View Full Version : Ryan Sinn No Longer with AVA

Jason Tate
05/15/07, 01:23 AM
Ryan Sinn has left (http://armyofangels.com) Angels and Airwaves (http://www.absolutepunk.net/angelsandairwaves).
Music to me has always been a very very dear thing. An outlet of creation, frustration, desire, love, pain, and expression of all kind. It's art. It's an extension of the individual making it. It's something that I feel you should do your best at. You should practice and push yourself to always do better than you are. It's the only way I can communicate to myself and learn more about who I am, or who I really am underneath all the distractions and fabrications of who we think we are.

Individualism is also something I take to heart. I've never really understood the need to belong to something so bad that changing who you are becomes unimportant. The desire to be part of the herd doesn't make sense to me. Being who you are and not who someone else wants you to be can take a lot courage, although it seems rediculous that it should. it should be first nature. To just be who you are. Love what you Love and love that you are different, in your own unique ways

With that being said, and without me lamenting on that for paragraph after paragraph as i will do when philosophies are brought up. And sinse for reasons unknown to me, the band nor their management have decided not to inform any of you anything beyond what contribute to their success, i have come to say goodbye.

I recieved a phone call the evening of April 19th that concluded my relationship with Angels And Airwaves. I could go into an entire novel about my opinions of the whole matter and why I was given the axe, but to me, throwing dirt just seems desperate and tabloidial.

All I'll say as to why I was kicked out, the reasons I was given weren't at all honest, and severely hippocritical to the point of abhorrent disgust.

I've gotten wind of a few of the rumors floating around the virtual lifesource, and I'll say that I would never leave a band because of a clash of ideas, or control. To me a band is a clash of ideas and control. How can you push your artwork in a band to be better withouth having clashings of ideas and control?

But that doesn't really matter, none of it does. What matters to me now is freedom. Freedom to express myself and the freedom to be exactly who I am.

As for the fanclub, I tried to shape this place up, I'm sorry that none of the ideas you and I had were ever implemented. Maybe someday they will. I hope for all of you who paid your money that they use some of them.

Some of you here have a good sense about what this fan club really is, and the rest of you have been really awesome about taking it upon yourselves to improve things here. If any of you want to spend an additional $30 for nothing, email me and I'll give you an address to send a check

i appologise that it's been near a month sinse this went down and you've all been in the dark as rumors have made their rounds. But perhaps following a message blindly and praising the meaning of do as I say not as I do is the exclamation point of the issue.

See you again somewhere, sometime

Ryan Sinn

I listened to AvA tonight for the first time in months. I could probably enjoy the music a little bit more if I didn't believe all of these horrible things I've heard about Tom. That's all I can think about when I listen to it.

ooo man, things arent looking good for AvA. This makes me sad cause I was looking forward to anotehr album and this movie that was supposed to be released. I wonder what will happen with that. Im sure Tom kicked him out, but I wont bad mouth him because I still got love for the guy even with his HUGE ego trip. Maybe the band will totally break up and blink 182 will exist again in the distant future??

as of now, i honestly hope blink doesn't ever get back together. the music might be ok, but two of the members would be miserable in the end because of how egocentric tom is. im almost to the breaking point of never supporting tom again. i've went on this "new musical journey" long enough with him to realize he's a complete dick. sure, there is no evidence that tom actually kicked the guy out, but lets face it, this band is tom's, and nobody else's.

05/15/07, 03:17 AM
i love how the guy writes this overly contrived response which he obviously spent hours on, and then proceeds to spell "sinse" twice.

Can people in bands stop with all the drama they infuse in their writing and just say, "i was kicked out of the band, "insert name here" is the reason." We don't need to hear the same crap about what they take to heart and what music means to them.

Ugh, I hate when people try to sound so meaningful and deep.

Then they spell things "appologise" and "sinse" and it becomes hard to take them seriously.

This band is so damn pretentious all around.

Tom has got some serious issues. He will continue to have problems working with any other musicians. He should just make music on his own and hire studio guys to play on tour. Then it is just about the money and all the ego bullshit can be put aside. Not that I would buy into any of it, though. +44 is a much better deal in my eyes.

It doesn't really matter. This is a 1 person band with back-up players. Tom is the only one that matters. Many people do this once the band that brought them to fame has broken up:

Dave Grohl - Foo Fighters

Bob Mould - Sugar (after break up of Husker Du)

This is nothing new.

No, no. It DOES make us smarter.

Actually, it would be easier to ignore if he weren't trying to sound incredibly intelligent in what he is saying, only to make junior high spelling mistakes.

When you purposely try to come off as intelligent and pretentious, you're going to get called out on things like that.

Agreed. Spelling and grammar are skills that don't necessarily make one "smarter," it just makes a person sound (or in this case, read) smarter. Learning how to spell or write correctly isn't at all difficult; I haven't learned a "new" grammatical rule since 5th grade.

