Ok, i'm in the mood for vocals like jerome's dream. The issue is, so far the only other band I've heard with that vocal style is Deadseraphim. I need more, anyone else know of any others?

I love Jerome's Dream, i'm just interested in some different viewpoints on it. And Deadseraphim is rather good as well. But I will go listen to 30 dollar bill.

I'm not sure if this is what you're asking for but take a listen and find out. The singer does some falsetto stuff.

Also check out www.myspace.com/cloacalkissband. Their vocalist is amazing.

Hell, I can barely get records or non-country/christian music cds in this area, I didn't know such a place existed where they sold music like that in stores.... is it the fabled... musicland? (Srsly, Michigan? what a random place)

Ah thats rough. Jersey does alright for itself, not so much in the vinyl department (ocassionally something, but nothing you can't find online for cheaper) but we have a good deal of decent local CD places.

haha. you're killing me here. I wish I could find them in stores or somewhere not on eBay, but sadly, thats about it for finding rare, out of print vinyl. I live in Ann Arbor, which is supposed to have such a great music scene and awesome music stores. I find that statement to be largely incorrect, unless you like the typical indie hipster bullshit, of which I don't. So you better get un-jealous of Michigan really quick. its not got much going for it.

oh, and also I got:

Usurp Synapse split 7" w/Emotion Zero (sorta bleh)
The Anasazi - "Calculating Components.." LP
Occam's Razor split 7" w/They Found My Naked Corpse Facedown in the Snow
Carrier (Golden Birds) - Heart and Arms LP (White!)
Portraits of Past - 010101 LP
Spirit of Versailles - In Line For Halos (blue)
L'antietam split 7" w/Furnace
End Of A Year split 7" w/Fire Team Charlie
Jenny Piccolo - Lowest Common Denominator 7" Pic Disc
The Saddest Landscape - All Is Apologized For...2xCD (discography)

ugh, i need to stop spending money.

its so good. but for some reason i love the split with Bleed so much, I think its the intense vocal style.

You heard their demo? Its got even more of that stuff. And their 2nd demo has a version of Journeyman where they switch vocalist roles. Them and ILM are the only two i can think of to do it, but POP is definitely the best at it. Cauterwailing, you do it by sorta vibrating liquid inside your throat? Its as close as I've been able to get, but I'm not as high-pitched and piercing at it as they were (But, i mean, who is?)

Nevuk
05/02/07, 04:03 PM
Oh, just a note on And Sometimes I, its not actually what I'm looking for. Its the same pitch but she makes her vocals in a different way, they'd be far higher than JD if pretty much any female used his same style. I do like it, but its a bit different. JD and DS have really clean sounding screams, it sounds like nothing is vibrating in their throats, unlike ASI, and this sound can only come from a falsetto scream. Hers is far closer to the POP standard screaming style, with a touch of cauterwail thrown in. She slips into it a few times on this demo, but for the vast majority of the time, its not the same technique.

Do females even have falsetto? Out of curiosity.

Sawtooth Grinnnnnn!!! Not like Jerome's Dream but still

as for record stores, one of the guys from DropDead (crust band) owns Armegendon Records in Providence.

Sawtooth Grin is closer. A lot like In/humanity, but still, its more in the neighbor hood of what i was looking for.

Why do bands like that always have to use such weird mics/vocal effects?

Nevuk
05/02/07, 04:44 PM
I think spirit of versailles is the closest i'm going to get, they use the same technique but different mics, i believe. Or they just stand closer to them. How i forgot them, don't ask.

There are some very JD vocal moments on El Minotaur's half of their split with Tunes For Bears To Dance To. If you can hunt down those tracks, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

which is funny because they don't do those vocals live.

but they did add another guitar player so their stuff is even better.

Tunes for bears to dance to sounds kind of odd, not at all like they used to on that split for some reason.
I really like the el minotaur part based on just the first part of the first song, it reminds me of a doc 1 era pg. 99

Oh, I am not at all dissapointed. The reason they don't do it live is fairly obvious though, one of the two of them doing them happens to be doing it wrong, and putting even more strain on the vocal cords than is necessary. If they er... talked about it or something they might be able to do, he is using all throat and no chest (It is possible to use your chest even on notes that high, just not entirely so). You can tell its wrong from just how clean it is and how he cracks up towards the end of their 1st track on their side. The second high screamer is doing it right, but because he is doing it the right way its not quite as high or clear. Of course, he could use a little more throat and get higher notes, but still retain some chest to not tear himself up. Yes, I would never do it the way they do it on record live however.

it depends. because early SOV had the Donald Duck vocals. But they were really only like that for the earliest releases of the bands catalog. At any rate, SOV was a great band.

I decided to listen to SoV about halfway through this thread, when it became apparent almost no one here had even heard of deadseraphim.
