welcome to bangkok

review:
amazing. i can now say i believe the hype about a live brand new show. jesse sounded dead on. the sound was incredible, one of the best (sound wise) ive ever heard from the electric factory. they had so much energy. jesse interaction with the crowd was minimal, however, this has come to be expected and it did'nt really take away from the overall performance. my favorite part of the set was the half where the played the new songs. they sounded amazing, and got a good reception for them, however it was evident that most people were there to hear older material. one of the better shows i have ever been to.

cons/lows:
- two words : Bro-Dudes. sweaty, drunk, shirtless/wife beater clad, handshakes between each song, drunk, huge, tuff guy jerkoffs who shouldnt be aloud in shows.
- watching bro dudes kick people from the side of the pit, then laugh with their friends about it, then being elbowed by one in the stomach.
- bro dudes trying their very bets to push me into the pit.
- moshing to me vs. maradonna...please, kill yourself.
- people body surfing to limo, a song about a girl being killed in a car crash.
- lack of your YFW songs .

pros/highs:
- relocating from behind the bro-dudes during sowing season and being able to enjoy the better part of the show.
- "this song is called 70x's7"..right before they started to play degausser.
- minimal little girls.
- 10/12 from TDAGARIOM.
- kevin devine dancing on stage with brand new, especially for degausser.
- handcuffs, limo, you wont know, welcome to bangkok.
- finale : every member of the tour jamming out on stage to bangkok, destryoing instruments, jumping into the crowd, smashing shit up, and having fun
- amazing sound.

final thoughts:
this is my personal reflection of the show. for the most part, i enjoyed it. i now also regard brand new as one of my favorite live bands (since tonight was my first time ever seeing them live). I'd recommend this tour but tonight was the last night of it. finally, to all the people who bitched about set list and reviews being submitted for every night of the tour : brand new is (if not thee) one of the most beloved bands on this website. they basically changed up their set list every night and people were interested in seeing what they were gonna play next. nobody is holding a gun to your head forcing you to read the posts. i hope this was somewhat helpful.

The show was so solid, Manchester Orchestra and Kevin Devine were fantastic openers. The cover song Brand New did was Oh Comely by Neutral Milk Hotel which was awesome to hear. The ending song of "Welcome To Bangkok" was seriously one of the best things I ever seen on a stage. Everyone up on the stage destoying the drums and just having fun. Awesome show

goddamn this show was awesome. your right he sounded dead on and the sound was really good quality. I thought one of the best parts of the show was when Kevin Devine broke a guitar string and his band went into a jam session. he thought of really good lyrics haha

the show was amazing! i really liked kevin devine as an opener and having jesse come out on stage and help with "holland, 1945" was pretty close to a religious experience for me. but i thought that jesse's voice sounded a little rough around the edges, very throaty and strained. which is understandable, of course, since tonight was one of the very last stops on the tour.

i'm glad they played "millstone" and "archers." it totally made up for the lack of "guernica." overall, an amazing show.

Honestly the best show I've ever been to. Best Brand New show, and the first time I've ever seen opening bands with THAT much energy. Archers = Awesome.

Very very glad they played alot of new stuff. And the Welcome to Bangkok ending was quite possibly the best ending I could ever ask for.

My only question....after seeing them DESTROY EVERYTHING, why did people chant for one more song? There was no way in hell they we're doing an encore.

The show was amazing no questions asked, But it sucks when you can't even enjoy the show because of retards pushing each other around during all the wrong songs. I really don't like the electric factory either and I know over the years the main complaint has always been the sound. The bass was waaaaay to heavy last night. But being able to watch people show mic stands through bass drums makes it all the better. Oh yeah, during welcome to bangkok someone was riding a random bike on stage, pretty cool. It was a great show

talk about people doing stuff at the wrong times, in NY people were crowd surfing all during Limosuine. Not the best song to corwd surf to.

What annoyed me the most about the New York show, and it sounds like you guys had your fair share of bros as well, is that Jesse didn't really talk much. And right before limousine, he gave this big speech how they felt like they had lost all there freinds after there break. And then they met colour revolt, mewithout you, manchester, and Kevin Devine. It was very, sad, and touching. But it was ruined by some brodude and his girl who screamed out "OMG JESSE, ILL BE YOUR FREIND"...

again, the doing of the bro-dudes who were right in front of me before i left. i didn't witness it, but a few of my friends who stayed behind witnessed it and told me it was started by the same assholes who made it unbearable for me to be around anymore. they were some real douches. ruined the whole first half for me. if its not evident enough, this REALLY frustrated me. haha

all of the bands were amazing! they played so well and really made for a good show. However, most of the people there were assholes. I saw two fights break out and im sure there were more where I wasnt standing, and the pushing during the set change before brand new even came on was just purely retarded. I hated how no one even moved during manchester or kevin d until cotton crush and then they were douches. I really think its just a philly thing, no offense to any cool people in philly but the comparison of crowds in philly to jersey crowds is just ridiculous.

also i dont think anyone mentioned the cover of the fresh prince of bel aire theme song. that was ridiculously sweet.

