i don't think there are many but Shawshank Redemption (based off the short story by Stephen King) is absolutely one of them.

Lord of the Rings. They condensed it but made three excellent movies
(before anyone says The Notebook, I just have to say that was the worst movie/book adaptation I've ever watched)

i'm not a fan of LOTR... but i can assume it was probably pretty accurate to the books.

I would have to say it's not very accurate......sarumans death by the hobbits and the hobbits battle scene.

yeah, not very accurate at all. The battle at the end of the second movie took like 5 chapters or less in the book (i think, it's been a while). But overall they captured the adventure and basic storyline well. And the scenery- they nailed it.

Fight Club was accurate and amazing.
I wish I had seen "To Kill A Mockingbird" before I read the book, because I love the book so much and when I saw the film they missed out so many of my favourite moments that I was really pissed

why would you say LOTR?
Return of the Kings adaptation was just horrible.
I haven't read the book, but I hear Children of Men isn't a bad adaptation

all of the harry potter movies were awful. the books are a million times better. i mean, dont get me wrong, theyre fun to watch, but they miss out on so many key parts of the books.

Yeah...that was the first thing I was going to come in to type...outside of that, its difficult because the mediums are so different in their approaches, both visually and in terms of running time. I think only shorter stories adapt well, since the director can expand upon them...

i hope you are talking about the mini-series released by the bbc and not the bastardization with keira knightley in it. that was awful

i agree. both the movie and novel were fantastic. if i remember correctly, they switched around the two guys who work in the store for the movie. and the book had a few more scenes... but overall, it was great.

Fincher's ending was the worst part of the film. It totally changed the charcter of Tyler Durden.

Chuck Palahnuik actually wrote the ending to the movie. He said he liked it much better than the ending in the book.

all quiet on the western front...its an oldie but its a goodie
lotr was s terrible adaptation but a good movie. it is freaking difficult to turn a 400 page novel into a 2.5 hour movie....though i thought jackson did a good job.
i liked the gary sinise version of "of mice and men"

Thats dissapointing. Since the bombs didn't go off in the book, it showed that jack could control tyler and/or that tyler was actually a coward. Also since they were blowing up a building in order to destroy a museum, destroying history and restarting it, was more in line with the ideals that tyler was after than destroying credit.

i agree about LOTR, it wasn't accurate but for what you can do in a movie i think they were great.
also love Of Mice and Men.
I love The Notebook too, movie and the book was decent. Any Nicholas Sparks book could be made into a decent chick flick haha

nothing i was kidding.
I can't believe people are complaining about the LOTR adaptation. :hitself:
the only thing that warrants criticism is leaving out the real ending of King, I wish Jackson would have at least filmed it and put it on the special edition DVD

i wish he could have done that as well. :-(

He would have only been able to do it if he knew it would be in the movie, and time constraints just wouldn't allow it. That would take at the most condensed a half hour, but more likely an hour to get it right and to add a battle scene (which would cost too much for just a deleted scene)

Well, the film was great. I can't say much bad about it. But I've read that the story changed in the transition. I can't remember the actual changes, but supposedly some of them were key ideas.

I just need at least some sort of action or meaning, and to me it was just people talking without any purpose, and I am expecting people to attack me but hope they don't use the oscars argument, since million dollar baby was mediocre and won best picture
If you seriously think that all LOTR is comprised of is people talking about nothing and people walking to no where you are an idiot and can't follow movies.

It's fine thinking it's boring or whatever but people who say that it's not about anything and is all filler are stupid.
