Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines
Seriously if you like your death metal to have mythology. Blast some Nile.

Nile is amazing! They're so heavy but at the same time the Egyptian mythology part of it is really cool me. There's a Black Metal band from Israel named Melechesh that does that same kind of thing (Although maybe even more than Nile) and I love it when they do it too.

That's a really tough one...
I'm torn between :
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Morbid Angel - Covenant
Autopsy - mental funeral
Incantation - onward to Golgotha
Grave - into the grave
...

Never have I heard dislike for Heartwork, never!
You have a point, however. Its always been a part of me searching for metal that mixes eloquence/melody and, for lack of better word, brutality as well as Heartwork did. Plus Bill Steer's solo on Carnal FOrge. I mean, FAWN. That shit is brilliant.

lets see, my favorites in specifics are
Death Metal: Cannibal Corpse - Bloodthirst/Kill
Progressive Death Metal: Augury - Concealed/Fragmentary Evidence
Technical Death Metal: Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles / Hour Of Penance - Paradogma / Immersed - In The Ire Of Creation / Trigger The Bloodshed - Degenerate
Melodic Death Metal: Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
Brutal Death Metal: Suffocation - Effigy Of The Forgotten / Vomit The Soul - Apostles Of Inexpression / Blasphemer - On The Inexistence Of God
so there they are, don't have a specific favorite since "Death Metal" kinda branches out

1.At The Gates- Slaughter of the Soul
2.In Flames-The Jester Race
Really enjoy the first two. I like the Jester Race, but I haven't given it much attention.
