Who?

Kids in the Way is a Christian hard rock band with post-hardcore (i.e. screaming) influences. Hello? Did everyone hit the “close” button at once? Forget all that Jesus force-feeding, the biblical references are obscure undertones at best. Don’t expect any “For God so loved the world…” either, these aren’t happy tunes.

How Is It?

Apparitions of Melody is way too refined. The strongest moments are when vocalist Dave Pelsue unleashes his voice from it’s deep, angsty bass and switches to high-pitched screams. One step forward, two steps back is pretty much the theme here. Take “Blind Behind The Wheel” for example. The strongest, most crazed yells can be heard here, but the lackluster, melodic vocals and redundant guitar riff almost make the song worthless. A harder and faster sound throughout would fit Pelsue much better than power ballads like “Apparitions of Melody” or the minimal snoozefest “This Could Be The Song That Will Change Your Heart.” More like the song that will make me change the CD (lol?). Yes, that was lame, but this is worse.

Ew. Actually this album has a few FFAF-esque tunes that are listenable (Safety In The Darkness). But the rest of the CD is forgettable. It is pretty obvious Christ-core too. Not as bad as The Almost though. Communion anyone? No thanks, no thanks.

I love this band.
This was an okay album, but my favorite album of theirs was "Safe From a Losing Fight."
I just LOVE Dave Pelsue's voice. He's good in the Aaron Pelsue Band too (he plays guitar and...of course, screams a bit)
I went to the church he goes to and saw him perform live. It was awesome, even tho he was singing all of Aaron Pelsue's songs (which are still amazing songs btw) and none of his own.
My fav song on this album was "This Could Be the Song that Could Change Your Heart" or something like tht. I havent listened to tht album in a while.
