But that's the good thing about StarCraft. You don't need to invest yourself into it. You can just go on and play whenever. It's not like you have to level up your character like WOW or Diablo.

Screw this game if they make you pay for online play.
This game will be the first in a long time that I will have to walk into a Gamestop or EB and buy something to play, I haven't since my CS/WOW days.
I also wouldn't mind a follow up to Warcraft III. But I doubt that will ever happen with WOW out there.

Yeeeaaaah. I used to play all the sunken defences and Evolves and Golems. Those were the bomb. I only played Fastest Map Possible And Zero Clutter for melee or team :P
I cant wait for it to come out, but i think the multiplayer wont be as fun cuz there wont be all that glitchy stuff like hydralisk stacking, scv floating, zerg cloaking, tank cloaking, and all that shizz in the 26 trix games.
Haha reading back, sum1 who didnt play sc would not know wtf im talking about.

I'm doing the same thing. We're going junior high style and throwing a lan party for SC2. Granted, this version of our old lan party will probably have a little something extra in the coke. ;-)
I'm not much of a gamer but Starcraft 2 gets me pumped. I can sit and watch 1v1 videos on youtube for hours.

You should be fine. The game has extremely low end settings built into it although those settings won't yield very impressive visuals.

Right on dude. Me and my friend were both high level Starcraft 1 players so this is something we have been looking forward to for a really long time and I would have to imagine we'll be buying a handle of rum as well 8-). Did you play in the beta? What race did you play or are you going to play as? League? Or do you play custom games? Ahh I can't wait, the 27th can't come soon enough.
As for watching games on youtube, did you watch any of the beta tournaments that happened, specifically the HDH invitational? For the finals me and my friend plugged his computer into a big screen HD TV and watched it on that.
Man I love Starcraft.

Hell yeah I played in the beta lol. I'm still a bit of a noob to the multiplayer because my original starcraft gameplay experience was basically putting in all the codes and then doing a free for all on blood bath against the pc. I played zerg on the beta doing mostly 2's/3's with friends with about 20-30 1v1's thrown in. When the beta closed I was in the silver league in both which I guess isn't the worst ever. I haven't tried any of the custom games yet outside of a few of the tower defenses.
Yeah I watched pretty much the whole HDH invitational (whitera is the shit)and I just got done watching a stream of day9's Kind of the beta tourney. Idk if you watched it but I just watched TheLittleOne vs Tester Game 2 and it was beyond epic. Sickness. If you haven't watched it, I'll throw you the link.
Yes, I am a huge starcraft geek.

Haha I remember playing Blood Bath games in middle school and it wasn't until my junior year in high school when I actually tried to get good at the game. I have been playing Protoss since around that same time cause I liked the play style and it just felt natural to play the same race in the second game. I don't like playing custom games either, the map editor has produced some really cool maps from the few I have played which is cool because the game hasn't even came out yet. But yeah I definitely prefer the actual game.
And actually after I posted my first reply yesterday I spent the rest of the night watching the King of the Beta games on Day9's youtube channel. As a Protoss player WhiteRa is my favorite progamer with NonY second, I love NonY's phoenix build, and like you said WhiteRa is pretty much the shit. Everyone hates IdrA and it was awesome to see him go down to WhiteRa since he was so heavily favored in the HDH.

Protoss is the other race that I play. The warp gate mechanic is probably the best that they've added to this game. The capabilities it has from a strategical perspective are simply unbelievable. If you've watched Day9's tournament then you got to see how much better the Koreans are than the rest of the world. Every game they play, they seem to just outclass the North American and European players.
I've been watching Husky's starcraft 2 videos on youtube. I cannot wait for this game.

I don't know much you followed the Brood War or Korean scene but yeah, Starcraft is huge there and I am jealous.

The fact that they have TV channels and arenas set up specifically for Starcraft is so cool. Blizzard is pushing really hard for esports to blow up here in America with Starcraft2, and while I know it will never be the way it is in Korea I think it would be really cool to see the game be a lot more popular here.
I've been watching Husky's starcraft 2 videos on youtube. I cannot wait for this game.
Husky is good but he is kind of boring when he isn't casting without HD. He says a lot of stupid things and at times it seems like he doesn't know what he's talking about. Also his "h to the usky husky" thing is so god damn annoying and he tries to be funny by saying annoying shit like that. Day 9 is where it's at, he is funny without sounding like a jackass and actually knows what he is talking about. He is like a 6 or 7 time American WCG finalist in Brood War. Most of the stuff on his youtube channel is analysis as opposed to actual shout casts but he has a whole bunch of games he just put up from a tournament he is hosting.

