Mother is my favorite on the first half, and Comfortably Numb my favorite on the second half.

And both "In The Flesh" are just amazing.

I like the whole thing, but I'm actually a sucker for "The Trial". I love theatricality (word?)

As soon as I hit prestitigous, I'm breaking out the talking anus judge av hahaha...
Either that or the Iron Eagle thing from the "Goodbye Blue Sky" sequence.
That'd be pretty cool...

But anyway, I have no qualms expressing my love for this album. I know that Pink Floyd and such bands are supposed to be punk's mortal enemy, but I could really care less. The music is good, so I enjoy it.

I think that Comfortably Numb has two of the greatest guitar solos ever. The first one captures Pink's floating, drug-induced state of bliss/childhood reminiscence perfectly, and the second one/outro solo suits the whole transistion into his state of madness/mania very nicely.

Yeah hahaha..I'm kind of a nerd about this album. I used to listen to it all the time several years ago haha. Forgive the nerdiness? haha thanks.

and I like the trial, but more when im watching the ckip from the movie...because that song doesn't ahve any guitar or barely any drums.

Dont get me wrong, that is a really great song.

I love the fact that it's orchestral. It really adds to its nature.

Haha, as do I. I actually finished writing a full-length spoof of this beast some months ago haha. It took me roughly nine months. I could post a link, if anyone is interested....
(And FYI, it's lyrics only. I didn't do an actual recording thing haha. That would kill me...)

Anyway, yes, this is probably one of my favorite albums ever. I love the Trial to no end, how everything leads up to that point, and it just gets more theatrical and moodier as it progresses, until the riff from "Another Brick in the Wall" is reprised behind the judge's verdict, the chorus of vocals shouting "tear down the wall!!" and then the sound of the wall falling...and finally, the peaceful, lovely placidness of the closing song, Outside the Wall.

Wow...I think I'm going to go listen to this album now. I hanen't actually done so in some time now...

I'm on "Thin Ice," looks like I'm already ahead of you!!!

I love the verdict. The recurring theme riff and the judge's words themselves are so lumbering and intimidating.

Also: LOL at Worm saying Pink's actions fill him "with the urge to defecate" and the schoolmaster then yelling "go ahead judge, shit on him!" (not in the movie version)

Thin Ice, eh? Sorry for my stupidity here, but are you saying you fond the spoof already and are reading it...or you're writing your own spoof and up to that point...or...what? hahaha I'm slow...

Anyway, yes, the final verdict is huge.

definitely the theatrical version.

However, it's album version for everything else. The theatrical version of "Stop" annoys me to no end because the volume's ridiculously low as he's mumbling to himself in the bathroom stall and then all of a sudden The Trial starts at normal volume.

And yes, I do agree about "Stop" in the film. Plus, I like how the album version, at the end of "Waiting For the Worms" it's just "stop!" but the movie is "stoooooooooooooooooooooooooooppppp pppppp!!!!!!!" you know? haha yeah...but I still do prefer the movie version of Outside the Wall. Dark Side of the Moon is the best thing they ever created. It's incredible how well that album flows, it's like no other. It probably has number 1 spot at all time, and then The Wall, Wish You Were Here, and Meddle battle it out for the next three spots.

If you ever get the chance to buy or download the making of Dark Side, do it, it's an awesome video.

Word....they did a really great jobwith their animations...althought not entirely appealing, they were very unique.

Overall tho....I really liek the part in the movie when he is at the park...tryign to hold that stranger's hand, and even more so, when he puts the bullet on the tracks, and watches the faceless people pass by... its so awsome.

True.

Those are good parts as well. I also quite like the part where he's in the hotel pool during "the Thin Ice" and the water is running red, supposedly with blood. Pretty cool part.

And although I think it's been mentioned already, the trial scene is great. I love how it just builds up into the end, with the wall finally coming down, and then the utter beauty/calm that follows with "Outside the Wall."

Oh, and here's some of my over-analyzing:

When the children are picking up the bricks at the end, carrying them around, and placing them in the bins of their toy trucks, I always looked at that as being symbolic of them beginning to create/construct their own personal "walls" that will follow them later into life....

I like to sway to The Wall more because of it's length, and because it has more singing and lyrics...

Idk, its hard to decide.

SickOfStars
04/28/07, 10:10 AM
Dark Side of the Moon has just as many if not more redeeming qualities.

1. probably the most chill piece of music you'll ever listen to

2. supposedly more 'complex' music-wise (haven't really overanalyzed this yet)

3. band's worldwide breakthrough album

4. features more contribution from other members of the band (as opposed to Waters masturbating to the idea of himself as the 'tortured artist.')

oddly enough, I like Dark Side and The Wall more than any other Pink Floyd works, but neither of them contain my favorite Floyd song (that would go to 'Have a Cigar')

Brokenhill

The lyrical focus is why there are a lot of Floydians (my dad included) that are still a little wary of the wall. Pink Floyd wasn't really about lyrics. Yes, there'd be themes in their lyrics, but they were mostly about their musical content. The Wall was a pretty big shift to most fans of the day (though with the power of hindsight and being born after the whole debacle, I can see a slow progression towards more lyric-based music).

Brokenhill

The Trial is probably my favorite scene in that flick... I'm pretty much obsessed with Scarfe's art/animation (even though I'm pretty sure he just directed the animation)

He drew out the actual pictures. Then he handed them to a team of animators or whatever that put them into motion.

A couple years ago I said some things which were completely inappropriate, but have since then recognized fault/apologized to Togepi.

Since yes, I believe the Bible to be truth, I view homosexuality as a sin (but not as a "greater" sin or anything like that), and in certain circumstances the role of women is under the male. It's not what I think the Bible "thinks", it's what the Bible clearly states.

This is bullshit. You have never apologized for anything.

and anytime you're in a thread that homosexuality gets brought up, you go off about it. so no, i'm not "twisting words". the bible doesn't clearly state anything, which you'd know if you knew anything about your religion/the nature of reading a text.

I'm against religous organizations and them using whatever to influence others involuntarily, or politcs, etc.

I'm against the oppressing of any 1 type/group of people. I'm all for equal rights for all legal/authorized U.S. citizens.

You do realize organized religion (including the one you practice) is a social construct that was originated to lend validity to certain culture's morality, and has been used to solidify the status quo, perpetuating various inequities and maintaining hierarchy right?

The fact that you think (the judeo-christian bible is actually a very subjective thing with much interpretation) that it states that homosexuality is a sin (reading laviticus, it never explictly states that, simply that a man should not "lay" next to another. Does that delve into same sex relations, queer, transgendered people, actual intercourse, gender identity, etc.) and that women are to be subservient in certain situations and that, because you think it states that, it's right and the "word of god" is proof of what it continues to do and its purpose - to maintain western culture and is an integral cog in the social stratification process.

What I'm saying is, you accept an ideology of exclusion (Christians are right, those who go against its belief system are "deviant" and they are used as examples that the social reality of Christianity is right and that those going against it are wrong, those who don't accept god are wrong, etc. those adhering to other beliefs are wrong, etc. It's very exclusionary) and inequity.

It's very damaging. Religion is awful.

This record is a very important record in terms of progressive music. Honestly, the first time I heard "Hey You", I nearly pissed myself.
