You can hear 30 second clips of every song off of The Used (http://www.absolutepunk.net/theused)'s new album Lies for The Liars here (http://store.wbr.com/store/product.asp?upc=093624997832&type=music&mscssid=5QADVD322M049GUPH6F93MDW4FL 73GRA).

I'm pretty excited for this release now!
What. The. Fuck... Did they do to Pretty Handsome Awkward?
What. The. Fuck... Did they do to Pretty Handsome Awkward?
I'm wondering if that's just a part of the song we never heard.
All that was out before was clips.
On that note, I only listened to that and The Ripper.
Not going to spoil the album for myself with clips.

I can already tell, just from these 30 second clips that this album will be incredible... At least for me. I am a huge fan of Bert and his bizarre style of writing music and crafting what he has so far... I don't think this album is straying from anything that they were trying to accomplish. I can't wait for this album now. Sounds sick.

I hope the lyrics are better than the atrocity that was "Liar Liar".
I do have a very good feeling. The Ripper sounded badass, the single is great, and Pretty Handsome is awesome.
Edit: Again, stop taking the lyrics of Liar Liar so seriously. Jeez. It wasn't meant to be some deep song. It was awesome live.

See, I thought that too... But the lyrics in the section right at the start of the clip are identical to the end of the verse in the longest clip out there now...
We shall see, I guess.

it's not that we want a deep song. we just don't want something that came out of his ass.

I actually like Liar Liar quite a bit, i think the clip sounds amazing and it was great live. I'll agree that it could've done without some of the lame lyrics. But, the song itself sounds like it's going to be catchy as hell. I think it'll end up being a big hit, if released as a single.

I agree...why can't they just put the clips up on purevolume?
you might want to before you waste $10. i know that it was worth it for me. and this is coming from a fan of the used.
Sorry, but no. It wouldn't be "wasting" $10, seeing as how they are one of my top favorite bands, I like all the songs I've heard from it, live and studio versions.
Not to mention, no one can make a fair judgment on an album based on 30 second clips.
I download whole albums first, then if it's good, I buy them. But considering what I've heard so far, I will love this CD.
so overproduced it makes me sick. they can't pull this off live w/ one guitarist.

Wow, that's strange.
So I guess when I saw them live and the songs sounded great, that didn't happen!

THEy USED to be amazing...
I've heard unmastered versions of all the new songs and I have to say I must agree with you. They are a shell of what they used to be and that's a shame because the self-titled is still an all-time favorite of mine. I won't bitch and whine for the old sound back like most people but I really have no expectations after hearing what I've heard.

I like the Used...but I've NEVER heard a good live performance from the band.
This, just like their last album (possibly even more), is so overproduced that it lacks the emotion their first album had. From what I hear, it sounds like a pop record cloaked with some screaming.
R.I.P The Used. We barely knew thee.

The first album was made with raw emotion... But how long could they have kept that up with all the bands doing the same thing behind them? The same goes for Taking Back Sunday - everyone wishes they could've stayed "Tell All Your Friends", but they jumped to "Where You Want To Be" and "Louder Now". The genuity days in this genre are over.
That said, I think the direction bands like the Used and Taking Back Sunday are the appropriate way a band like them should go. Both of these bands are striving to keep their other fans while at the same time getting out of the stink that will most likely destroy them.
"Lies for the Liars" will be the Used's "Louder Now", where there is that jump between genuity and overproduction, but it won't necessarily hurt what the Used were capable of. I have high hopes for this album and, from the 30 seconds of each song that I've heard, I know that I'll like it... Fully aware that there won't be another self-titled.

I think it sounds pretty good.
You can't tell anything from 30 second clips though.
When I heard clips from Fall Out Boys FUCT back in the day, i thought that CD was going to be bad but it turned out prettyy damn solid.
im hoping for the same here.
handsome awkward and bird and the worm are both good songs so far.

i dont care how radio friendly it is, i care that the music is generic rather than having a ton of energy and intensity behind it like the self titled record.
and while my musical tastes have progressed since the fall of 01 when i first picked up on this band, i still can appreciate the fun of that first record and realize how far downhill they have gone. though im glad we have the fanboys in here to set us straight on one is good and what isnt haha

What the fuck....I waited 3 years for this. Every song sounds almost exactly like the rest except for a few. And what about them saying this would be their heaviest album? It's all electronic shit.
I am extremely disappointed with what I am hearing.
Liar, Liar, house on fire??? C'mon.

ahah it's funny how people are shitting on this album when all they've heard is 30 second clips. I thought Liar Liar was pretty good , Like everyone else , I don't like the lyrics all that much . but get over that. It's the used.. not every song's gotta be deep and serious. I can't wait for this fucking album.
liar liar has an amazing production, but the lyrics are just meh.

Atrocious - I don't know whether this is fan boy central or not, but I don't see how aside from 2-3 songs tops, anyone would even want to pre-order the disc having heard the clips. And believe you me, those 30 second clips are most certainly all i need to make a fair judgment

i'm not gonna waste my time listening to 30 second clips, i'll just wait till the entire album comes out to decide if i like it or not. so far though, the songs i've heard aren't bad. it's definitely a different sound for the used but it's not bad by any means. and to comment on the little debate about liar liar... i actually just heard it today, and it's a good listen; but how cheesy it is.

when they headlined warped tour in 2003, i had the luxury of watching their set on about 10 different occasions. this was right after their self-titled had come out of course.
to this day, i have never seen a better live show put on by a band. everyday it never got old watching them get on stage.
although, i would agree that everything i've seen from them since has pretty much blown my sack.
i miss 2003. bands were better back then.
edit: i really liked in love and death though.

I'm not sure how people responded to "In Love and Death" as the build for it's release began, but I could guess it was similar to this "argument" where people were upset over the production and the weak lyrics... The disc, although different from their glorified self-titled, didn't disappoint... It was toned down a ton from their first, but there were some great songs throughout it. I'm already pumped for songs like "Hospital" and "Paralyzed" from those 30 second clips... And those, combined with what "The Bird and the Worm" sound like with what clips I've heard of "Pretty Handsome Awkard"... Yeah, sounds typical of the direction the Used took after their first one and then some.
Call me a fan boy all you want after this, but you guys are still bitching over the fact that the Used strayed from the self-titled.

i'm actually excited. i think the used is wonderful live. i think a reason why some people like self-titled so much is because they want to be the first ones who listened to them, before mtv came along. that's pathetic. i've listened to them since they began and they're still my favorite band. sure, they're not perfect, but what band is? music is music, no matter who listens to it. stop being so ignorant. and this isn't to be mean.
A couple songs sound alright (The Ripper, Paralyzed) but most sound pretty bad and I hate this band more and more every time I hear any of that Liar, Liar song. They will never reproduce what they accomplished with S/T.

The only thing that I think the Used should be criticized for is the fact that they said they were trying to branch off from the "emo/screamo"genre and not actually doing... But then again we've got Panic! At the Disco saying that they aren't emo... So...
Anyway... Think of it like this - this album was inspired by My Chemical Romance. That alone should spark interest in the nay-sayers... After all, that's why Taking Back Sunday and Brand New blew up the way they did in the beginning (And I stress "in the beginning").

also, you're telling me that you can't make a fair judgment on clips yet you said "considering what i've heard so far, i will love this cd." make sense?
that's the same thing i said, except that i probably won't love it...based on what i've heard.
and once again, i am a fan of the used so i'm not trying to bash on them just for the hell of it.