Eh it's not that I hate Husky I just think there are a lot of people who do it better. What Husky has done for the community in the past 5 months or so has been really cool (especially his video with the cats where he was talking about B.net 2.0 that Blizzard acknowledged watching) but he gets on my nerves sometimes.

Husky is an interesting character. Unlike his counterpart HD, Husky often commentates the matches like a spectator rather than as an analyst. I'm not saying he's not a knowledgeable player but it's pretty clear that he's not as adept at the game as say HD or Day9. Personally, Husky's voice just grates at my ear after listening to an extended game where he's the only caster. Regardless, I think he does a great job catering to the casual listener who wants to hear a lot of excitement and spectacle rather than analysis and critique. He just tries way to hard to be funny. The jokes he makes... my god lol. The H TO THE USKY USKY shtick... please let it stop. However, I will say that he casts some of the best games I've seen on the internet. He picks his match-ups extremely well.
Day9 is the best sc2 caster imo. Naturally funny, knowledgeable, experienced, and he doesn't sound like a little girl when he casts. HD is probably a close second but he's isn't as casual as Day9 when he casts so I'm more inclined to watch a Day9 stream over an HD stream. Either way, they're the two best as far as I'm concerned.
My rankings for Sc2 casters would be this:
Day9
HD
Psy
AskJoshy
Husky

Moletrap is a Brood War caster and is planning on making the switch to Starcraft2 soon. He basically only covers the Starleagues from Korea and his channel is what got me into the pro scene in Korea.
Artosis is an American living in Korea who does commentaries for a website called SCForAll and also does interviews with a lot of the players and team managers over there. He stopped making videos for a while but recently made his own Youtube channel so hopefully he will start again soon cause he is on the same level as Day9 when it comes to being knowledgeable about the game.

That match was pretty sick. Although I think most of my favorite matches occured at the beginning, e.g. TLO vs. Nazgul or really any of the TLO matches.
Anyone pick up the game yet? I've got mine shipping from amazon..supposed to get here today but they sent an email saying it's delayed (probably a day or two, fuckers) and they cut the shipping cost.
Anyway where did most of you play in the beta? Leauge placement and such?

My friend sent me a text message in the middle of the night when I was sleeping saying "dude, king of the beta finals..... fucking superbowl of Starcraft" haha so I am really excited to watch the rest of it tonight.
Went to the midnight release at a local Gamestop with some friends last night, after the beta being open for so long it's nice the actual game is finally out. I played Protoss and started off gold (when it was copper-platinum) in March and ended up in platinum in April. After they changed it to bronze-diamond I usually ended up in platinum after placement matches and would end up in diamond before the reset. Most of my 2v2 teams with my friends were in the gold-diamond range.

The best advice I could give to you when you end up playing on battle.net is focus on your economy. I cannot emphasize this enough. Always be building workers and make sure you expand before you mine your main out. Some RTS games function differently when it comes to macro vs micro economics. Warcraft III was all about keeping your units alive and Starcraft and Starcraft II is all about pumping more out after they die. When I was helping my friend learn the game I told him whenever he would engage in a battle to focus his screen back on his base and just start rebuilding more units, build more tech buildings, secure another expansion etc. Once you get better and learn how to utilize control groups you can keep your gateways/hatcheries/barracks and other unit producing buildings in one and be able to produce units while microing in a battle or harassing a base.

Is anyone running this on just 2 GB of RAM? I want to get it, but it looks like I might have to spend an extra $100 to update my computer to 4, which would suck, but be beneficial I guess

How's the 'use map settings' games on SC2? I was so used to zero clutter/fastest (money making maps) that it's kinda hard for me to be consistently good. i'll give sc2 online a try, but as it turns out the UMS games on the old SC were ridiculously fun.... i hope it's like that too on sc2.

Psssh I'm running it on 1.5GB of RAM, Windows XP, 2.2 GHz Pentium 4, and an NVIDIA 5200.

