The Casual - The Shakedown
Release Date: January 16, 2007
Record Label: Unsigned
Who Is It:
Five Nashville dudes that must like to dance, especially if you call your album The Shakedown and it's a rainbow of colors. Ok then, I expect some shaking.
How Is It:
It's certainly prototypical dance rock from afar and near, but with the twirling knobs of a perfectly-fitted producer, The Casual could really be a fun time. Here and now, The Casual's best abilities fall muted. It's not so much that it sounds contrived because it doesn't, but the overall arrangements and directions could really use a fresh squeeze of ideas. The only thing that feels forced is Jason Denton vocal's, strained into a pretend essence of raw and electronic grit. A couple of the tracks ("Nitelife" and "Dream Intruder") hold on to some interesting combos of melody and rhythms.
Jonezetta, The Killers, Hot Hot Heat, Let Go, Tyler Read
