don't know what to think... not as promising as I thought. Not as technical, but still good I guess. Sounds a little over processed, but eh, it's myspace. I need to hear more for a good opinion

like the song, but their producer did a horrible job mixing.
definitely different than i'd thought it'd be.. nowhere near as technical as thrillseeker. i still dig it though.

It's ok. I like the new Project 86 much more, but I was never a ABR fan.

This song is incredible. I definitely assumed they would mix stuff up and write some more straightforward songs in addition to their technical stuff. It's not like anything they're playing on this song is easy though either. 2763 plays in 22 mintues Central time (it may have been posted 12 Eastern time). But still that's a lot of plays. Jake is definitely utilizing a lot of different screams on this song as well, which I'm looking forward to throughout this CD. I kinda was hoping for better recording of his vocals. They just really sound like they do live. Overall, this song is br00tal.

isn't this the same singer as the one in Thrill Seeker?

I wish.

the record is still as technical. the other demo was very technical. myspace doesnt have full quality mp3's. once you get the real record and put it in your stereo im sure it will sound good. this band is really good.
LOVEEEE it...these dudes rule
Decent song but it seems to me as if in some spots the vocals are just thrown over the instrumental parts unlike Thrill Seeker where everything seemed to mesh. I don't Ill wait till the next song comes out before I make a better judgement.

Oh boy, another album full of generic metalcore.
The last album had a few good songs but it was so repetitive that the only thing worthwhile was some of the drumming.

Last time some kid went insane cause I gave this album an average 5 out of 10. It was pretty entertaining.

this new song is dope.
That review does not describe Thrill Seeker in any way. Probably the worst review I have ever seen.

It describes it perfectly: Generic Metalcore. Repetitive Songs. Unoriginal. Etc, etc.

Hmm, I totally didn't know they had a new vocalist...I was kind of surprised at the high-pitched scream in the beginning, and now I know why. Was this change ever mentioned? I vaguely remember hearing about it, but I may be imagining things. Anyway, I think the song still kicks ass, although the new vocalist does make it sound a little more like some other bands (Inhale Exhale comes to mind at times).

yeah i never knew about different vocalists... i always thought jake was the vocalist. I knew there was a bassist change recently, but that was it.

Josh is a hometown hero of mine, so of course I will hate the new vocalist since he is from somewhere that isn't PA I believe, just not the same band to me, and I feel the new vocals proove that, it sounds too much like a song off Haste the Day's last album, mixed with a few other Solid State bands, I don't understand why all these Solid State bands thrive to sound the same?

like every band on that label has some sort of repetitive scale in their songs, this sounds no different than other song by any other band on that label, I guess I expected them to keep the techy stuff going and not get so simple like they did.

Well it is.
I'll admit they have a pretty sweet drummer, but that's about it.

I don't agree. Its just an inaccurate depiction of a great album. Generic metalcore would be As I Lay Dying. Those are easy to follow songs. I'm not sure if I can think of any part in any song on Thrill Seeker that repeats itself, so the Repetitive songs...I'm just not following. Unoriginal? It doesnt get much more tech than this while remaining 'listenable'. The continuous changing of time signatures, insane drums, creative guitar riffs.

I agree I feel this new song is very generic and not up to their full potential, I would blame it on myspace quality, but that won't change the parts of the song that I heard. Some pretty simple stuff for these guys at least.

I might be deaf but I thought I heard the same guitar riff with the same key in that new song all throughout. Nothing special or techy about it.

i don't understand how people can think this is the same singer. jake has highs and lows. josh mantis had middle range and that was it. not to mention jake has a personality when he's on stage.

Solid State is a metal/hardcore label. Metal and hardcore songs repeat stuff. That goes for most music as well. If you want something thats not so repetitive, go listen to some grind. I will admit, Solid State is getting a little trigger happy signing these bands that arent that good (Cry Of The Afflicted & Inhale Exhale), but they still have signed some quality bands.
As for you saying this song sucks, but you dig old ABR, and the new ABR sucks now, you are stupid. It sounds exactly the same as Thrill Seeker, which was a great cd. There is a little difference in the vocals, but its not that noticable. You would get used to it after you listened to Messengers twice.
As for saying that some bands produce "generic" metalcore, all metalcore is generic. If you don't play generic metalcore, then you don't play metalcore. Its all about the same thing. I'm a sucker for metalcore bands, even if it all sounds really similar. I, of course, am talking about my own definition of metalcore; I know we all have different ways to define different genres and the bands in those genres.
All in all, I can't wait for Messengers, and I can't wait to see ABR, as SYNT, Chasing Victory, FASSW, and Life In Your Way, on Thursday.

There are a lot of great metalcore bands out there, at least trying or have tried to do something different or experiment with the genre, they just go over looked, I never said NEW ABR sucks, I just said I wasn't feeling this song as I believe it isn't to the band (as a whole, not just the vocals) true potential. I feel the new singer sucks yes, I liked Josh more, call me biased, impartial, stupid, whatever, but I am sure you also like a band with a previous member or a sports team because of a player that was on it as well. Everyone has.

i hear a lot of people using words like "generic" and "predictable" to describe these guys...i saw them the other week in orlando never before having been a fan...and let me tell you, the live show is nothing generic or predictable, i'd prefer to use the adjectives "face melting" and "ass kicking" to describe these guys....
i don't need to go to college to know how to rock...

I also like the old vocals better, but everything still sounds relatively the same. Of course there are differences but im just glad they aren't taking the approach that most bands are these days, and completely changing their sound. I'm getting tired of that.

I love the new song. I'm glad they finally released a song with the new vocalist. He sounds just as did as he did live.
Yea this song sounds way better on Purevolume it actually is really good just listen to You're little Suburbia after Truth of a Liar, big difference.

i'm digging the new record. i love how pissed fans get when their band's new album doesn't sound EXACTLY like their previous release. why would you want a band you like to release something that sounds the same every time? it always takes a few turns, but if you're an ABR fan, you'll get into the new stuff. quickly. regarding technical music: when it gets too tech, only the musicians can appreciate it. that's not fair to everyone else. while i love a technically sound and diverse album, i also appreciate something a little more straightforward from time to time.

i can't understand the sentiment most of you are expressing. i can honestly say that august burns red has been my favorite band for a long time, probably since the first time i listened to thrill seeker the whole way through. anyway, i don't understand how you guys can hate "new" august burns red so much, having only heard one song. I'll tell you it's not my favorite song on messengers (yes, i've heard it, the new bassist has been one of my best friends for years), but its still an absolutely brutal song. for everyone expressing how upset they are that abr isn't "techy" anymore, did you listen to the instrumental demo they put up around christmas time? if that's not technical enough for you, definitely go listen to some grind as suggested earlier. and trust me, there will be a lot more technical stuff on the record also.
and the people saying abr is generic and boring, you aren't paying close enough attention. jb writes the sickest breakdowns, not just in terms of size, but complexity and in terms of meshing the breakdown with the riff overtop of it and rest of the song.
and i don't care what anyone says, jake is a great vocalist, he's far more versatile than josh, a much greater range, and he's a killer guy too.