It occasionally lags and jumps, and it's not as terrible as I expected it. Though apparently my friends always get messages and stuff when I play them saying that I'm lagging, haha

Hahaha I would rather be playing low Bronze than high Diamond. Every Zerg player will harass with speedlings and then transition into mutalisks. You have to protect your natural and main with blink stalkers and if they get caught in the open the speedlings will rip them apart. Every Terran player does a like 8 marauder 12 marine 1 ghost with stimpack push. EMP my shields away and pick off what's left. PvP is a 4 gate timing push and I spend the entire first half of the game searching for proxy pylons.
High diamond doesn't leave much room for creativity. :( I want to use a mothership!

Noice. I've only played my 5 placement matches in 1v1. I think the 2v2 and 3v3 gameplay is actually more fun due to the wide variety of units and strategies involved in it. Grats though man, that's pretty sick. Have you thought about trying out for some tournaments?

Actually yes, I plan on playing competitively. I am hesitant to sign up for some of the larger tournaments or participate in the LAN things around here because the only match up I am really confident in is my PvZ cause my main practice partner plays Zerg. My PvP and my PvT have holes but with fall semester coming up I will be working less hours so I am hoping that will give me more time to practice depending on my schoolwork.
I enjoy playing 2v2 because for me it is a lot less stressful than playing solo. A lot of the things that happen in 2's though are really cheesy and it's annoying, such as 2 gate and 9 pool rushes. I guess the problem I have with 2v2 is I use my solo build orders and they really aren't meant for 2v2 lol. 3v3 is a whole different story and well, lets just say I am lactose intolerant haha.

In a normal game against a good player where I am playing actively my APM is anywhere from 130-150 but a lot of my clicks are wasted in a sense. I do a lot of rally point spamming and toggling through my control groups and when I scout or am moving across the map I spam right click a lot. It's wasted because I only need to click move once or set my rally point once but because I am constantly going through my units and clicking my mouse when I need to do a lot I am ready. It's hard to engage in a battle where I need to pop guardian shields, lay force fields down, shift-focus firing with my stalkers, flank from behind with a colossus or some zealots all at once while sending a warp prism over to an enemy base to warp in stalkers to harass a mineral line when my fingers were passive before all of that happened. If my fingers are already used to moving around the keyboard at a fast rate and spamming my mouse then I can easily do what I need to do at a moment's notice.
But yeah I am good I guess. I am extremely annoyed with the current state of the meta game and have broken my headset twice already due to two frustrating games against Terran.

I just had a fun game where he marine rushed me and i zealot rushed him. Somehow, despite going to the wrong base area twice, I managed to win. Today my record went from 22-34 to 26-40. I played for about 8 hours today, took a break until just now. I got my new stalker portrait! But I dropped from 54 to 72. In a bronze league. And now I'm away for a week :(

I'm the same way. I really haven't done very much 1v1 so I don't know about most of the cheesy strategies that people do. Besides, I can't play 1v1 that much because it causes severe stress on my heart whenever I get into a long game. It's funny to go back and play Warcraft III after playing sc2 because it feels like the game is played through a permanent slowmo cam.

Yeah, that's pretty impressive dude. My apm is only like 80 or something like that but I'm not really even all that sure what people are doing to have it the mid hundreds. Terran is the bane of my existence. A friend of mine is a daimond level terran player and I can't seem to beat him regardless of what strategy I use.

It was posted on teamliquid.net, and it's called the magic box, and it's definitely a big TvZ gamechanger. Basically, it's using the way Mutas autoformation to defeat thors. Basically, the magic box in the title is the formation mutalisks make. When you click inside the box, Mutas bunch up and then move around to get back into the formation. This happens when you send them to attack a thor from afar, which then allows the splash damage of the Thor to just wreck the Mutas. What you do is you send the Mutalisks over the Thors and then have them attack. You also never click inside the "magic box". Here's a video demonstration:

Terran is pretty imba, mainly against Zerg. Balance patches will fix it. Blizzard posted some of what'll be in patch 1.1, and it is definitely a step in the right direction, though they made the Zealot warp time longer, effectively making a 6 pool impossible for protoss to defeat.
And it's an awesome game, and I know there are plenty of former WC3 pros playing it now.

