Right now...it's really a toss-up.

The Yankees have a sad bullpen.
The Red Sox...they're the Red Sox.
Kansas City/Chicago/Minnesota...sorry.
Seattle just doesn't seem like they have enough to go all the way.
Oakland either.

Atlanta has poor pitching, but one hell of an offense.
Philadelphia...they're my pick right now.
Florida...could surprise but I just don't see it. Although they have the pitching and if they get hot, they could carry them through the postseason.
Houston/Chicago/St. Louis. All are too inconsistent.
San Francisco, I'm still not a believer in this team.

If I had to pick right now I'd go with New York-Philadelphia in the Series.

atlanta will win it all this year. furcal and giles are always finding a way to get on base. sheffield, javy, and vinny are all healthy this year and swingin' the bat well. andruw jones has plenty of power. and chipper is finally heating up. hopefully our pitching will not be complete shit come October.

You all watch, D-backs will win in it all. Theyre gonna get hot, win the wild card. Go into to the playoffs hotter than any other team. And in a best of seven series theyre unstoppable, cause Schilling and Johnson will combine to pitch 4 games if neccessary. And dont give me crap about how bad those two guys have been doing. Theyre gonna turn it up.

the pitching won't be shit.

Maddux is 11-10 right now, but he's on another one of his losing streaks. You can say he's been inconsistent, but he really hasn't been. He wins 3-5, then loses 2-4. He's consistent in that matter. He shouldn't have even lost the game against the D-Backs, he just didn't get any run support.

Mike Hampton is now 11-5. 11-5!!! Seems like just the other day he was like, 1-3. he's on a 6 game winning streak, I think he's finally found the zone.

Russ Ortiz is like, 16-4, and has been amazingly good and consistent all season.

Shane Reynolds hasn't been pitching well all season, but he can hold the other team under 5 runs, usually, and you know the offense has given him an average of like, 7 runs a start.

Horacio Ramirez has been a pleasant surprise, he's doing well as a rookie, and I think he'll be able to continue the good work through the post-season.

The only way the Braves will lose in the postseason is if Maddux, Hampton and Reynolds all go cold on them.

I wish I could say the A's will win it all, but they aren't too good. Their offense sucks ass and the pitching isn't always reliable. Giants are in a bit of a slide, but should be okay once everyone is back. Atlanta has a good shot, though. Damn Braves.

yeah, Russ Ortiz owns the rotation. he would get my vote for the cy young. he's also shown that he's a pretty good big game pitcher. and Hampton is pitching great, hopefully he'll keep up the good work. and I was so pissed Maddux didn't get any run support against the d-backs last week. oh well.

and to whoever said the d-backs will win it all, you are a moron. the d-backs will not even make the postseason. sorry, but the NL wildcard is gonna come out of the East.

the marlins are gonna win it all.

they have the best pitching staff.
they have good hitting.
most have played together a few years which means they have good chemestry (sorry about the spelling)

i mean what else do you need?

the cubs pitching staff is better. their offense is as good as elephant nuts for breakfast though.

Being from New England, I really want the Boston Red Sox to win. However, I doubt it.. the hitting hasn't been very hot lately, with the exception of last night's game. And the Red Sox ball club isn't the Red Sox because of their pitching. It blows. Either the bull pen screws things up, or the starting pitcher does.

..So, I think the Yankees are gonna win. Why? Because they aren't a bad ball club, and the owner of the team has enough money to pay all the umpires off. So, yeah.

The only thing that could keep the Braves from finally winning it again is that god awful bullpen (as displayed in the Giants series).

With Hampton on fire, Maddux pitching consistently well enough, Ortiz dominating, and then either Reynolds or Ramirez doing ok, the starting rotation isnt as good as in years past, but is certainly good enough to not be the cause for losing.

They better resign Sheff in the offseason..

