alright, so i got a new compaq laptop for college. anyway, i'm trying to burn a copy of a cd for my friend but i'm having trouble. i have roxio software and i have ONE drive for cd, cd-writing, and dvd viewing. when i bring up the software it has two boxes, one for the original cd, and one for the new cd, and each spot reads 'please insert cd' or something like that. so when i insert the cd that i'm burning FROM, everything's fine, but it still says 'please insert cd' or whatever in the new cd spot. so i take out that cd and put in the cd-r and it says the same thing in the other spot. i know i'm not the brightest when it comes to this stuff and i probably didn't explain very well. but i would REALLY like some help here. thanks

Is it a music cd or a program?

make an image of the cd on your hard drive, then burn it onto the other one.

It does matter. Actually a music cd is a lot easier. All you have to do is rip the cd using windows media player, then burn the cd using the mp3's. It should be no problem.

burning cd's is pretty simple...

...matches or a lighter will work.

you dont need to rip the CD. just put the CD youre copying in the drive, and hit Copy, then when its done reading that CD, it will ask for the CD-R and you put that in. then it burns it.

Rip the songs from the cd that you want to burn, to your computer. Then put in the blank cd and burn the ripped wav files onto it.