Ha yeah, OptimusPrime is cool and all but I wouldnt want it to be my alias. The finals were definitely a let down tho. I stayed up till 5am to watch them and They were all essentially the same. Every match Foxer massed rines (per tradition) and NesTea fast expanded on almost every map. Followed by some sort of early aggression and/or cheese. Not a single game really got into a macro oriented one but oh well. GSL 3 should be awesome. I just hate Artosis and Tasteless casting. You'd think two players of their supposed caliber would be able to comment on multi-pronged attacks instead of missing them 5/8 of the time.

I actually love Artosis and Tasteless. Got a good kick out of Artosis when he kept saying "high level" in reference to a thread at Team Liquid. Day9 and DJ Wheat come close though. Huksy and HD suck. JP is annoying.
And yeah the finals were really lack luster. It was exciting that it went to an ace match though. Was hoping to see some hive play. :(

HD and Husky suck? ha, they can at least cast games without missing multi-pronged attacks. It's frustrating watching the VoD's and seeing dots move across the mini map and they completely miss it all the time. Between that and clearly missing units/tech being made in the production tab... -_-

Pretty much. I think me being at a 1500 diamond level could do a better job. And I'd wear something a little less tacky than a t-shirt + sports jacket.
Ugh so tired. Just got doing an FFA for iCCup's Extravaganza for Child's Play. FFA is evil :( People should check it out if they want to watch amusing games with some pros.

Yeah HD and Husky suck. I have a hunch that is why they didn't cast for MLG again after Raleigh. What they do for the community is nice but they never know what they are talking about. The most in-depth thing we get from HD is something along the lines of "and here our Protoss player is chronoboosting probes for a better economy." Husky is automatically retarded for his "h to the usky husky" thing he does. Artosis's knowledge of the game is unparalleled to any of the other English commentators and he jives well with Tasteless. They are also super hilarious together. Tasteless has gotten better as an observer since season 1 but there is definitely room for improvement.
Also I think that a blazer and a t-shirt is the norm for any e-sports commentator. :(

I think everyone likes them cause they are a staple to the community. I got into the pro Brood War scene around the time Tasteless and Artosis started working with GOM and it's great to see that they are back again for Starcraft II.
I guess, but they really don't understand the game that well or if they do, they just can't convey what they know to an audience. Meh w/e Excited for GSL 3 :/

Hiiiiiiiiiii
Me and my buddy run a podcast that focuses mainly on the Starcraft II pro scene in Korea, with a side of Brood War and foreign tournaments such as IEM or MLG. For the second season of GSL we both filled out a bracket and did a special bracketology episode similar to what they do on ESPN when the college basketball brackets are released in March. We had a lot of fun doing it and wanted to do it again for season 3 but this time get others involved.
So if anyone is interested we are doing a GSL season 3 bracket challenge where the winner will get a free season ticket for season 4 which is when the S-class and A-class players will be seeded. All you have to do is goto our website and the directions how to participate are there. You will need excel to participate cause I am too retarded to figure google documents out :(. You don't have to listen to our show to participate so I am not trying to promote myself or anything, I just see a lot of people in this thread talking about GSL so I figured some of you might want to fill one out and maybe get your season 4 ticket paid for.

haha I think so. I know I was promoted to silver extremely quickly (after winning 4/5 placements I was placed in bronze?), but since then I've gone something like 20 - 4 and haven't been promoted again.
Edit: Also, platinum is intense, good luck. haha

ha i was in the same boat, you'll probably get promoted soon. I was on silver for months, with a great, great winning %, but it wouldn't promote me. finally promoted me to gold after being 1st in my division for weeks, then promoted me to platinum after maybe 7 games in gold. makes no sense.
ya, i'm scared of plat. you could usually get away with boring/effective builds in silver/gold (i.e. 4 gateway every game), but i think more players understand how to scout in these higher divisions.

what race do you play? i play random for fun, but if you really want to make it to gold, you can easily 2 barrack bunker rush if you're terran. if you're toss, a 4 gate timing push, when warpgate finishes, usually wins. these will honestly work like 80% of the time, easy wins. if you know how to scout and micro you're units well, then you'll probably win 9/10.

