PlayRadioPlay (http://www.absolutepunk.net/playradioplay)'s self-produced and self-recorded The Frequency EP has debuted at number 6 on Billboard's Electronica Chart (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/chart_display.jsp?g=Albums&f=Top+Electronic+Albums), 1 spot ahead of Dntel's new album.

speaking of which, the next person to buy a shirt from Hole & Corner (http://www.holeandcorner.co.uk) will receive a copy of the EP.

PRP doesn't really do anything for me. Can someone give me justification to why he's getting so big?

Kyo

yeah, i don't get it either.
the lyrics are worse than hellogoodbye's (dont get my wrong, i love hgb)
and i just don't seem to get into it...

I really enjoyed reading the interview with Dan that was up here a bit ago, though.
He seems like a good guy, so I'm happy for him.

I didn't realize Hellogoodbye-esque shitpop qualified as "electronica."

Kyo
05/05/07, 07:22 AM
Then how does PRP qualify as electronica?
At least it doesnt seem to fit my definition of electronica...

his lyrics may not be amazing, but they fit the music, and to me his music seems like a very fun type of music (like hgb)...

i thought the ep was horrible. it was boring and the songs went absolutely nowhere. It was amazing how annoying his voice got after just 2 or 3 songs. congrats to him anyways, i'm sure he's not a bad guy and that's great news for anyone.

Damn that quite disappointing for Playradioplay's cd to top Dntel's new album. The Jenny Lewis track is my favorite

Not all that surprising, considering labels and distribution of the 2. In LA, In Silverlake, Day of release... no Dntel could be found at one of the finer record stores.

I found ONE copy of Dntel's album (which is now mine) and no copies of PlayRadioPlay! :(

just leave him alone. if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it. he's doing what he loves and if you don't like it, just don't listen to it.

Didn't he say something about the full length being different or something like that? I thought I read that somewhere, correct me if I'm wrong.

My thoughts:

The PRP! EP disappointed me. Maybe I set my standards too high, but much like the Voxtrot full length, I saw potential completely flop. Nothing against the guy personally (I know you're reading this thread), it's just in comparison to all the demos and tracks that he has shared on his site over the last couple years, I was let down by the overall sound, not to mention the vocal range / quality seemed to be lacking.

Dntel's full length is a completely different story. "Dumb Luck" brings a unique effort to the electronic genre, and is backed and collaborated on with some amazing musicians. Listen to it from start to finish and tell me it's not worth the $10 price tag.

i love the ep! dan, you rock.

but i was kinda bummed after seeing those pictures of you signing all of the lyric sheets with neat ass pictures of animals, and when i got mine, all i got was a heart. i wanted a lion or something, geez.

ditto.

The only thing dissappointing about the EP is that it's mainly old material, but that doesn't change anything for me. I love all his stuff.

This kid has tons of talent. I favor him much more than the kid from The Secret Handshake. Being 17 and writing music like he does is amazing in its self. I imagine with age his lyrical talent will take shape as most writers do, but for now he gets two thumbs up from me.

Depeche Mode for life. lol
