Man, I hope I'm not the only one here who still sorta digs this shit haha.

But really, I just listened to one of my AC/DC albums (Blow Up Your Video) the other day, and it was the first time I'd actually listened to these guys in almost three years. So it was pretty cool, a little refreshing, too, I guess.

So yeah...maybe it's just me, but I can see alot of people not liking them (and I wouldn't blame you) but I still enjoy their music in the way I enjoy a radio pop song now and then, I guess you could say. Dumb fun.

You should add a poll to see whether thier original or newer singer is preferred.

CellarGhosts

Good idea, but I'm pretty sure that the general opinion would be in favor of Bon Scott, as he was the original singer (not counting that Dave Evans guy), and his lyrics were better than Brian Johnsons'.

But I do like both singers voices, even though alot of people seem to not like Brian's, espically after it started getting more "shrieky" as their albums progressed.

Blow Up Your Video is a great album so is Highway To Hell, Back In Black and Who Made Who and I like them despite them being a bit on the obvious side just because as you said they are fun to listen to.

I never got into these guys much, they had that.... every song sounds the same thing going for them...

but I will admit that thier live cd...is probably one of the best live albums to date...as far as quality and the amount of "hit" songs

Yep, those are all great. I feel their albums Flick Of the Swtich, Blow Up Your Video and Powerage are some of the most underrated albums ever. And, incase my usertitle didn't give it away, I love the song/comp. Who Made Who. Nice collection of previous songs of theirs, as well as the three new ones. Plus, I actually came to love that movie (Maximum Overdrive), despite it being pretty bad, and all that.

I see what you mean, their songs all do tend to sound pretty similar...but oh well, that sort of thing doesn't really bother me too much in a band, so long as the music is killer (see: the Lawrence Arms. Amazing band, one of my faves, yet their songs to tend to sound the same at moments)

Anyway, yes, that live album is really good, too. I got the "Donnington" DVD several years ago, and it was really cool as well.

Haha yep.

Their live albums is really cool. The DVD is pretty sweet too.

btw,
Your new avatar/usertitle pwns. I remember I used to watch that show religiously as a kid...my favorite episode was that Halloween special where they were on that scavanger hunt, and the story was Sleepy Hollow. In fact, I still have that one on VHS haha.

Haha, yeah, I see. I can imagine they're pretty big down there, for obvious reasons. And I know, alot of people dont really seem to dig 'em anymore, but I think they're great fun to listen to. Plus, I feel they're a little inimitable. I mean, look what happened with the Darkness and Jet haha. Although I don't feel those bands are terrible, I do think they're really gimmicky.

Lyrics are too high up in priorities in terms of music tatse for me to get along with bands like this.
Haha yeah, I'd imagine you wouldn't dig this band, knowing your general tastes in music. Im beginning to think though Im the only AC/DC fan on AP haha. but eh its cool.

But I am little confused by your opinion here...the way I interpret it, you're saying is that you cant get into a band who writes about rock music/writes about playing rock music, and all that. But Im not sure...Im a little slow haha.

bands like that make me want to kill somebody.

The only band I'll let get away with it is Led Zeppelin, because it was only one song and that song is great.

The one thing I'll always remember about AC/DC is this guy who I used to go to high school with. He had a mullet, worked at a Dollar General, and praised AC/DC everyday. He even (badly) sung AC/DC songs for class projects.

Haha, good god...but see, that's part of the reason I think AC/DC get a bad rap alot of the time is that a ton of their fans are or were like that guy. Of course, Im sure it also has to do with their limited songwriting abilities and lyrical stance, but I still find their music to be just really fun.
But man, a mulleted high schooler who works at the Dollar General and sings AC/DC songs for class projects..what kind of class projects are we talking about here? haha...cant imagine.

not to mention "i've got big balls" (pretty sure that's it, something close to that) has got to be one of the best song titles ever.

Yep, I regard as Back In Black as something of a classic. And I think it's just called "Big Balls" but that song is classic. funny stuff.

hahaha, I dont see how you could really stand that. I really like them and all, but constant exposure to them every single day? Jesus...
Which reminds me though that every time I go to my local Guitar Center, there's some guy there playing some Nickelback CD all the time.

I'm guessing it was on an episode of SNL? haha probably...

Hmmm...

The easy thing to do would be what everyone else does, and get Back In Black or Highway to Hell.
But it depends, I guess.

If you want more raw, bluesy stuff, I suggest either Highway to Hell or Powerage from the Bon Scott era. If you want something thats still bluesy soudning, yet with stronger pop hooks, check out either Blow Up Your Video or Who Made Who from the Brian Johnson era.

I guess it also depends on which singer you prefer...
so yeah, check out those, I guess. good stuff.

Kind of the same here, in the sense that AC/DC are always gonna have a spcial place with me, as they were the first real hard rock band I got into. Same goes for GNR more or less too.

And yeah, the live shows look great. I've got the Donninton DVD, and its real fun to watch now and then.

Yeah, they've essentially written the same album over and over again, but you've got a point. I've just got a place for them since whether or not they're well-liked at all, or what have you, they're the reason I started getting heavily into music, starting bands, and writing music at a young age.

Which is the oldest, dorkiest story in the book but that's how it was, ha. Of course my tastes have changed and evolved since then, but that's where it started for me, so I've still held on to them.

My biggest mistake there? AC/DC are fun. Kansas are boring except for one song.

kiddingggg

Seriously though? Every classic rock junkie I know loves Kansas as well as AC/DC. Neither band is anything alike but that hasn't stopped them from ending up on a lot of playlists together. I don't know. I used to like Kansas but not so much anymore. AC/DC were the reason I ever wanted to (seriously) play guitar or start a band though so I've held onto them.
