The New York Dynamite – S/T EP
Label: Unsigned
Released: 2006
Who?
The New York Dynamite (now known as Black Suit Youth) seems to be everything a punk band aims for. However, the band doesn’t play punk.
How Is It?
Playing a melodic form of alternative rock n’ roll with the occasional, well-executed gang choruses, (“We Are Lions”) some jangly bass solos, (“Generation RX”) and heart-stopping drumming, The New York Dynamite does everything except put the punk pieces together. This allows them a much more radio friendly sound, which could be their curse or gift. Vocalist Bryan Maher has a mildly deep voice rich in sincerity, but lacking in cheese. And with a lot more exposure, you might just see these guys singing a ballad in their latest, desert-themed music video. But this time, you won’t be ashamed to know all the words.
Recommended If You Like: Black Suit Youth, Ignite, being underappreciated, anything by Jack Black, the color black
