I love how the parents organized the segregated proms.
"It's nothing racial"...well then what is it?

Yeah, I heard that on the news today. Considering it's the South, it doesn't surprise me all that much.

This happened a couple of years ago as well. Does no one remember that?
I thought that last story was supposed to be the Last.

hopefully, in a decade or so, they'll ban the kids from taking family members for their dates.

HeartyFuckingHar... first cousins are, in fact, able to marry in Jersey.
So, in your world they can't dance with em, but they can sure as hell fuck em.
"and many whites still attended their own private party a week earlier."
Klan meeting?
Yeah that's pretty bad, but you gotta consider this is just a little hick town in GA. They don't speak for the majority.

Hopefully, in a decade or so, all the grease, trash, and smog that's in New Jersey will cause it to sink to the sea.
...isnt segregation illegal?

...isnt segregation illegal?
Only if it's segregation by an entity that receive gov't funding. The proms mentioned in the article were thrown by the parents of the students, not by the school. Since the parents aren't an entity that receives gov't funding, they can throw a prom for only white people.

The South may have been legally segregated but Northern schools are the most "silently" segregated.

this was also by choice. the students themselves opted for separate proms, it wasnt forced. this year they just decided to have them together and everyone wanted it.

It's so hard to think that this happens. Yes, you can say that this is the south and blah blah, but come on it IS 2007. I mean, the thought that these things are happening in our day and age is absolutely mind blowing. Hearing stories like this in school was always crazy because it just felt like that happened so many years ago and that we've moved on as a country. I never thought I would actually be in college and hearing an actual school going through this.
