don't know whether this qualifies more as poetry or as a song. but what's really the difference between the two, right? this started out as some lyrics, but 1) it's a bit short, and 2) it reads with the same structure as that of a poem. so i decided to post it in the poetry forum. here you guys go. comment away.
-------
i'll sing away the sadness. help myself up off the ground. i'll hold onto my own hand. pretend like i have a choice, although there's no one else around.
america - the land of the free. so tell me mr. politician.. why is it that we own a slave-driven economy? you settle for letting shoes and lip gloss define the person you are. you use your handicaps as an excuse to continue failing to recognize the reasons why i hate you all.
another song slips down the drain. and to think you have the fucking nerve to try and remove the finger of blame/ from that comfortable spot it's found in front of your face/ but it's not budging, it has staked it's claim.
------
it's a lot different from anything i've ever written, but for some reason it explains what i need to say. not much complexity or depth. just... the truth. let me know what you think of it.
