The word "Gay"

The word gay is way over used. Gay, *** and what ever else is being given a negative meaning. Well im not gay before you jump on me but so what if i was. We all make choices and there are own. My friend had called something gay and there was someone who was gay sitting right there he felt like shit afterwords. I think we all should stop saying it if we do and police are friends too. If someone says something is gay be like "ya its gay" "don't you mean its stupid". Then explain to them gay people are not stupid. I just think it would be a better world if even just the members here stop saying it.

I don't think most people are directly making fun of gay people when they use the word, it just becomes a habit that's hard to break. I know when I say it I'm not making fun of gay people, I see nothing wrong with being gay, it's just something that you hear so often growing up you just do it to.

I really agree with you. I have several friends who are homosexual. They are tortured for it. One of the best teachers I have ever met happened to like his own gender. He was a great person. And people were soooo rude to him. It's not right of people to use slurs like that. It would be like the word ******, or looking at something and saying, that's so Jewish. It's just NOT RIGHT. Personally, I think this thread was pointless. I say '***' and 'queer' all the time. I know it's wrong and some of my friends really hate it but I'm not going to stop using it anytime soon. The person that started this thread sounded pretty queer to me.

I have a friend thats gay and she announces it and makes fun of herself all the time. She had a sticker on her shirt yesterday at warped that said "TheFag" (it was originally "TheFags" but she ripped the 's' off so it worked better). I don't know where the sticker came from, but she didnt care. Its all about how sensitive the person is. I think people today are really way to sensitive. Grow some fucking skin.

But I do try to avoid saying gay as an insult. I used to be kinda bad, but I've really toned it down.

i can see where you're coming from, but you're still wrong.

the word "gay" used to mean happy, and somehow it came to mean "homosexual" and well people don't like homosexuals so they started using it as an insult, being the equilivent of the word "stupid" so basically using the word "gay" meaning stupid, is like saying "homosexuals are stupid"

not to mention the fact that people use the word "***" in the same way, and don't tell me they mean ciggarette.

next you'll say "***" means "stupid" then "fairy" then "fruit" and so on, the fact is "gay" still means "homosexual" it's just used in a "homosexuals are stupid, so are you" fashion

i think the word gay could deffinate be used less to describe stuff we don't like. i think it could acceptably be used like the word queer is. in america queer is automatically linked to homosexuals however is commonly used in forign countries, europe, as odd or out of the ordinary (which gays are).

i always said "if you can make one person laugh without offending someone else, you're doing something wrong" but i have to say i disagree with you. In my town, gay is a comment used all too often. People are constantly saying "That's gay" or "What, are you gay or something?" nonstop. It's pretty crazy how constantly we say gay in this town. I find it funny that some people are saying things like "gay shouldn't be used to mean dumb." i also think that this can best be compared to using the word retarded, lots of people use that word to describe something stupid, except that i dont think you would really call someone whos mentally handicapped retared because its rude. maybe its not the same thing but we could just stop using the word gay to describe homosexuals. then again its not just the word its the meaning beind it, ok heres an example calling someone fat is mean right so instead you could call them pleasently plump or maybe pudgy. but it still means they are overwieght so it has potential to offend either way.