I think the A's will win it - their pitching is great and their batting is looking better and better every game.... chavez and tejada have been doin great and with the edition of jose guillen it looks as though their offense will really do well. The braves have little pitching. Their starting pitching is OK. Ortiz is great. Hampton is doing very well but he is known to choke. Maddux is havin a bad year - no run support - i bet the braves have bailed him outta some horrible games because of their bats? kerry wood is incredible and NEVER has run support. Braves bullpen is very shitty and now smoltz is injured. The Yankees have a great shot - they've just been slumping recently but that'll turn around once they return to full strength and get rid of the injuries. Florida has descent bats and pretty shitty pitching - dontrelle willis is going downhill (like i thought he would) because people finally realize how to adjust to his motion. Kind of like they did with Nomo (nomo is back to havin a good year, but he had quite a few horrible ones). The Phillies have no shot. The Cardinals have a descent shot if they're healthy and the bats are working - their pitching is weak tho. The Cubs have a descent shot actually - their pitching is best in the league (bullpen is inconsistent but starting pitching is incredible), and their batting isn't too shabby w/ sosa, alou, ramirez, lofton, etc - i don't see them doing anything but if they get hot at the right time they could. The Astros have no shot. The Dbacks have no shot. The Giants have a pretty good shot but i just don't see it. The Mariners just don't seem like a team this year - good individuals but they'll choke. The Royals actually are a tough team - they're someone you underestimate and then get dominated by - they won't do anything but could disrupt some stuff. The Twins are much like the royals - somehow they always do well. The Red Sox just don't have the pitching or i'd put them at least in the series. The White Sox are playing like the best team in baseball this second half now that their players they expected to do well are. Their starting pitching is good. Their bullpen has been excellent. Their batting is heating up and looking incredible this second half with guys like ordonez, thomas, everett, alomar, lee, konerko - don't see them winnin it but you never know....

right now, I'd have to pick these teams for the playoffs:

American League:
Oakland
NY Yankees
Chicago White Sox
Wildcard: Seattle

National League:
San Francisco
St. Louis
Atlanta
Wildcard: Chicago Cubs

NY defeats wildcard Seattle and Chicago defeats Oakland, w/ the Whit Sox shalacking the Yankees bullpen in a 4-2 series.
Chicago's pitching owns all so they defeat (in an upset), the San Fran Giants, and for fun, lets just say a Cubs/ Cardinals NLCS, w/ the Cubs winning 4-3.

And, in the World Series, we have an all Chicago city. And the winner is:

The Cubs.

Pitching is everything, and the Cubs have it.

No, I'm not from Chicago...I am from Illinois, but I am a cardinals fan. I hate San Fran and NY, and would love to see all th White Sox fans devastated to finally find out that Sammy Soasa is truly better than Magglio Ordonez.

transplanted...smoltz isnt really "injured" perse...they described it more as an enforced rest. He's not expected to have any problems when he returns.

And Busta...I first want them to resign sheffield...they should sign lopez to a one year contract...if he can prove he can have another solid year, sign him longer term...but its been 5 years since he's had a good season.

Bosox all the way!
With myself representing about 25% of all the red sox fans in new jersey its my duty to make it known that the red sox lead the AL in almost every offensive statistic. and plus in every past season the sox have fallen apart by now, but at the moment they seem to still be in one peice (even with all the media hype about pedro and manny) and if they keep it up i feel very strongly about their chances in the post season.

it sucks that Smoltz went on the DL. he had an excellent shot at winning the Cy Young. now that canadian fucker Eric Gagne will win it. oh well.

i just don't see Sheffield returning to Atlanta next season. he's always seemed like a greedy whiny little bitch and will probobly go to the highest bidder. i like the idea of Javy playing 1st base. hopefully, he won't demand too much money and will take a hometown discount. he's a career brave. i thought that same way about Tom Glavine last year, but we all know what happened with him. and it would be nice to see Maddux get his 300th win next season as a Brave, but not for the $15 million or whatever amount we're paying him this season.
