From MTV:
Let's get one thing straight right from the start: Director Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" is the best comic book movie ever made. And, believe us, we don't say that lightly. So what can we expect from the follow-up? Unlike some other trilogy directors we could name, we have every reason to believe Nolan and co-writer David Goyer planned this series all the way through from the start (see " 'Dark Knight' Script Picks Up Right Where 'Batman Begins' Left Off" (http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1543350/20061017/story.jhtml) and " 'Batman' Writer David Goyer Spills 'Dark Knight,' 'Invisible' Details" (http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1557699/20070420/story.jhtml)). So, from a pure story standpoint, expect Batman to hit absolute bottom by the end of this movie. Things are bad in Gotham, and they're about to get a whole lot worse thanks to new castmembers Heath Ledger as the Joker (see "Heath Ledger To Play Joker In 'Batman' Sequel" (http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1537544/20060801/story.jhtml)) and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey "Two-Face" Dent (see "Batman Villain Two-Face Speaks: Eckhart Reveals 'Dark Knight' Details" (http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1553188/20070225/story.jhtml)). Combined, they're almost enough to erase our memory of "Batman & Robin." Almost.

I cannot wait, seriously; July 18th cannot come fast enough.
This movie will destroy the whole Spider-Man [movie] franchise.

This is going to be amaising. I love Christopher Nolan's work!
I just purchased the script of The Prestige signed by both Chris & John Nolan.
I don't see why they have The Dark Knight at #2 and Indiana Jones as #1. Indiana Jones is without a doubt going to be a let-down.

Two Face? Fuck yes!
I hope he stays Harvey Dent throughout the whole movie and isn't two-face until the third.
**By the way, shooting in Chicago resumes this summer. They're using a code name for publicity purposes and so The Dark Knight = Rory's First Kiss. Rory is the first name of Christopher Nolan's son. The code name for Batman Begins was The Intimidation Game.
Inital shooting in Chicago from April 19-24 took place at the old Post Office aka Gotham National Bank (see picture below):

It was shot that way on purpose. The goal was to purposefully get away from the matrix/kung fu fight scenes and show something real. If you've ever been in a fight ... you know how close quarters it feels .. and how chaotic and unpredictable it is. It was based on actual bar fights.
^Agreed. However, Batman isn't a bar room brawler. He's probably one of the most dangerous human beings in the DC world. There's maybe 3 or 4 strictly human people in DC that are presently alive that could beat him. Even though fights ARE chaotic and unpredictable, Batman has had control of the situations in the majority of the fights he's been in. Especially if no metahumans are involved.
'08 is shaping up to be a good superhero/comic book movie year.

Not when he's JUST starting out (ie: his first ever fights in costume) ... he learns all of that through years of experience. I'm sure that will be shown in the later films.

It's very ikely that Two-Face will show up in the film. I only hope that it doesn't happen right away...that they let it happen later in the film and continue the story with a third. a message to screenplay writers: a villain CAN, and sometimes should, survive one movie and show up in later ones...I know how pleased everyone was to see Venom for half an hour only to meet his demise via spiderman's ability to hit metal objects and a cleverly placed pumpkin bomb.

^Completely agree about how the villians should survive. Its rumored that Scarecrow will be in this. Harvey Dent will become Two Face at the end of TDK due to Sal Maroni and it will lead to the third movie. Its going to be the best comic book movie.

This movie is going to rock skulls - easily my most anticipated film of 2008!
Batman Begins was my favorite film of 2005, and to see the origin story of two great villains will be owrth the price alone. The entire Batman saga and story is probably my favorite comic-book tale ever told (along with the Spider-Man saga).

this is real late news. this date was announced so many months ago, even before aaron eckhart was on board.
still excited none the less.
I am so pumped for this movie. Batman is the most badass superhero ever, and Batman Begins has been the only movie so far to actually get the character right. Too bad I have to wait over a year to get to see this.

I am beyond excited for this. The end of Batman Begins with Gordan n Batman ontop of police headquarters talking about the Joker n flipping over the playing card, still gives me goosebumps. Ah, this movie will be the best movie of 2008

I don't think so. After he gets his costume, he's already ready to wage his war on crime and corruption. He doesn't have the gadgets he gets on later, and have the level of paranoia/strategy (Yes, they're interchangeable in this case, haha. ) that he has later, but he most certainly is still one of the top martial artists, detectives, and masters of disguise in the world. He didn't train nonstop for ~15 years for nothin!

Ever read "Year One" and/or "Year Two"? It showcases his fighting (in)ability at the beginning of his career.
Of course I have. It actually showcases his raw fighting ability. He puts holes in brick fireplaces, and already states that he's trained extensively, that he has the ability, but not the method. Part of his secret to fighting crime is his ability to strike fear into the hearts of the wicked - and that's what he didn't have yet.
His wounds in that one building are sustained due to the fact that he's fighting in an enclosed area, unarmed, against several well trained members of the police. No matter how talented someone is, in such a situation, injuries are unavoidable. They're shooting to kill, with what are semi-autos rifles or something, and can probably aim pretty well. The fact that he didn't die is a testament to his training and ability. Frank Miller is well known for his more realistic take in some of his comics - he's just looking at the situation more realistically, because Batman is just a man, he can't escape unscathed every time.

And that's basically my point.
That he doesn't have his method yet? He clearly does, in the movies, by the time he leaves the prison and Liam Neeson's training.
The 'unscatched bit' has nothing to do with his ability, that's more of a writer's choice, honestly. Other writers have portrayed him as taking on the whole JLA and beating them all.

That is correct, they're all under contract for three. Nolan is the best thing that ever happened to the Batman film series.

Looks like Harvy Dent is all we'll see in The Dark Knight. According to a few artiles featuring David Goyer (the co-writer),
""I think Harvey Dent has been mentioned," Goyer said in an interview while promoting his upcoming film The Invisible. "I don't know that Two-Face has been mentioned (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=3&id=41015).""
**SPOILER ALERT (Highlight if you want to see the Spoiler)
"The next one would have Batman enlisting the aid of Gordon and [Harvey] Dent [aka Two-Face] (http://www.superherohype.com/news/batmannews.php?id=2978) in bringing down the Joker... but not killing him, which is a mistake they made in the first one." The article then says that "In the third, the Joker would go on trial, scarring Dent in the process."" Which I doubt as they have Sal Maroni cast already.
Either way, I like how Nolan is introducing characters in their infancy, ie: the future Commissioner Gordon as Sergeant Gordon.

I wouldn't have expected a happy ending for the sequal. For many trilogies it seems the second ends badly (empire strikes back, back II the future).
High hopes for this.

Finally, a comic book movie to wash the taste of Spider-Man 3 out of my mouth. Only about a year away...