I recently started 4-gating, after doing just a bunch of random shit. I 4gate always against zerg, 3gate stargate against terran (for some reason terran just falls over when a couple of voids are in my mix), and 3gate robo against toss. My problem now in my macro. I suck at remembering probes and pylons.

ya man if you have voids and you're opponent doesn't focus fire them, all you have to do is a little micro to make sure they survive to full charge and it's gg. my macro's iffy too...i'll do a 4 gate push, battle till a stalemate, retreat to my base, and have 1000 mins and 500 gas with only 4 gates. i need to learn to keep building/expanding while i'm engaging. that comes down a lot to me just being plain slow though. those fucking koreans are clicking all over the goddamn place.

zergs easily my worst race. i usually just early expo, get speedlings, and try to pressure a little bit so he leaves me alone until i can pump out 7 or so mutas. then i harass like no other and try to get a speedling/baneling run by. if you get a good amount of scv's, they usually gg out. if my opponent pushes hard anytime in between though, i'm usually done for. i have no idea how to micro zerg besides surrounds. i always get my queen killed in the first second of battle as well.

see, i don't rush lings. I put a ling at every outpost so I know they don't expand, but for the time being I build like 2 spine crawlers and pump out some lings for defense and then just expand/tech the shit up to mutas.

got promoted to platinum today. went from silver to platinum in a day. are we still in the dark as in to how these divisions are sorted?
Well, since you asked...I'm going to give you a short version (but will still be LONG, just think, it could be longer).
Basically, the TL;DR - You're placed into a division based on your hidden Match Making Rating.
When you win or lose a match your MMR changes. Unlike your points/rank, the MMR is capable of changing more quickly. The MMR is constantly trying to find an opponent of equal or near equal ability. When you consistently win against opponents then the system doesn't know where to put your MMR so your MMR will rapidly increase (the same can be said about losing and decreasing). This, essentially, is how you can go from silver to platinum in a day. Your MMR went from that of a silver league player to a gold league player. And after continually beating gold league level players it tried you against platinum level players. This eventually led to your promotion.
This, howver, is not all. Blizzard has been VERY clever (imo) in how they set up the leagues to appeal to CASUAL gamers, as opposed to self-motivated serious gamers. Not to say that casual gamers are not serious, but a serious gamer wouldn't mind the use of an ELO rating system where their points would remain relatively static over time. With the system blizzard has set up with the bonus pool, players are constantly getting a false sense of accomplishment and improvement as they see their points going up (failing to realize that everyone elses points are also increasing).
This isn't all though. Blizzard has also made different levels of each division. Instead of just having Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, there are actually multiple levels of each of these. For example, I am in a Diamond league. There are, however, low level, mid level and high level diamond leagues and other possible tiers. I think off the top of my head there are at least 7 known tiers of each division. Why did Blizzard do this? Not only are you matched into a league of your ability, but also a tier of your ability. Instead of putting a low-level diamond player into a a diamond league where everyone is in, Blizzard puts that same person into a low-level diamond league. By doing so, literally ANYONE has the potential of being top 10 in their division. And I'll stand by my words, literally ANYONE. With enough games and practice it's possible to put yourself into the top of your league because, in theory, all of your competition is so closely related to your skill level. Out of those 100 people, it's inevitable not all of them are going to be as motivated as you. Many will quit playing ladder games after placing or being promoted. Anyone, I'm kinda going off on a tangent there. These divisions were discovered from Blizzards Top 200. They released W:L ratios which helped us backtrace a players points when the stats of each player were pulled. From this we found that some players were ranked higher than other players who seemed to have a higher score. The explanation behind this lies within the tiers of division. The tiers can also be noticed by looking at pro-level gamers and their divisions. You'll often see a handful of other noticeable names in the same division because those divisions are so high ranked that very few players actually make it into them.
anyway, that's a short summary. sorry it's pretty long but to be honest, i've read pages and pages on pretty much each of those points.
PS congrats on being promoted to platinum and good luck on getting your way to diamond!

thanks for the info, i actually read it. do we have any idea which are the "good" tiers within each division?
haha, and i doubt i'll make diamond. my macro is so bad, once i have 3+ bases, my mins stay over 1500. can never spend it fast enough and I get steamrolled.
and if you're diamond, we should custom sometime, maybe i'll grab some tips from you or something.

