James Iha will not be rejoining (http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2007/04/06/former_smashing_pumpkin_james_iha_r ules) The Smashing Pumpkins (http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/).

chamberlain already said that corgan is playing guitar so I'm not surprised, now the question is auf der mar, eric avery, or someone else on bass

frankly i don't give a fuck what the incarnation is.
i've loved this band since i was twelve, and am now tenty-one, and i never got to see them.
so yeah, as long as i get to see Billy Corgan rock out a few Smashing Pumpkins tunes, i'm all set.

yeah, but the way he worded it made it seem like only corgan was playing, I can't find the myspace bulletin now

It's all good. I do wonder what will be going on with the bass... I don't really care who is playing it since I am fairly indifferent to the reunion as a whole, but if it's just Corgan and Chamberlain it's less of a "reunion" and more of a "vanity project".

really? i did not know that, but that is interesting
i guess if Billy considers the pumpkins his band then he can do whatever he wants, and undoubtedly will despite what we or anyone else has to say about it
i respect Iha's decision tho, im guessing he see's it sort of as "been there, done that".. why rehash the past, he did some fine work with APC, and who knows if they'll make another album..
anyway, so yea, im done rambling

I mean, if Iha hasn't talked to Corgan in years and they've talked some shit about each other and haven't appeared to mend anything, why bother participating in it? Makes sense to me.

well this is no surprise considering corgan and chamberlain were the only original members to record zeitgeist. it would be odd for other members to not be a part of the album and then just jump on the tour.

04/07/07, 12:16 PM
really, it doesn't matter. corgan wrote most of the songs (iha only wrote 10-15. only 8 in their major discography (the real albums)), and like someone else said, billy played all the guitar and bass parts in Siamese Dream, so it is a Pumpkins reunion.
also, this isn't a zwan reunion because then they would need another two spots to fill on guitar and also they played a more positive type of music.

Without James Iha and D'arcy it's not Smashing Pumpkins, its just a new Billy Corgan band.

Well i am a fan of James, but this could still be cool. I didn't like the Billy Corgan solo album, but this could be decent. I still look forward to this considering i'm a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan and also a huge fan of Billy Corgan.

I may be one of the 4 people in the world that loved Zwan. Granted not as much as the Pumpkins but I still thought it was good stuff. Better than his solo album for sure.

1) As many people have said, Billy Corgan played all the guitar and bass tracks on Siamese Dream and supposedly Gish as well
2) Billy Corgan wrote or co-wrote nearly every pumpkins song
3) any pumpkins fan knows that Billy Corgan TAUGHT James Iha to play guitar, so anything Iha plays is basically just mirroring Corgans's playing
4) Darcy is just a familiar face in the grand scheme of a reunion, all her bass parts could be played by any run of the mill bass player. She contributed NOTHING to the band's music except for some vocals on a couple songs.
plain and simple, the main elements of Smashing Pumpkins' sound are Corgan's songwriting and guitar tones and Jimmy Chamberlin's unique one of a kind drumming style. James and Darcy were never a big role in the band. It was always Corgan's baby and he needed a 2nd guitarist and bassist mainly for touring. Listen to the Adore album. It's so unlike the pumpkins because there was no Chamberlin due to his drug problems at the time. Hell, Zwan is much closer to Smashing Pumpkins than anything on Adore. Chamberlin is the only irreplaceable one. Anyone else would be playing the parts that Corgan writes EXACTLY the same as James and Darcy would. That's just a fact.

no, that zwan album was solid...as long as corgan is playing sp songs, i don't care who is in the band with him.

Ill buy that. Most stuff Billy Corgan does is still better than 90% of the stuff passing for alternative/modern rock these days.
If you find someone who would rather listen to Hinder than new Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan/Billy Corgan solo please do the music world a favor and punch them in the genitals.
4) Darcy is just a familiar face in the grand scheme of a reunion, all her bass parts could be played by any run of the mill bass player. She contributed NOTHING to the band's music except for some vocals on a couple songs.
She also contributed her nipples to the Adore liner. That's got to count for something.
Saying SP won't be good without James and D'arcy is like saying Ben Folds wouldn't be good without Robert Sledge and Darren Jesse.
