Love the album artwork.
Love the fact that there are 9 new songs on here I've never heard before, plus what I assume is a re-recorded version of Hallelujah.
And, of course, love the negative attitude of most of the people who post on here. I'd have to ask the people who think the disc is going to be "astonishingly awful" if they've actually taken the time to hear either of the songs that have been released so far.

yes, and that's what led me to my original statement. coming from someone who enjoyed the first release
the artwork is ok.
After hearing misery business i am pretty excited for this album, plus the album hits a week before the official start of summer so it fits perfectly.

I don't mind the artwork. Not the worst out there.
I'm definitely looking forward to picking this one up.
i'm not into the artwork, but the first single sounds good. interested to hear the rest of this album.

That artwork is just funny. Reminds me of No Doubt.
I'm pretty sure this disc is going to be all over teenage girls' Beetles this summer, and I'm going to say it'll either be terrible or guilty pleasure territory for many.

I'm excited, the artwork is meh but whatever. I just wish I hadn't already heard the last song on the album because that's something that sort of defines an album for me - the opening and closing songs, so I prefer to not hear them until I hear the whole thing.

Judging from the post counts of some of the most negative comments so far, it looks as if perhaps the ap.net "regulars", who thankfully police the "scene" for us all, have decided to grace this post with their presence.
Whatever. Nothing's going to make me any less excited about this record.

The artwork is a lot better when it just said RIOT! in those big letters and nothing else. At least it has the band's name on there, now. I like Paramore..don't listen to them too terribly often, but they're definitely likable. Many many worse bands out there.
bertinthesuburb
04/20/07, 06:37 PM
I can see a competition in conjunction with the release of this album.
"How many times does the word riot appear on the front cover? To win a pin signed by the band please send your entries to that record label. Dont forget to include a stamped envelope"
But thats probably just me.
Or here in australia you'll probably get a great big sticker covering up half of the art with "BUY THIS AND RECEIVE A FREE! Fueled By Ramen sampler cd with panic! at the disco, the academy is, cobra starship, cute is what we aim for and fall out boy"
I think im the only one i know that thinks that all those bands should have a "If you like paramore" sticker on the front of their albums.

I'm not usually one to comment on album artwork but there is just something about this that is not going to attract anyone over the age of 16 if it's sitting on the shelves in a store. (By the way I don't think that there is anything wrong with people under the age of 16. I was once under the age of 16.) Although this might put to rest that Haley is planning on going solo since her pic is nowhere to be found.
Overall, I think a bit of simplicity would have helped it.
Maybe something like this:

That's the point. The word "Riot!" carries enough weight on its own without it having to be fully illustrated for us as well.
And I'm just a little older than 16 and I'll definitely be buying this album :)
I was referring to people who don't already know about Paramore walking into a music store and picking up this CD. If you already know about Paramore and maybe bought their first CD, they probably consider you a part of the "fanbase" (which = a minimum amount of CD's they can expect to sell. I would imagine that the size of the fanbase has a lot to do with the amount of money that someone is willing to invest in making a record). If a record's sales are to be considered a success they need to have people outside of their fanbase buying the record. That's one of the reasons for album artwork.

Yeah, you make some good points about branching out outside the existing fanbase...but I actually think the album artwork stands out in that regard - it's not like anything else currently on the shelves and I think it's distinctive and really fits well with what we've heard of the record so far...and whether you like it or not, I don't see it turning someone off so much that they'd be like "well, I loved that new song I heard on the radio...but I just can't buy this because I don't like the cover..."
And if it does only appeal to those 16 and under...well, they buy a lot of records...so that's not a bad audience to target.

as much as i love coming to ap for news about music, all the posts that occur in the news items are just always a bunch of people saying "i hate this fuckin band" or "i love this band" not really ever any discussions about the bands.
don't even know if this is still going to be the final cover (?) i think they are quite nice covers, whichever is chosen. looking forward to what kind of packaging it's in. gonna pre-order it soon.

...I actually think the album artwork stands out in that regard - it's not like anything else currently on the shelves
You're right. But I have to say, and I don't mean this in a mean way, that when I saw this cover I thought: "That is the ugliest album cover I have ever seen." Like I originally wrote, I don't normally comment on album cover art (to each his own, right?) but this one just really, struck me.
I don't see it turning someone off so much that they'd be like "well, I loved that new song I heard on the radio...but I just can't buy this because I don't like the cover..."
You might be surprised. I know plenty of people that turn their noses up at bands like Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is... Hellogoodbye, etc simply because they think that it's "teenage music." So if a band's image (as dictated by the album cover) represents "teen" or even "young teen" as I think this one does (reminds me of scribbling on my notebooks in junior high (before I started "designing" them)) it could definitely turn people off at the record store.
And if it does only appeal to those 16 and under...well, they buy a lot of records...so that's not a bad audience to target.
I agree. Plus the fans will grow with the band. (and you sell a lot of extra tickets to the parents that have to go to the shows with their kids).
btw I thought their first album cover (the empty couch) was great. It was very subtle and added a bit of mystery with the shadow.
And to whoever said that the threads only seem to be "I like this band" / "I hate this band" jump into the discussion anytime.

It reminds me of no doubt's album artwork for rock steady.
