Reel Big Fish/Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer - Duet All Night Long
Released February 20th, 2007
Reignition Records
Who?
Beloved ska torchbearers Reel Big Fish and powerpop sweethearts Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer converge on six 80’s songs and cover them with the expected bubbly spin.
How Is It?
Plain and simple: If you dig either band, then you should be all over this release by now. Alternating between Reel Big Fish and Zolof providing the instrumental accompaniment, Aaron Barrett and Rachel Minton duet through covers of 80’s radio staples such as Madonna’s “Dress You Up” and Jackson/McCartney’s “Say Say Say”. The better envisioned cover of the six is of The Smiths’ “Ask”. Rachel’s girl-next-door croon and Aaron’s slick vocals make a perfect pair and they really shine through in the latter song. The only song that I couldn’t go back to is “Lyin’ Ass Bitch”. Though it’s a unique take on the reggae/altern-rock Fishbone, it gets a little grating despite a solid performance from the horn section. Although a very short EP, Duet All Night Long is great while it lasts and an exceptional blast from the past.
