Just curious, how many of you guys buy an album and then flip to the liner notes and take a look at the 'Thanks To...' section? In my past experience, a lot of times I've bought band's albums just because they were thanked by the previous band.

A good example: When I was new to this scene I got the Finch cd - What It Is To Burn. They thank a bunch of other bands in those liner notes. I proceeded to get ALL of the albums that I could get my hands on that Finch thanked in those liner notes. Anyone else do this? Anyone else get into a band just because they were thanked by another band you liked? Because of my Finch purchse, I wound up getting into Thrice, A Static Lullaby, Thursday, Starting Line (I was already into Taking Back Sunday)

This happened with other bands too. I always trusted the 'Thanks to...' part.

In this scene - bands are constantly acknowledging their friends. I think - in this age of ipods and digital music - a lot of that opportunity for new fans will be lost.

What do you think?

i like seeing how they structure their thank yous. you can learn some pretty interesting things from the way a person says thanks. i occasionally check out the bands in liner notes but i buy a lot of australian music and most of the time already know who they are and if i like them

I always read the thank yous and the general linernotes. I like knowing who did what on a CD. And sometimes I check out bands from the thank yous.

Yeah, i do. These days i know pretty much all of the bands listed anyways, but in the mid 90's, reading the band thank you's got me into a lot of punk bands like Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, etc.

I do read them, and it makes me liek the band a lot more for some reason if they thank the fans.

Haha, same here. I owe blink-182's Enema of the State (and their previous albums) liner notes a lot for introducing me to most of the punk bands I'm into today.

Man, i once read the liner thank you note to this one female gangsta rap album. One of the funniest things ever. The main song's chorus (or w/e they are in rap) was "Lick my neck, my back, my pussy and my crack" and the liner notes said "I'd like to thank God for letting me make such beautiful music, without my faith in him I'd be unable to do them".

This is one of the reasons why I buy physical copies of albums and not download.

The liner notes for Fenix TX 'Lechuza' got me into a BUNCH of bands too. Pretty much everyone they thanked.

I also like the way new CD booklets smell these days. I totally huff them.

Same here. I love reading the liner notes/thank you's actually, and often they're pretty funny, depending on the band. the Lawrence Arms a pretty good example of this.

unfortunately, i dont read the liner notes that often anymore. b/c usually when i buy a cd, i open it, put the disk in my cd player, and drive off.

I read thanks to see who thanked me.

And occasionally bands, but chances are, I already know the bands they rec, so that's kinda pointless to me.