I personally don't think that's the case. I think he was trying to give a valid response to this whole situation, and saying goodbye with some class, rather than ripping apart Tom and the rest of the crew (Something Tom would have done if he was told he was no longer in the band for unclear reasons). I think fans would appreciate this more than us. Some people naturally go on and on when they type out things like this. I think he tried to explain the best he could. Being told you are no longer in the band is like a divorce, and it's hard sometimes.

I disagree with your uses of pretentious. I think you were implying in your first post that he was pretentious because he couldn't spell. Didn't get that. And then here...My only response is that I recognize that I can't support this directly from the dictionary definition - claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit, especially when unjustified, ostentatious - but it's not really something you try to come off as. To me, the points where you can try to come off as demanding a position of merit are rather limited. Someone is pretentious, but pretentiousness isn't a style; it's more of a pattern of actions.

I don't think the guy is pretentious at all. He actually wasn't conceited at all in what he wrote...showy? Maybe. But not as much as people such as Elisa from Cobra Starship, and no one accuses them of pretense. Yeah, he doesn't look like he passed fourth grade English. But I don't think it says anything about him other than that spell-checkers were created for people like him.

Come on man, the guy went on a rant about individualism. I agree with the kid who was talking about being able to write well. You are right; it does not make you any smarter. However, in the same token you should take the time to read over what you wrote and correct obvious mistakes if you want to come off as serious. Especially since this was a pretty "important" letter he wrote. It was his goodbye; I figured he would want to come off as professional. And yes in order to do so one needs to spell correctly. I dunno you are right it doesn't really matter, but it was hard to take him seriously sinse he was spelling rideculous words wrong.

05/15/07, 09:12 AM
im guessng he got sick of being at toms house 24/7 since thats the only way tom will ever record anything anyways...plus, i dont get it, why is it that according to tom the "best song he ever wrote" was written for a compilation record??? so does that mean the other 10 songs he spent over a year on for the record simply are crap now?? but wasnt he talking them up a storm before the record was even out anyways?? idk....

i NEVER want to see blink back again, cause tom is wayyyyy different then he was before...and that would destroy whatever qualities blink ever had....

plus, +44 is simply wayy better in every aspect of the game anyways. they may have taken a while longer to make their debut record, but atleast they dont have to kick a member out of the band with only one album out and then cover it up as something "god spoke to them about during sleep one night" as well probly hear from tom soon..

and oh yeah, +44 IS making a new album soon, imagine that...and they dont need to be cocky and say its the best music theyve ever written that will change humanity...cause guess what tom?? the only thing your music did, was waste a bunch of blank cds and album cases that could have been used to produce more +44 records...

im not trying to totally rip on tom here (yes i am) but isnt it obvious where this band is going?

i've spent the past year defending Tom and thinking that maybe he isn't as fucked up as everyone says he is now. I'm rapidly losing support. I think AVA is some damn good music but they're pushing me into the closet with how much i want to show my support for this band. You can only ignore so many of Tom's new short-comings for so long before it dawns on you that maybe he's really lost his mind...

yeah seriously...

lets see here...travis owns famous stars and straps and that company is only getting bigger by the day, and since he is always in the studio with rappers or doing drums for some bands abum i gurantee you he is NOT hurting for more money either..like all we (the public) ever see of him is with a few rappers and +44 and famous and stuff...but hes got soo many more outlets then that.

mark produces constantly on his time off and producing with mark hoppus cant be cheap...thats a no brainer..he also does guest vocals on tons of bands albums...and since he sold his part of atticus and macbeth, im pretty sure he sold his part right when they were extremely famous and stuff, so im sure hes also rich from that, and the fact is, think of how much hes made off of blink..hes not hurting at all either..

toms rich too, hes even cocky about it...he admitted it in an interview..so i know that blink wouldnt come back for money purposes..

i dont want to see blink back, ill say that again...i dont..i loved blink 182 when tom was completely talking all the time about how gay he was....now, hes obsessed with war and it shows in the atticus and macbeth lines..and he only wears black (johny cash rippoff) so yeah..hes annoying.

I loved the direction that Blink was going in with their last album. I think it was about time for them to abandon the immature jokes and release something that reflected their age. As much as I love blink still to this day, it's a shame Tom let his ego and maniacal rock star visions get the best of him. He's completely out of his gourde, and is on some crusade to make his band the music world's own second coming of Christ.

I haven't even listened to AvA since I bought the album last May, and really, I don't want to. All I can think of the whole time is Tom's attitude, and it just leaves me feeling disillusioned.

ooo man, things arent looking good for AvA.

I am completely indifferent towards AvA. Their music is a bloated, overindulgent vehicle for Tom DeLonge to stroke his ever-expanding ego. I'm all for growing as a musician, becoming a better songwriter, etc. But when you don't have the actual ability or talent to back up the "growth," it doesn't work. If Tom still wrote great 3 min. pop-punk songs, or even more-expansive rock tracks with strong hooks, I might be a fan. But until the ability/songwriting matches the vision, I won't like AvA.
