this is, believe it or not, a hip hop song. yes...im not kidding haha. i wrote this as a personal/political hip hop/rap song ala Sage Francis or Atmosphere. So yea, it may be a little odd, for me, but hopeuflly you enjoy it. I dunno...just though Id try something different.
In the Ring
From a boxcar a lone tramp emerges,
Whistling tunes only recognized as funeral dirges.
No one knows where he's been, or why he's here,
We just turn our cheeks and continue on, but the message is clear:
Apathy governs us so often, and we take this all for granted.
We don't even realize the thigns we've ignored until the final seeds are planted.
It's all about getting rich, or die trying,
It doesnt' matter anymore if half the goddamn world is crying.
"I'm all about representin' my people, boy!"
Well try representing all the ones who cant even get employed...
[chorus]
Switch on the TV, it's a routine thing,
We can all watch the world go at itself in the ring.
x2
And now it's broken heart vs. moving on to better things,
But the former is the reigning heavyweight in the ring.
One-two punch, the latter goes down.
The prospect for new horizons is out in only eight rounds.
Well the bell is rung, and this fist is held high,
But no one sees it clutching a bloody old copy of Catcher in the Rye.
While the crowd goes wild, and the cheers fill the rafters,
Our hero begins to read aloud from yet another chapter.
Hold on Holden, let's find that red hat.
Let's remind the world of where the real confuion is at.
Well now the story is read, and the characters silenced.
We're all just censored bits of flesh in a snapshot of violence.
The sky is slowly turning red, and our hearts are slowing down.
Just shut your eyes and hold me tight as we fall to the ground.
[chorus]
Switch on the TV, it's a routine thing,
We can all watch the world go at itself in the ring
