I searched, but was appalled when I didn't find one. They certainly deserve one 99.9% of the bands with official threads in this forum.
I'm listening to Pet Sounds a capella right now. Soooooooo good. Discuss the greatness of The Beach Boys.

Brian Wilson is one of the greatest musicians of all time, and to call pet sounds a classic wouldn't be accurate enough

hahahaha, oh man this brings back some memories...
the Beacy Boys were the first real band I remember really liking, even before the Beatles. years before I got into the beatles, actually.
I attended a Catholic school as a kid, and in about the 1st or 2nd grade, I got into these guys via a "beach party day" that school held. we all got sack lunches, got to wear Hawaiian style clothes, etc...the cafeteria was decorated all Tiki style...and they had the Beach Boys music playing over the PA. I asked someone who that music was, and they said "the Beach Boys" so I went home and asked my parents about them. So the next day my mom got me their "Greatest Hits" album on cassette. I played that thing non stop hahaha....
but I hated the song "surfer girl" since you know, at that age I thought love was icky haha.
Thankfully I grew up fairly fast and began to appreciate that song more.

Since you're into covers, have you heard Patrick Wolf's cover of "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times"? I might have asked you about it before, but I forget. There's an entire Pet Sounds tribute album you might be interested in. Architecture in Helsinki also contributed a track.

I was raised listening to the Beach Boys..I saw them when I was in elementary school and can still remember a good amount of it.
Pet Sounds is and always will be one of my favorite albums. I've been listening to Brian Wilson's "Smile" a ton lately, though.

Pet Sounds is easily one of the best pop albums of all time. Everyone should look into their post Pet Sounds albums as well. I still even enjoy Smiley Smile, although it didn't live up to Pet Sounds. Check out Friends and Sunflower, both awesome albums that don't get the recognition they deserve.

Smile is really good.
Favourite Beach Boys songs.
1. Good Vibrations
2. I'm Waiting for the Day
3. Sloop John B
4. Wouldn't it be Nice
5. God Only Knows
The original or Brian Wilson release?

One of the best bands to ever come out of the United States. Brian Wilson is a genius, and the way their voices blended was amazing.
I used "Heroes & Villians" as an example of 'advanced recording technology in the 1960's' in my Music Tech class last semester. More noticible through headphones and on vinyl, but it worked.

Aside from that, they are much "cheesier" than the beatles. The beatles early stuff is arguably lame, but even the beatles at their lamest are not as cheesy as the beach boys.

I love the compilation they put out with the Endless Harmony documentary. "Loop de Loop" and the demos of "Heroes and Villains" and the live "Long Promised Road", sooo good. It's a shame that these sessions are getting released 44 years after when they should have. When you think that Pet Sounds was a response to Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper's a response to Pet Sounds it's clear that the rivalry between these bands was a very good thing to keep quality standards high. Who knows what heights could've been reached had Smile been released. As far as I'm concerned, it's one of the biggest 'what if...'s in music history.

I've definitely heard very little talk about this Smile Sessions release, which is weird. For how much love Pet Sounds gets around here (with many ranking it above any Beatles album), you'd think the official release of the sessions from the legendary abandoned follow-up would get more attention.

I saw most of that love peak a few years ago. I think a lot of those people have moved on to other forums in recent times, I mean, AP isn't exactly the best place to catch the latest oldies goss. I've submitted many a news post about The Smile Sessions, none of them got posted :-(
Regardless, there's no chance that this thing is not going to get critical acclaim so I'd bet that interest might drum up after it's released.

To those who have been slacking, The Beach Boys announced the dates for their reunion tour. (http://www.thebeachboys.com/reunion/index.html) Foster the People are on at least part of the tour, not sure if all of it.
I hope to see them either May 11 in Pittsburgh or June 13 in Cuyahoga Falls/Cleveland. I'm glad the first shows are at the end of April so I have a chance to brush up on the songs they'll be playing that I don't know. Hopefully it's a good mix of stuff, ranging from the early surf rock days to Pet Sounds and the Smile Sessions (please play "Surf's Up"!) to later singles like "Forever" and (I know it's uncool, but whatevs) "Kokomo."
