This thread is inspired by the recent influx of bands that don't need 3 guitars to pull of their sound. I'll go first:
Hawthorne Heights
Yes. And?
04/19/07, 07:07 PM

Nah. They need the three guitarists to look flashy and impressive- in other words, to try and hide the fact that they suck.

Relient K? (I know, they don't have it all the time)

Relient K is iffy because of all the issues that keep popping up and people learning new instruments.

I get what you're going for here, but the fact that three people in the band play guitar gives Matt T the opportunity to play more piano without losing the full sound. Also, the one dude plays banjo from time to time. Matt H is the only one of plays guitar all the time.

I agree somewhat, i've seen them a bunch of times but I think having three guitarists allows Shawn to focus more on singing especially during choruses.

yeah Parker Case (JamsionParker) plays 3rd guitar and keyboard for SA....i dont understand why he plays the guitar though..i cant even hear him as the 3rd...he needs to just do keyboards..or better yet go finish that IandtheUniverse album...or best.. reunite JamisonParker..
I dont think The Chariot or Maylene really need 3 guitarists.. but i like both bands...and i think the Chariots 3rd guitarist is to fill in the parts the other members cant play while they are spinning thier guitars and doing seizure kicks

yea they added 3 new members since fart damage, and the drummer (fat guy red hair) left, and recently joined the glass ocean (featuring keller and bieser formly of THE CHARIOT RAWR ROAR RAWR!)
oh and to add to this, this band does not need all 37 guitar players to be the Saosin rip off they are...

EX-Scarlet, Race the Sun and about 50 other bands making 40 guitar players and a dude that sounds like Saosin.

I liked a couple songs, to check them out live, then after their live show, I realized that wasn't my thing, and that was before they added all 34 new guys in the band, they aren't even the same band anymore since when I saw them so, but I doubt anything really has changed for them live, and I didn't like the new album either.

dude, what are you saying?!?!?! fear before kick ass!!!! i will admit though, their new album is that great, but it has some old fear before in there (drowning the old hag, lycanthropy). they are just trying new stuff. do you honestly want the same album twice?

I am talking about their ability to make these songs on these albums of theirs sound good live, which they fail at in my book.

Say Anything definitely doesn't.. (unless the new material will be that groundbreaking). I liked them better when there was only one other guitarist besides Max. Now he doesn't even play.

It is a double album, those one's are usually pretty big in "groundbreaking-ness" at least they should.
The Almost don't need 3, ever.

The number of CDs has absolutely nothing to do with the complexity of music that they contain.

Ok so Conditions totally sounds like Saosin. I think anyone who has listened to them will attest to that. But what you guys don't understand is although Conditions is a new band, many of their songs are not new. Most of these songs were written when they were members of FIAD, which wrote these songs around the same time Saosin was writing their stuff. So I wouldn't call them a rip-off of Saosin. They were two bands who wrote similar music.
