i'm too broke to join a gym right now, but i want to get in shape using body-weight exercises. does anyone have any experience with this type of training (i.e. different types of pushups, lunges, etc)?

I like to do push ups like this:
Put hands right next to your pectorals and have your arms running parallel with your body rather than perpindicular. I let my nose touch the ground.
Pull ups are a great exercise in strength training. Challenge yourself to do more and more every time you're doing them.
If you're a beginner there's no shame in doing squats or lunges with just your body weight. If you're doing something you don't typically do, your body is going to respond and strengthen itself. I would suggest getting some free weights because your legs will probably adapt to just your body weight fairly quickly.
It's a great idea to do body-weight exercises before you get to the gym so you have a solid foundation to begin with, and then you can start some serious lifting.

^^ pretty much what he said
bridges are great for your core i would also suggest those. getting a exercise ball (a decent one not one of the balloon ones like everlast are sometimes crappy) and you can do a ton of stuff with your bodyweight.

I have no interest in getting in shape, so I think I'll just drink more beer.

Id like to say my exercise right now is getting up to get a beer, but I moved my kegorator beside the couch when rearranging my place, now I wont be moving for the rest of the night.
Maybe in a few years Ill put some of these tips to good use.

download the p90x videos from a downloading place of your choice. this is one of the only video workouts that works and a lot of the routines don't require weights. word

Fuck if I went to Waterloo or Laurier I would have gained about 500 pounds, Mongolian Grill for Lunch, Campus Pizza for dinner and Front Row for beer and greasy food every night. I practically did that anyway.

dude i play that all day anyway
My wieght has fluxuated wildly in 20 pound shifts since Ive graduated. Initially I gaind 30 pounds then lost 20 and Ive been going back and forth since. Its crazy and frusterating.
I have a couple of light impact work out ideas that could work on days where you want to focus on cardio and let your muscles heal a little. Something a little different from what you were talking about but it might help.
A lot of guys refuse to do aerobics because its for girls but Ive been using this one kick boxing cardio tape and they give you a choice between a 20 minute workout and a 40. Also a seperate set of ab stuff fo 10. I cant remember the name of the tape because I dont have it on me right now but it will give you a good workout, so maybe look for a cheap aerobic, or kickboxing aerobic/cadio tape for a good light workout.
Riding the exercise bike for an hour everyday helped me lose 70 pounds in 9th grade, no joke. Since Ive only been riding anywhere from 20 minutes a day to 30 minutes every other day or whenever I can fit it in. Excercise bikes are a great lower body and cardio workout and its easy, you can do it and watch tv, drink some water, chill a little.

try pilates. (no homo)
it's seriously fucking hard, and you can break the workout up into certain body parts if you so wish.
umm some good ones i do are squat jumps, dips, pull ups, chinups, lunges, and close grip pushups.
