what are some songs that have really stuck out as far as quality this year?
my picks:
"the quiet things that no one ever knows" - brand new
this song stuck out because i dont really care for brand new or deja entendu, but for some reason i really liek this one. a lot more intense than most of the mellowed out "deja".
poison the well, for - "meeting again for the first time" and "apathy is a cold body"
the former because it is just very well written, and i love the way it is delivered, quickly going back and forth between an ethereal, faded singing voice and intense screaming. the latter because the song starts slower, than builds to a reeally cool climax.
however, "meeting again" is def. my fave from the new cd. and i know alot of people are down on it, but "you come before you" may be one of the best hardcore records since glassjaw did EYEWTKAS
"but home is nowhere" -afi.
davey and his crew really put out an amazing record this year, my 2nd fave of the year. but this song is by far the best song of the cd. the lyrics hit home, the song is equally anthemic and brutal.
thrice gets nods for "silhoute" (sp?) and "the artist in the ambulance" . the title track is just great, well written, and the "late night, red light..." part just makes my heart jump every time. "silhoutte" is not only a awesomely heavy rock song, but a very poetic ballad. my favorite from the new cd.
and last, "televators" by the mars volta.
this was my favorite disc of the year so far. the whole thing is very cohesive, so its hard to pick one song that really stands out. but the slower paced "televators" is lyrically ingenious, and the chorus is just amazing.
but the year is young.....
