This is my first time posting a set list/review, as well as my first time seeing Brand New, and let me tell you for a crowd of what seemed liked a few hundred people, they gave one hell of a performance. I could have done without all the drunken frat assholes pushing everyone around but still worth the bruises. Yellowcard was amazing and the crowd was absolutely more into YC in the beginning. YC played a lot of songs from Ocean Avenue which was pretty sweet. Im not too sure of their setlist b/c I was pretty drunk and not too familiar with their newest stuff but i will try to figure out what they played from watching whatever video my friend has. But on to Brand New.
Tommy Gun
Jaws Theme
M vs M vs E
Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot
**At this point someone got hurt crowd surfing so i assume they slowed it down to calm the audience**
Play Crack the Sky
No Seat Belt Song
Sowing Season
Archers
Jesus
Degausser
You Wont Know
Bangkok with a bunch of people (not sure who) on stage slamming the shit out of the drum sets and Jesse yelling into his guitar.
The whole end performance of them gettin rowdy seemed to last almost 10 minutes because i have about 5 minutes worth of video from the end. Let me know if you want it posted
So after seeing them for the 1st time, I dont know how much longer I can go without seeing them live again so i decided im going to see them again in a few weeks in NJ.

and i think they slowed it down b/c jesse was really really not into the show until welcome to bangkok (and then he was only sort of into it)
i don't know, i really love brand new, but i was a little disappointed in this show after seeing their past tour w/ manchester and kevin devine

Jesse has a hard on for Kevin Devine. That's probably why he was so into that tour. That and they were headlining

Man, I'm so glad I don't go to college in central NY anymore. Bunch of drunken semi-redneck kids moshing to mid-tempo ballads. Anyways, no Yellowcard setlist? Oh, sorry, forgot. You HAVE to be drunk to go to shows at colleges these days....

Exactly the problem with this show. There were very few real fans there because it wasn't advertised anywhere, so it was mainly a bunch of drunk people who wanted to crowd surf and didn't know any songs.
Where did you go in central ny?

Ithaca. But, before you start, I NEVER gave a shit about the Cortaca Jug. I met a lot of good people up there, but would NEVER want to live up there. Ugh...

Brand New played for about an hour and fifteen minutes, Yellowcard played for an hour or so. I went with a bunch of people who weren't fans of Brand New heading in and they were incredibly disappointed but I thought they were fantastic.
And because the crowd was terrible I didn't get to enjoy Yellowcard's set too much but here's a set list. Also the two new songs Yellowcard played restored my interest in the band after not really caring for the past few years.
Breathing
Way away
Rough landing holly
Empty apartment
Fighting(new song)
Only one
D.O.M.H.
Twenty three
Light up the sky(new song)
Believe
Ocean avenue
Lights and Sounds

The crowd at Bamboozle for Yellowcard was awful, too. There were two girls behind me screaming for them to play Ocean Avenue nonstop, after every single song, and it really annoyed me. I left after they played Fighting because it got so bad.
I would have expected that they would have played at least one song from OFTK, maybe October Nights, at least. Regardless, it's still a good set list for the amount of time they had.

Hey guys seriously, if you go to a college show, you cant expect people to really know the band, especially someone like brand new. Saves the day played at my school like two weeks ago, and it was cool and all, but it was a "surprise" outdoor show for the last day of classes, so obviously all the kids that showed up just to see who it was gonna be werent that down for it.
all im saying is, if youre seeing a band in anything besides a relatively small club, realize what youre getting yourself into. seeing a band at warped or bamboozle or whatever isnt gonna be that cool no matter what.
ps. i feel like nobody talks about this here. but for all central nj people...how fucking wack is bamboozle compared to skate and surf? yeah i know this is totally off topic, but if youre not from nj, heres the deal...there are three companies that run shows in jersey for the most part... concerts east, excess db, and max cruise. and concerts east is by far the only reputable one, with excess db a distant second but its at least semi respectable. but ce and xsdb ran the old skate and surfs and did an awesome job of it, got a good mix of bands and organized the whole thing well. then all of a sudden max cruise steals the thunder from them and makes bamboozle ten times bigger than skate and surf ever was. only problem is, max cruise has no fucking clue what theyre doing
once again, its late and im drunk and way off topic i know, but anybody who is in a local band in central jersey or is familar with the max cruise people can attest to this, the people in that company are absolute dickheads and have no idea what theyre doing. it pisses me off.
pps. im sick of people on this site shitting on brand new shows and how they "dont care about their fans" or whatever. ive seen them three times since the TDAGARISM era began, and honestly, people are just being fucking retarted. jesse isnt all depressed and hating the world or anything like that, all he wants is to be able to do his thing and not have people talk about everything he does on a site like this.
perfect example...on the release day for the new cd they played at vintage vinyl in jersey. they played some songs and jesse had to tune up for a minute so he asked for any questions. somebody asked something about him having beef with kevin devine. he kinda laughed and asked where the rumor started, and somebody yells out "well, jason tate wrote and absolutepunk..." and jesse cuts him off right there and goes "oh, that makes sense." all the poor kid wants is for people to stop treating him like they do. he's just a dude trying to have fun making music, give him a break, stop talking about how hes betraying you every time you dont love a show he plays.
lets go nets.
