I'm not going either, for the same reason. But I AM going to my Senior Class Party, which is a couple hours after graduation.

I didn't go to my prom. I wasn't really all about wearing a suit or tux and going to a dance that would have probably been lame anyway. Most of my friends didn't go, and the ones that did told me I didn't miss much. I did go down the shore for the weekend afterwards. That part is a must whether you go to the dance or not.

most guys are gonna probably tell you its not a big deal, because it really isnt. Its more for the girls to be honest, unless you like freak dancing in a crowded dance hall. Most guys probably just go to get some afterwards anyways

Our senior prom was pretty badass. Even the post party thrown by the school was kinda sweet. Hands down the best part is what you make of the weekend. We ended up going to Indiana and renting a 4 BR house for 22 people. It was amazing.

Well, as someone who didn't go to her junior prom (the prom at our school is a jr. prom), and did go to the Jr's prom in my senior year, i can tell you, it's not that bad. Prom is really just getting dressed up, listening to crappy music and dancing.

The only thing that could suck, is you will miss out on some things that everyone will be talking about. But so long as you go to the afterparty, you should be fine. I recomend that you do that.

I'm not too excited about mine, it's this weekend. Actually I'm somewhat dreading it. I had the chance to either A. go see Say Anything and Saves the Day. Or B. Go to Prom and then see Say Anything and Saves the Day the next night.
I went with B, the only reason I'm going is for the after prom party.
I don't think I would fell bad about not going, but I'd feel bad about everyone talking about the after party.

I guess it'll be fun?

prom is overrated and this'll be the first year i've even gone...17 year old girls make too big a deal out of shoving yourself into a cutesy dress and uncomfortable shoes just to stand around all night and act like you're having fun...

That sounds awesome, I wish people would do cool things after ours, we're only having a field party :-(

I skipped prom and went with some friend's to someone's beach house. I had a great time and didn't feel as if I missed much because I wasn't into the whole dance thing.

I went. It was boring as fuck. It is not that big of a deal either way. I like getting dressed up, though. Go with a slutty girl. That will DEFINITELY make it better.

A field party still sounds pretty awesome...ever since I've come to Iowa I've been dying to go to a barn party. One of these days I'll get to one.

I didnt go to mine, and I don't regret it. It's just not my type of thing at all, a few of my friends went but said I didn't miss out on anything.

i dont know. i think it depends how close you are with everybody. i know im going because i live in a small city and have been going to the same school my whole life with small classes, so i know everyone. im pretty sure everyone is leaving the area after we graduate so im looking at it as the last time i might see alot of them. i think society has put a material twist on what we look on as prom today with all the dresses limos etc. which kind of sucks because it shouldnt be like that.

I really didn't want to go all that much, but there's this girl who is friends with a bunch of my friends and apparently told them that she likes me. And that she only wanted to go to prom with me. So I told her I'd go as long as I was allowed to wear a top hat and bring a cane. Sweet.

I decided a long time ago that I'd skip prom and find a friend to go to a show with instead. It is also a lot cheaper than prom.

Is that the real reason or is it the no date bit (not bitchy, legit question)?

I doubt I'll be going to my prom either. There is so many better things you could be doing. So, I think you made the right choice.

I actually ended up doing that for my junior prom. I went to Skate and Surf fest, it was an awesome show and I had a blast.

I thought the same thing about prom, and my friends and I were even planning this huge anti-prom thing. I hated the idea of spending all that money for one stupid night, especially when it was all about the afterparty to everyone any. But I did end up going, and had I not, I would have regret it TREMENDOUSLY. It was so much fun, not because of the prom itself, but because I got to party with my friends that I'd spent the last 4 years of my life laughing/fighting with. I really think you should go, trust me.