Unfortunately the only way to tell the "good tiers" within each division is within diamond. We only know about the tiers through the modifier points given to players in the top 200 that has affected their position on the ranks. Regardless, the tier you're in has no reflection on your type of games since your hidden MMR is still what determines the matches you have. In other words, the whole division of tiers thing is pretty useless information to know other than the knowledge that you legitimately have the potential to be top 10 in your division. If you're really interested there's an in depth thread here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=169830
Anyway, yeah feel free to hit me up in game sometime, my handle is GetGood.297 on NA. I personally don't think I'm the best at 1v1 since I've been spending the last 9 weeks or so in team games but I've still been doing some customs here and there.
PS if you're in platinum as random then you definitely could make it to diamond if you picked a race. I exclusively played random in war3 but when I started sc2 I didn't play random for more than a few weeks. I went from gold to diamond in a matter of days. It's a lot easier to learn how to macro with one race as opposed to all three. Though i do give major props to anyone who plays random, I still think about switching back over from time to time.

Hmm, I'm not really sure about the lower leagues, but my friend is Bronze on SEA and Gold on NA, so take that for what it's worth. I don't know if it's better or worse, but you seem to have less points than an equally skilled player on NA. If I had to guess, I'd say a 2k player on SEA could hold their own against 2.5k on NA. Of course, at the very top (like Pro level) NA is better as there really isn't much of a pro scene here.
And I doubt I'll actually make top 200, it's just a pipedream haha. I've played against a few people that are in it and do okayish. I've got like two months off with nothing else to do though, so here's hoping :D

I have no idea about Flash. I can't see him switching soon, as I imagine he's making a killing playing BW.
The evo chamber thing is just showing off, it's actually pretty dumb. It's just building an evo chamber at the toss natural. I'm pretty sure it actually puts you behind hahah, but Leenock has done it in a few games against Toss. I guess it messes with their build if they're looking to FE. I can't find any links, but he did it last night on Gisados stream.

Holy crap. I came back to this after not playing for a few months...and I've been getting molested.
Ugh. Im getting to the point (playing 2000 Diamond players..still in gold) where Terrans finally understand the concept of attacking and not turtling. But I have to micro my ass off to survive while they just siege up and move marines backwards. It's kind of annoying. But it feels so good when I destroy army after army. lol.
I'm thinking of going random. I want to get into Diamond as Zerg and get like 2000 points. Then might practice Terran for a bit and finally go random. Zerg is almost as good as my Protoss now. So happy.

realized no one has answered this yet. the answer is technically yes but it's in violation of your terms of agreement and all that jazz. you'd have to change the e-mail and then whoever bought it would have to be content with your name being on the account. they could try contacting billing and get the name changed but from what i've heard is that they make that difficult to do and you have to have a really good reason for getting it changed. my cousin, for example, just bought a friends account and has kept his friends name on the account. only realID friends will see it so its not a huge deal

howd you do?
and i don't see it mentioned here, but how ridiculous was the nada/marineking series. game one was probably the most entertaining SCII game to date.

i did pretty bad. I knew I wasn't going to beat him but he completely took me off guard with a warp prism drop that had 3 zealots and 4 more warped into my mineral line.
and i haven't seen the nada marineking series yet but i'll have to check that out now. i was slightly disappointed by the idra vs jinro series because it went by so fast.
Rooting for MarineKing in GSL finals. Sick of people saying he is trash just because he does different things. Guy knows how to play and deserved to beat Jinro.

Yeah, I've been a fan of MK since he played a TvZ (forget against who) on Shakuras last season and he went mass marines vs banelings. I feel like he did it at that point in the season just to let every zerg know that banelings do not hard counter his MK micro'ed marines.
On a side note, I finally finished the brutal campaign last night (forgot about it for a few months). I now have 1590/1590 achievement for the campaign and a total of 3510 points. /nolife.
i did campaign on hard i think never did it on brutal. Don't care too much. Watch TLO's stream earlier this morning. His games make me smile.

There's a new mod out called SC2BW that converts BW to SC2. I never played BW but it seems pretty cool. All the traditional BW settings can be toggled on or off in the lobby to limit unit selection, limit building selection, auto mining, etc. Just join channel sc2bw for games. Personally I probably won't be playing it too much but it was fun to play tonight while I am on call and can't ladder. Just a little plug-in if anyone wants to try something new.

