Their last two movies, The Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruelty, have been ok at BEST. But the premise of their new movie, No Country For Old Men, due 11/09, and based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy (The Road), sounds incredibly intriguing. And after reading The Road, I think i'll definitely have to check it out:

The film follows Llewelyn Moss, a husband out hunting near the Rio Grande (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Grande) who comes across a drug deal gone sour — leaving behind a cache of heroin, two million dollars and several bodies. When two more men end up murdered, the local Sheriff realizes Moss and his wife need protection. Things turn dangerous when various men, ranging from ruthless freelancers to ex-Special Forces members, turn up to find out the truth and destroy all evidence.

So what do we think? Coen's redeemed? Or another flop? Poll coming.

well, to add to the cool sounding premise, the cast includes tommy lee jones, woody harrelson, javier bardem, and stars josh brolin. and after his performance in planet terror (one of the few good ones) im excited to see him in something else. stephen root (office space) is also in it, and he's always great.

I don't understand how they had such a straight string of hits: raising arizona, miller's crossing, barton fink, fargo, the big lebowski, o brother, the man who wasn't there, then put out the forgettable messes that were their last two films.

How is that premise based off the Road?

The premise sounds pretty cliche and terrible but if it is based off the Road (which it doesn't seem like it) then it should be good. I dunno.

i thought intolerable cruelty was a little underrated. certainly not as good as lebowski, fargo, or arizona, but it wasn't awful. the ladykillers, on the other hand, yuck.

the movie sounds more like blood simple/fargo/man who wasn't there, which i'm looking forward to since their last two were comedies.

I spent two minutes wondering this as well, but then I realized he was probably just implying that the author who wrote the novel this film is based off of also wrote The Road.

Ladykillers is way underrated.

There should be a poll option for 'For the love of god I hope so!'
After this played at Cannes the release has been pusted back from August to Nov. 21st which is usually a good sign.

The paper said that Paris, je t'amie is finally playing in Chicago soon. I cant wait to see their segment in this movie.
