I posted this like a week and a half ago, I still get kinda sad when I think about it so.....:
My best friend in the world is moving to Albuquerque anytime between mid-October and Christmas. It's really assuring to know that she could be gone in any 2 month period of time. Her grandpa is dying and the grandma can't take care of him, so they move there, to Albuquerque, one of the most crime-filled cities in the US instead of moving them here, to a small little town with virtually no crime, further proving my point that her mom is a complete douchebag, to go along with the no guys in the house rule and the you can't date until you turn 15 rule. now i have anywhere from 2-4 months to spend as much time as possible with the girl that i trust with everything, and then she'll be gone. She told me on a Monday night, and I cried myself to sleep that night, and the next 2 nights, like a little girl, and her leaving is still a long way away....:(
Jerry, that really sucks...I know the feeling...I lost a best friend like that and I cried my eyes out...she'd didn't move away, but she left...cherish every moment left with her, and keep in touch after it's all done...things will only fall apart if you guys let them.
On another note, your avatar is kick ass. Even if Thrice did disappoint me at Warped.
damn jerry I am sure everything will work out it sucks big time but I'm sure things will work out in the end
That really sucks man. I'm only replying because I live in Albuquerque right now. It's an awful place to live.. not because it "has the most crime." There's just nothing to do here at all... Hopefully her parents won't like the desert and she'll be back with you in no time. If not, you will always still be able to talk to her one way or another and maybe she her from time to time. So think positively and hold strong.. you'll make it!

i don't personally know shit about albuquerque, i'm just going by what she has told me. she's told me she's seen gangs and shit walking around...there's none of that here, it's a tiny little tri-town area, with maybe 10,000 people. But thanks alot to all you guys, I forgot to mention the worst part is that I can't tell anyone because her mom doesn't want her to tell anyone because "its a small town and if word spreads, she could lose her job before she puts her 2 weeks notice in." so heinous. So anyways, I can't tell my friends, so I told you guys, because honestly, you're the next best thing. You'd listen, but I don't need to trust you with the secret. So thanks, its helped alot just to get that off my chest.
I'm not going to lie, this isn't the most safe city in the world.. lol. It sucks. But yeah, it really depends where they are moving. If they're moving to the rich zone (NE Heights), or around there, then they should be fine. Anyway, you might want to ask.
BTW, Albuquerque has an awesome punk scene. Good music.

maybe you can phone her often and such...and visit her or something maybe...I'm not allowed to call my gf...she's white therefore she's evil according to my parents.
Moving blows...I would know, I've moved 3 times (long distances each time). Leaving all your friends and shit is horrible. It must suck for you to be losing your best friend but imagine what its like for her...

I live in Albuquerque and my comments are:
1: This city is still very much a small to mid size parochial town; a town that wants to play
the big city and portray a major metropolis but is still very small minded. Many times,
college grads cannot get even a decent entry level job in the career force only to see
a person with similar or less qualifications get a job because of Lucky Sperm Club
membership-daddy is part owner of the firm; mommy is vice president of a local bank, etc.
2: The city does not have a strong and diverse economy. Whether anyone knows this or not,
this town is VERY dependent on federal dollars in the form of Kirtland Air Force Base, Sandia
Labs and private contractors who do work for the Pentagon-Honeywell, Applied Research
Associates and Northrop Grumann. Take away the base and all that spinoff activity goes
with it.
3: Lack of Accountability of Officials: Whenever the local police cause a lawsuit, the city
usually is found to be at fault. Albuquerque is self-insured so costs go up in the form
of city gross receipts taxes; service fees, etc. No one is ever fired and the circus just goes on.
No one need look any further than the 2005 Police Evidence Room scandal. The only ones
punished were the ones who blew the whistle.
4: Police Harrassment: The cops in this town are DICKS! They harrass or get in your face just
for laughing when they happen to be in the area, thinking you are laughing at them. A friend
of mine told me that they also hang out in the parking lot of adult video stores, trying to
entrap people in stings. Yet, REAL crime like domestic violence, assault/battery and
murder are very high according to the FBI.
In sum, Albuquerque sucks. I am trying to get a job in another city. My personal view is
that the US government should declare the place a nuclear or weapons proving ground;
start at the mountains with a squadron of bombers and blanket the city in napalm. If there is
a God, he should level this pesthole like Sodom.

I know how you feel. My best friends moved away for school and it really sucks.

I also am one of those who knows how you feel. One of my best friends, Tara, (who I also trust with everything) moved in August to Minnesota, from here: Hawaii. She has been my friend for years and then she was moving. It was because of her moms job.
My other best friend, I couldn't hang out with anymore and was sad when I was told of him unexpected move to California (which he has been back and forth from for awhile now). I told Tara that she shouldn't move too. A year later she has. She'll be back for Christmas though.
It does get better, just so you know. Just keep in contact a lot; I do. We call often and there are plans to visit each other when possible.
I know it sucks but if there is a real reason to why she's moving, it's probably a good one.
I moved from New Hampshire just before I turned 8 and now I know that if I didn't my mom wouldn't have had those last couple of years with her dad before he died.
It'll be okay in the end, and the move will mean something then too.
