Band wagon bunch they are...Last summer, the Hives and the Vines were the bands that were gonna save rock and roll, MTV played the hell out of their videos and dedicated specials to them on how they were gonna save the world....where are they now? Why isnt MTV playing the bands that saved rock and roll any more? Remember when the Donnas first came out...they were supposed to be the next big thing...MTV played that fucking video ever damn hour, not to mention an hour long special on the ENTIRE FUCKING ALBUM. Well, the Donnas popularity sorta died down, as well did their airplay, but then this band called Rooney shows up, the Beach Boys-esque band are promised to be the next big thing, yet again....I heard Blue Side every fucking time I turned on the damn TV...not to mention an hour long concert special....but why do I no longer hear the melodic keyboard and pussy sound of Rooney? Ah yes, they arent as hot as MTV had hoped....god I hate MTV...

mtv is just a bunch of dickheads who think they're cool. this is something that really pissed me off: for their vmas thing they nominated johnny cash for best video. ok, they played that video about 2 times and probably at like 3 am or something. they're just doing it to act like they care about and appreciate johnny cash when the truth is they don't give a shit. screw mtv.

I love MTV. I just can't get enough of Ja Rule, N Sync, GC, and P. Diddy.

The only two bands that they did a good piece on was thrice (3 fuckin years too late) and the decaparacidos (sp?) who are really good, but i ended up listening to them somewhere else anyway.

Well said........

I have digital cable so i get that extra "mtv hits" channel. Its really sad when there's rap on THREE channels at the same time. I hate rap....so much........or "hiphop" as they call it. i wonder who's gonna perform at the VMA's. I wonder who's gonna win a vma? Nobody good, only rappers. Im only watching it to see if AFI can pull out of the shadows for the MTV2 award. We all see how MTV LOVES Queens of the stone age, so they already have it wrapped up. They suck anyway, nothing good, they sound like everyone else.

Quit being a moron. You think it's possible for a band to have constant airplay when they haven't released anything new? So the only way a band is gonna keep getting airplay is if they pull what i like to call "the backstreet boys effect" by making singl after single on each album to stay on mtv and the airwaves a year or longer AFTER they album was released.

The only thing good on MTV these days is Spider-Man. They had some good shows like Daria (...right?) and Undergrads and Celebrity Deathmatch... good times. But alas, Spider-Man will soon meet it's fate like all other animated shows on MTV and the reality shows will stay up top.

I don't like MTV. They overplay videos and dedicate their shitty segments to rising bands the end up never rising. The Donnas sucked. Rooney sucks, I hate them. I've never seen more than 30 seconds of their video cause the band and the music seemed queer. Carson Daly sucks everyone's Dick. TRL is for bitches. The Real World is lame. Road Rules bites ass. Someone should shoot P. Diddy cause Making The Band blows. The only decent shows that I would watch out of boredom are The New Tom Green Show and... well that's it. Glad I got that out.

1) I hate to break it to all of you, but MTV isn't aiming for niche appeal. The only a mass-media outlet such as it can thrive is by catering to the mainstream. Last year's cash cow was garage rock, and those bands earned their spins accordingly. Nonetheless, MTV still mostly played pop and hip-hop then. Those genres (tricky word considering how broad each is) have been dominant for years and are what most want to see.

2) You Hear it First is intended to bring attention to bands who they suspect will break out. Many of these bands do not succeed, but that's because it's only a prediction based on the buzz a band is receiving. Sometimes they seem late on a band (Thrice being the oft-cited example), but that is only because that band is emerging from your scene. I bet most people here didn't know about Thrice before their first album, so don't act like you've known about them forever. To most, Thrice is a completely obscure band.

3) Stop bitching about MTV not playing "good" music. There is nothing that can qualitatively make on type of music better than another. There exists no hierarchy of genres. For example, I enjoy Alkaline Trio, but I don't think they are in Outkast's class.

In conclusion, if you don't like what you see, don't watch. MTV is music television, there needs to be no distress over the fact that they don't show videos of your favorite form of music. As long as the music you like is available to you, it should not matter what ancillary attention or marketing opportunities (which music videos are) it gains.

dudes, like the man said, if you don't like the channel, then don't watch it. there's mtv2 and fuse in most markets to serve as an alternative. plus you all have internet access so obviously you can download the videos you want to see off the net. i mean, some of you boogers blast bands you like for showing up on mtv (and selling out) while you blast mtv for not playing the videos of bands you like....it doesn't make much sense.
