The Academy Is (http://www.absolutepunk.net/theacademyis) sold around 33,928 copies of their new album in its first week, The Almost (http://www.absolutepunk.net/thealmost) pushed close to 29,292 copies.

i'm suprised the almost sold that many. i guess all the underoath kids swallowed their pride to hear this album.
great album, though, i'm happy for him.

i figured they would come in around the same numbers, everything they have been doing has been around the same time, new songs, music video release, album release. i feel like they are parallel albums right now

it strays away from "sounding like fall out boy," it is very 90s rock (alot of butch walker influence)

I'm so surprised that The Almost sold so many copies. Once their songs hit radio that band is taking off. My prediction is when The Almost sells 500K, Aaron leaves Underoath. In UO he probably makes 1/6 of the band income but in The Almost he'll be making 100% of the income and just paying the touring members a fee per show, or at least that's what most 1 man bands do.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. It's possible that this is just my initial impression, but I thought it was just way too indie. Like, the only song that sounded remotely close to the last album was the very first one on the cd, Same Blood. Like I remember popping the cd into my computer and hearing that song and being like, this cd is going to blow me away. Then getting to the rest of the cd and being like, I honestly don't care anymore.
But the Almost was a really solid release. It definantly has some potential, but I doubt it'll go gold. I really like it though. Amazing, Because It Is is an excellent song. But some of the songs lose a bit on the slower choruses in faster songs, but I still rather like the cd.

Unhappy with selling over 30K in one week? That's something like 1/4th of their entire last album sales. I'm thinking they're ecstatic.

It's a shame you don't care about Santi anymore. It's definitely not an album that you instantly fall in love with... I hated it at first just as much as the next guy, but after a couple more listens, I am more than in love with it. I applaud TAI's effort to do something new with their sound, and I think it worked out well for them.

Like the guy above me...Santi really grew on me. What an awesome first week for TAI too! I definitely expected The Almost to sell way more, but if Virgin steps in and starts really pushing them to radio/tv, I can see them getting really huge.

We'll see if it grows on me, but yea, at the moment, I give it a big thumbs down. All these pop/punk bands going indie just pisses me off. But I'm going to continue to play it through to see what happens. I try to give every album a fair chance.

I actually enjoyed The Almost's album... didn't listen to the The Academy Is...how is it?
Massively disappointing. Most of the songs are pretty lifeless and I don't see the album growing on me. I've listened to it like 4 times and I can't see myself sitting through it again.

Awe, I hope not.
I doubt he will, just because the kind of guy he is.
OU's definitely better, but The Almost's a really fun listen; the two slow songs really make the CD.

Right now, his time can be divided between the two but eventually there is a good chance he'll eventually have to decide one over the other. I'd choose the one where he get's 100% (Almost) of the band profits instead of the one he get's 16% (UO).
Yeah, you may say "sell out" but remember the shelf life of most musicians is only a few years and they have to financially live the rest of their lives on the money they make in those few years of fame.
For me, Southern Weather was a much better album than Santi. Maybe it's because I am not much of a fan of The Academy Is... vocals. I liked "We've Got A Really Big Mess On Our Hands" and the first song off of Santi, but not the other songs. When I had first heard of The Almost I liked what I was hearing, and then Aaron came out with "Say This Sooner" and it blew me away. When I bought Southern Weather I was expecting to hear a lot of great songs that I heard when I saw The Almost live. Upon listening to the whole cd I thought it was just an alright cd, but now that I have listened to it more, I love it. "Say This Sooner," "Southern Weather," "Never Say I Told You So" and the two slow songs, "Dirty and Left Out" and "Amazing Because It Is," are amazing. Jeremy Enigk and Kenny from The Starting Line make the tracks they appear on stand out. I suggest giving The Almost a second listen if you weren't impressed and then buy it.

it's not always about the money.
if aaron says underoath is his chief priority, i am inclined to believe that until he says/does something to change that status.

sure did, and i understand what you're saying. but he has the right people working with him to make sure his finances are in order for now and in the future, regardless of which project he ends up pursuing for a longer period of time.