I'm diamond but play rank 1 diamond and then masters frequently when I 1v1. I Just haven't played enough 1v1's to get promoted. I have so few games that my MMR sky rockets and drops very quickly based on when I lose a game. I'm mostly team games. So if you're ever up for some my ign is GetGood.297.

TLO has always considered himself random. He has changed temporarily to races from time to time to get a more in-depth feel for that race but he's always been hesitant to commit to a race for exactly this reason. He doesn't want to tell people he's playing Terran (like he was most recently I believe) and then switch back to random. I'm having trouble locating the interview that I got this from but I know I read an interview from him somewhat recently (past month or so). I used to play random though and I'm considering going back to it. Yeah, he could do so much better but there's gotta be some satisfaction knowing that you're one of the best random players in the world.

I just finished watching them...
Spoiler alert
what the hell? MK really tried to base race on blistering sands with such a long rush distance? I'm glad mvp came out on top.
Ladder needs to reset so I dont have to tank my rating again to play Terran...Want to learn Terran then go random, but really don't enjoy dropped games on purpose or losing 20 games in a row just because I haven't had time to learn the race. grr. Also MKP failed. Really annoyed it was one sided.

01/29/11, 09:46 AM
Well, even if the ladder gets reset, your MMR will still be the same so you'll be replaced relatively in the same area. They were supposed to reset the ladder with the hotkey patch but decided against it until later. I kinda want to go random but I don't want to lose my 60% win ratio. Besides, I play team games mostly anyway. And I'm not annoyed that it was one sided. I'm more annoyed that MK has seen continued success for so long

He's good? His style is just different and he makes it work through good decisions. Deserved to make it to finals as far as I'm concerned. Waiting on TL Open right now. Hope TLO wins. His games are always good.

He's good, yeah, but only because so many players haven't adjusted to his style of play yet. Just like NesTea won season 2. He 14 hatched literally every game and got away with it. Now a days you can't do that without taking some serious risk. I give serious props to MK for his micro ability but he runs essentially the same build every game. IMMvP mechanically beat MK as far as I'm concerned

So glad Foxer got dismantled. Both of his trips to the finals were flukes and he had no business defeating Nada this season and Cool in season two. Good to see his build finally be exposed and hopefully he'll fade away into obscurity. I don't think a single player has ruined the metagame as badly as he has lol.

Yeah I get what you're saying. But it seems like each time he is starting to show promise, like his Terran in season two against SangHo, he decides to switch races. Even if he switched from Terran to Zerg back to Terran that would make sense, but random players just don't really have a place in the competitive scene. You have to have so many different builds prepared when playing in a tournament I just don't see how he can remain relevant past his popularity. You would think being the most popular player on arguably the most popular foreign team he would want to stay competitive and get back to Korea. Also from what I understand, the reason he left Korea in the first place was because he had carpal tunnel. Maybe he just wants to chill and enjoy the game now.

It's only 10 bucks for hours on end of content. I've gotten a ticket every season so far and I have yet to watch every game from a season, there's just that many games. It's totally worth it. I just look at it in the sense that I make more than 10 dollars an hour and end up watching 20-30 hours of it a season. They even lowered the cost this past season which is kind funny cause you get the entire Code S tournament, the entire Code A tournament, and the up-and-down matches. Also if I remember, when they first announced the prices for GSL1 it was like 40 dollars for the VIP ticket but after lots of qq on Team Liquid they dropped the price to 20 and returning customers the next season only had to pay 15. Now it's 10!
I just bought my ticket for the GSL Team League too, only 5 bucks!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Just look at IMMvP vs MK. Those games completely blew me away because I watched MvP mechanically destroy MK and I was trying to think of how many hours he spent playing practice matches against MK's style of play. That'd be three times harder to have prepared for as random. I've always loved playing random but it definitely does hold you back. I played random exclusively in war 3 and tried to play random when I played sc2 but the switch from random to zerg was the difference between gold and diamond.

I didn't hate them really. I was just afraid to commit and then get rolled over. Now I use them when the situation calls for it and it's working out well.
I'm so behind the times... but I just bought SC2 and I'm so excited. I got a new computer over the weekend so I finally had something that could run it. And I was doing so well with school this semester too...
