Drive By- I Hate Every day Without You Kid...
Label: Riot Squad Records
Release: May 9, 2006
Who?
A Jersey quartet that, after appearing on the Alternative Press "100 Bands You Need to Know" list in 2006, has toured tirelessly with the likes of Hit the Lights, Saves the Day, Circa Survive, My Chemical Romance, and Moneen. With almost 300,000 plays on their personally run MySpace, the band seem to be making their name in an ever-growing internet-fueled music scene.
How Is It?
Well, other than the utter surprise that the cd wreaked absolute havoc on my iTunes (I'm sure a mis-cue), there really isn't too much that stands out from Drive By's debut. The songs have slight tinges of the historic Long Island punk of tourmates Saves the Day, but way too much of Florida heavy rock boys The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Their lyrics aren't deep or thoughtful; Drive By are a bro-band intent on making songs about girls or standing up for them (ie: the bands opener "... you're not alone"). If you're looking for a good rock out band, then check out the first half of Drive By's debut; if you're looking for some thoughtful rock that isn't light by any means, you're better off looking elsewhere. But overall, solid debut with plenty of radio-friendly rock joints.
I Got "Face Down" Fever!: The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Frat Parties, the reinvented rock mullet, Hit the Lights.
