View Full Version : power outage...this is some crazy shit

This is fucking nuts. Yesterday at 4:00 or so, somewhere in New York a generator which runs all the power systems all the way up to Canada here and some other places in the US blew up or some shit and our power went off here at 4:10 yesterday afternoon. And it stayed out all night long until just now like 10 minutes ago. It was complete havoc in Toronto supposively last night. People stuck in elevators all over the city and the subway trains stopped and people couldn't get out because of the electronic doors.

This is quite humourous for me though, seeing as how I can look out the window and see people all over the place panicking. Its pretty nuts, but c'mon, no power for one day. That explains my abscence from the forum yesterday night and so. Same goes for Laura and Jerry i imagine. And probably some more.

The power still isn't back completely though. It's supposed to go on and off all day. So it could go out any second. Just thought i'd come on and let you all know.

Back to terror. lol j/k

But yeah, last night fucking sucked, I had to spend the night without electricity. No tv, no computer, no video games, no stereo etc. It's shit. Consider yourselves lucky.

Same goes for Laura probably, but not for Jerry. Jerry's area(Niagara, Erie and Orleans counties) had scattered outages because we obviously get power from something else than the power station no more than 10 miles from my house.

Haha yeah I guess so eh.

But I can still get into the forums when they're being worked on anyways. They never go down for me. So I still would've been able to post, but just had nobody to talk to. Heh.

By the way, I like the shit he did to these forums. I'm completely used to them now. Even though there are no real MAJOR changes. I like the red and I love how he incorporated it more into the site itself.

Lucky bastard. Heh.

Yeah that's cool. You are very lucky though. Laura's dad was probably out trying to calm the city down. (for anyone who doesn't know, he's a cop)

I think its pretty gay though how all the way here in Canada (and in other places like in South Carolina etc.) are all controlled by the same generating station in new york and run all through the same system. That need's to be fixed.

Can I just say that I was stuck in an elevator for three hours? Yes, of course, when the power decides to go out, Its when Andrea is in the fucking elevator.....They put on the generator at work and got me out, and power did not restore in Queens until 9:00 this morning...It was 97 degrees at the peak of the day yesterday, and about 300 degrees in my apartment...Fuckin A..

I hope everybody got home ok, and all is well...Brandon...Your power was out, too???? Wow...this shit is nationwide...I havent even been able to listen to the news...All I know is that NYC looks like it looked on September 11th...It was SCARY...

Wow, that really sucks Andrea. Anyways, im glad you're alright.

Yeap, my power just came back this morning as well. It was insane. Toronto was like a ghost town, barely anybody was on the streets and every single store, restaurant etc was completely empty. It was pretty nuts. People here were panicking.

I just heard on CNN this morning that they don't think power will be back on in Detroit until about late sunday. Now, that's insane.

This happened somewhere in 1965 as well. Except it was out for 6 days!!!

08/15/03, 07:39 AM
Awww, thanks Brandon..Im ok now :approve:

This also happened in 1977.....

The stores were still open by me...Like, the corner stores...Cant have proper drunken hobos without 40oz's available AT ALL TIMES!!!! Ha Ha... I am SO tired...I dont know how Ill make it through today here at work... People are still out on the East side.... Detroit will be out till SUNDAY??!! Thats fucking insane..Poor Detroitians...:(

I got my power back about 5 hours ago at 5:17 am. I was at my mom's office when the power went off so they told us to evacuate the building then my mom and I spent 2 hours walking home with thousands of other people of the 59th street bridge.

It was fun. I actually got to see the stars and talked to my mom for a few hours before hitting the sack. I had all my lamps and electrical crapp turned on even though there was no power so when it did come back on, I was awakened by lights and loud noises.

Oh well.

It wasn't that much like 911. At least when it came to the people's general mood. A lot of people who couldn't get home just bought beers and hung out. I went skateboarding in the dark with a flashlight. It was pretty fun.

That was one the better days of the summer so far.

I was playing badminton in the yard when my sister told us that the power went off. We brought out the board/card games and played on the patio while listening to the radio for news. My parents came home and we took out the gas burner to cook Ramen noodles. We found that a group of wasps inhibited a crack between bricks, so my father grabbed a badminton racket and bug spray and started swatting and spraying. He looked like he was 10 years old running around. We sealed the crack and my brother and I swatted the drifting wasps when my father said that his back hurt.

We played cards until we couldn't see anything in the darkness. We put up our feet on the deck railing and looked up at the stars. We sat there staring at the big dipper and listening to the radio (Broken Social Scene's Stars and Sons came on, rather fitting for the evening) until we started getting mosquito bites. We rummaged through our belongings and found glow sticks, flashlights, and candles to get around the house. We went to sleep and the lights were back on at 4:00am.

No one was panicking, most of our neighbours were outside barbequing, relaxing on their patio decks and staring at the constellations.

Ya same here, it's just funny seeing how both nations are blaming each other on where the root of the problem started...we should just blame it on Mexico...reduce the tension between Canada and the US that way.

Yeah, the power outtage was a lil crazy here in Jersey too. Not as bad as NY though, although my dad had to go back to work at like 4:30 as soon as he just got home (he's a state trooper). I guess there were some people stuck in the subway's n what not, even though jersey has like .. 4 of them or something like that. The good thing was that tolls on the parkway were free, and we ended up driving down to my friend's shore house. We were hanging out in his boat in the backyard and I was just staring at the sky because it looked so awesome. I think maybe from the lack of lights from NY it looked better, but it was definitely awesome..

I dont think anything blew up in New York from what I heard...I heard lightning struck something in Canada which caused the blackout which might just be hearsay...I live 20 minutes from New York city so obviously I had no power...but I can forgive the blackout if it was Canadas fault...but I will never forgive them for Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan.

Seeing all of those thousands of people in NYC was crazy and scary. We were driving to Ohio when it happened and we got to a hotel at like 1 or so and we had to use this one little push down light (the ones they sell on tv) to go through the dark halls and our room. Then we woke up and the power was on again so we went to cedar point.