Last night was an awesome show, best show, I've been to, to date. I can say that there were alot of douche bags lol... but over all I didn't care I just tried to enjoy the show the best that I could. I was suprised by Manchester and Devine, they really put on a good show and probably expanded they're fan base alot more. When the cover of Neutral Milk Hotel came on I couldn't get the feel that they were a writting inspiration for jesse during the recording of The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. Everything was super cool, just stop trying to touch my mohawk between sets :)

Awesome show. All three bands were spot on, but there were way too many douchebags for me to be able to enjoy the show as much as I could have. Shirtless and wife beaters w/ backwards hats looking for nothing but a circle pit or a fight. How many people saw the dude with blood all over his face during Welcome to Bangcok? No lie, he tried to fight everybody.

i agree about the bass levels -- i was near the front for the opening bands and i could feel it in my teeth and throat. it was a little distracting. the "fresh prince" cover was hilarious, as was the bear (?) hat that jesse was wearing that sort of migrated around to different people. i agree about the crowd, too. i almost got into it with some drunk blonde woman who was moving around and being obnoxious. LAME.

im glad im not alone on my feelings about much of the crowd. Those guys were arrogant, meathead assholes who have no place to ruin the show for other people. i was behind them assholes for the whole half of the set, and it was terrible. they tryed to push everyone into the pit, kicked people, and were just being tuff guys. im glad i got out of there and didn't let it ruin the last half of the show. one guy actually came charging through the crowd screaming "oh my god, there's a fire." what a loser. here's to hoping bro dudes can find a frat party or something else to do next time a good show rolls through the city of brotherly love.

I was at the show last Sat. night in Baltimore MD and in Philly last night too.

In MD, they did not tear apart the drums, just knocked a whole bunch of shit over. It was an almost as intense ending. They also played less songs I felt in MD, and the opening bands were slightly better. And the NMH cover of Holland 1945 was almost religious, both times, but the horns/sound quality in general was 1080280 times better in MD then in PA, sorry Philly.

The other highlights for me in Philly were when Jesse called a song "By The Beatles" and went into his own music - me and a friend happened to talk about Brand New being 'our generations' Beatles a couple days ago, it was ironic. I also enjoyed singing along to Oh Comely with a bunch of 13-year old skanks looking at me like a god for knowing the words, but then I realized that the song is 8 years old or so, and it made me sad to think good music is so hard to come by, haha. I hope people also caught him (Jesse) call Brand New by "On The Car" or something similar. I'm willing to bet they're going to play under that name sooner or later - and I believe it to be a Counting Crows reference, but I'm not sure.

I'm done rambiling, later.

The sound quality was definately better in Baltimore. The setlist at Baltimore had more songs though. He didn't say a song was by the beatles he said "this is [insert song] and we're the Beatles"

Agreed. I loved the chemistry between all three bands on stage.

I thought the whole show was epic....especially the NMH covers (since brand new and nmh have always been my two favorite bands).

The brodudes (or whatever you guys call them) pretty much tried to kill my sister in the beginning. I've never actually seen people intentionally try to hurt someone like that at a show....ridic

Actually, the crowd in general was pretty ridiculous. I saw some guy get his jaw busted open and bleed all over about 3 people.

But other than that, amazing. I can't wait til the borgata show.

Worst fucking crowd i've ever experienced. Seriously, why was everyone so violent? What was the point of trying to start pushing everyone before brand new even got on the stage?

Speaking of the bro-dudes, I ended up having to protect 2 girls. One my girlfriend, and some poor small girl behind me who almost got punched in the face a couple times. I ended up being punched in the arm and hit multiple times.

When I saw Brand New last june at the TLA, the fans were typical. They pushed and maybe a mosh pit or two, but nothing like this. I saw kids coming out of the pit holding their heads with blood.

I just don't get it.

Highlights: Fresh Prince, NMH cover that only 1/2 the kids caught onto, Manchester Orchestra's set (it sucks being one of the like three people singing along), Deguasser.

Sucky parts: Crowd, Kevin Devine (I was generally underwhelmed - minus Cotton Crush), crowd, crowdsurfing during Limousine (?).
