matt Classic (Colt Cabana)(although hes tied in with CM Punk and Ace Steel who is in Deep South...and i believe Ricky Steamboat and mick foley loved the guy) and alot of the guys getting some try out matches.
WWE is at its worst right now. the only good thing they did was put the belt around TAKER and making Kennedy Mr. MITB.

matt hardy was nothing without jeff.
Matt Hardy was nothing without Jeff in the WWE. WWE is horrible about holding him back. I think he could do quite well in singles competition if he wasn't held back so much. His indy matches in ROH were quite good and I would've liked to have seen him do more.
I didn't see it, the card looked alright though.
I've got the Joe/Kobashi match already, so is the rest of the card worth it?

I'm always considering buying more ROH DVDs or more indy wrestling DVDs, in general. So any recommendations or reviews would be awesome.
EDIT: I wanted to come back and edit this because my comments made it seem like I hadn't read the previous posts...but I have. I(and I'm sure many others) appreciate all the recommendations that have been already mentioned, but if anyone has any other ones...please feel free to share them.

I would suggest PWG's Battle of Los Angeles 2006
http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/merch/058.html
Stand-out matches:
CIMA vs. El Generico(very very very underrated wrestler)
Super Dragon vs. Necro Butcher
Roderick Strong vs. Rocky Romero
Roderick Strong vs. Davey Richards
Jack Evans vs. Genki Horiguchi
Davey Richards vs. Austin Aries
Jack Evans vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Genki Horiguchi vs. Chris Hero
Seriously, great set of shows.

PWG's All Star Weekend IV Night 2 (http://www.highspots.com/product.asp?id=15924&category=0)
El Generico vs. PAC is the best match I've ever seen in person, and in terms of highspots and high-flying action, I'll put that match up against ANYTHING. Phenomenal match, absolutely incredible, and worth the price all by itself. If you can find a place to download that match, grab it, but otherwise, I recommend this DVD

shelton has no charisma.
hes a great athlete no doubt. but nowadays you cant get by on just athleticism. you need great mic skills. etc.
matt hardy was nothing without jeff.
i can slap a tornado.
Concerning Shelton, his lack of Charisma is why Team Angle worked so well. Angle did all the talking for them and they put on outstanding matches with anyone they faced. I would love to see them agianst Kendrick and London, most likely the only current WWE match I would pay to watch.

That would be a great match...or at least has the potential to be.
Also, Signals Corrupted, thanks for the recommendations. I may end up getting one or both of those sometime soon.

They were dumb to split them up to begin with just like they were with every other great tag team they had. The only one that was smart was Edge and Christain because they both could speak really well. Christain actually got screwed because he was so good on the mic that he really could've had a good title run.

Yeah, that's true. The only problem is a lot of the time WWE throws a superstar into the title picture who has great mic skills, but doesn't have very good in-ring skills. Kennedy and The Rock are pretty good examples. Both are entertaining, but when it comes to wrestling...they're not the greatest. I'd rather have them hold someone back a bit longer than to throw someone into the title picture too soon.

Thats insane. Some of that I'd never ever seen before - like the hurracarana where both the briscoe and the jap spring-boarded off the ropes into each other. I'm so stoked to see the Briscoes in a Tag Tourney next month. They are so solid.

I've been watching even more NOAH videos after I watched that one. For some reason years ago when I was hardcore into wrestling I never watched any Japan matches except for Beniot's in New Japan, which were great, especially against Jushin Liger. This makes me want to see even more Japanese matches, those fucking Japanese do everything so well.

Greatest wrestling game ever, my friend and I often have 30, normal single matches. So intense.
Malenko is not only one of my favorite wrestlers ever, he is also one of my favorite on that game. There's a mod for the emulator, project 64 in which it's the No Mercy engine but all TNA, ROH and NOAH. I couldn't get it to work on my old PC though and it wont work on my mac now damnit. The original is still fun as hell though.

Sadly I've never got to see a full match of his, hook a brother up with a link?
As for Malenko, he was perfect not to mention he would work on any body part and wouldn't repeat a move in a twenty minute match. His first match in WCW with Mysterio was incredible, worked on the arm the whole match, at one point put Rey's arm over the guardrail, then pulled it back through one of the slots, backed up and kicked the guardrail. Stuff like that is what was so great about him, always something new.
But I will have to search for some Strong videos tomorrow, anyone modern day who is close to Malenko makes me excited.

It was an alright match for what it was, Strong did look great in it and not far into the match he reminded me of Malenko right away by doing the cartwheel while in the armlock. I do love how he uses all the back breakers to set up for other moves though, like in that match the Boston crab.
Find that match for me, as for now though, back to Low Ki vs. KENTA.

I just may get that, the only ROH dvds that I have are all three from 2002. Some good matches on there, but not the same quality they're putting on now. Plus I've been wanting to get some of their newer ones, I just have no idea which ones. That could be one though.
I will watch that KENTA vs. Strong video tomorrow, I look forward to it.
