View Full Version : Nightmares

Here's something that's been bugging me.

Over the past three days/nights, I've had about 5 or 6 nightmares. They're not recurring, nor are they similar in any way.

I've had a similar thing happen to me before, but it didn't just suddenly hit me like this has. Before it was like I'd start to have nightmares on the odd occasion, and they'd gradually become more frequent - that just kind of went away. But it's weird that all of a sudden I've had that many; that's at least or more than one a night.

Actually, I'm not sure what sort of response I'm looking for here. If anyone's had something like this happen to them, what did you do to fix it? I know that dreams and nightmares are meant to be our subconcious telling us something, but all the nightmares are so different, I have no idea what it means.

I dunno - it could be. I haven't got much to be stressed out about right now, so I'm not sure what it'd be to do with.

probably stress.
it also depends on what happens during the day too. your brain scrambles up everything that's happened during the day and mashes it around with your imagination to create craaazy shit. if you're watching scary shit or something's bothering you, it can be translated into REM sleep. thats when your brain is organizing it's self. sounds crazy, i know. but true. try clearing your head before you sleep-that might help. or thinking of something completely un-nightmareish, like reading a book.
hope that helped.

Off the top of my head, I don't think I'm really watching or doing that could be turned into a nightmare. The only one that really had to do with what I could be watching or listening to had the winner of The Biggest Loser, a radio show host, and Steve from Punchline in it, haha.

But I'll try and clear my head before I sleep tonight, and see if that helps at all - thanks for that.

I was wondering the same thing too. For the past couple months I haven't had a dream-free sleep. It's strange.

Have there been things you eat before you sleep?

When I was younger and had ice cream right before I went to bed, I never was able to sleep okay at night.

everyone is giving one moon cycles worth of dreams and then they reoccur every moon cycle, the same thirty and one dreams, if they turn to nightmares you have to elliminate them from the cycle or they progressivly get worser. One way to reverse the nightmares is to realise that your dreams however reoccuring are based on what happens to you before you fall asleep and are awake, if you have a good day your nightmares MIGHT go away.

I had nightmares during like a month and it went away like it came. Maybe it's because you don't sleep well ?

Well, I tried clearing my head and all that last night, just relaxed for awhile before I went to sleep, and I had another nightmare. If things continue, I might have to get a dreamcatcher. ;-)

From all the nightmares I've had, I probably could write songs and books about them - no joke! I try and remember them and write them or record things about them somewhere, kind of like I'm logging them; that doesn't happen with each dream/nightmare I have, as I do have a lot that I can recall. It's just now they're nightmares. Can't say I've ever had a falling one though, or at least not one that comes to mind.

I don't normally eat anything bad before I go to bed. I used to drink a lot of Coca Cola (which I try not to drink now) and I do still have a bit of trouble getting to sleep as it is, but it's kind of something I've taken as a norm now. So it really sucks when I get nightmares, because it makes it even harder to get back to sleep.

The moon cycles thing.. yeah I'm lost.

Kiddie nightmares - I had one that sticks out in my mind that the characters from Sesame Street were going to murder me, and I couldn't escape. Damn that Big Bird.

i hte those too, and i wake up all the time...even though this doesn't have to do with anything. I wouldn't know why you would be having nightmares if nothing hasn't happened

when i'm scared, or when i wake up at night after a nightmare i either pray (it sounds silly, but it helps me... it makes me feel safe) or i think of something that makes me feel happy, anything (most of the time i think about this anime that i liked when i was younger... it helps too...)

just think of something that makes you feel safe... and the more you're scared of getting nightmares, the worst it is, bc you'll probably end up having them... so don't be scared or thinking about it... they're not real (most of the time...lol)

I used to have these horrifying dreams a couple months ago almost every single night that would leave me waking up in a cold sweat and my heart pounding. I found out that it's because I used to have a snack before going to bed and apparently if you eat before falling into a deep sleep, you're bound to have terrible nightmares. Maybe thats it for you?
