Looks like it will be miles better than the original. Silver Surfer is a cool character in general, so hopefully they don't muck it up. I also hope they do Galactus well. Plus, the return of Dr Doom is always welcome because he's a superb villain.

I am looking forward to it. I'm sure it will get a shitstorm of bad reviews overall probably.
I agree with everything you said in the first post: better than original, and the return of Dr Doom should be great. He didn't get enough screen time in the first film.

Dr. Doom and Galactus are probably two of my three favorite villains of all time, the other being Venom (so you know i have some high standards).
i'm way pumped for this.
the Surfer looks awesome, and this movie really has nowhere to go from the last one but up.

a chick with an xmen avitar....cool.
as long as galactus isnt a cloud like posted earlier, this movie is going to be hard to screw up. i'd love to see some sort of awesome setup to the third one (if there will be one). I'd also like Doom to have more of a role. Doom is one of the biggest marvel villans there is, i want to see him wreak a little havock.

I am looking forward to this movie. I still think Fishbourne is a horrible voice for the surfer and Galactus was never supposed to be a cloud. HE was goining to be a swarm of something, simlair to the Ultimate Gah-Lak-Tus
It seems to be that this movie series has been doing an excellent job of combining the Ultimate FF and the original FF stories.

you and I pray for the same things.
And they are sort of combining the Ultimate SUurfer with the Original. Cause the Original can't go through his board or buildings. The Ultimate SUrfer could have though.
With out Galactus being human like I think it destroys the awesome ness of the Surfer Origin. Cause he can't have once been human and he can't have reasoned with Galactus to not eat his world

Well, we don't know much about the Ultimate Surfer because his comics haven't been released yet. Ultimate Fantastic Four just beat Ultimate Diablo, and now comes the story of the Surfer, who as far as we know is just "protector of the power Cosmic." Ultimate Gah Lak Tus had heralds that were silver men, but they apparently aren't the surfer.

in the preview they say 'how do you fight someone who eats planets," or something along those lines. i'm hoping that means it's the more human form. if it were the swarm, you'd think they'd say 'something.' i'm probably just reading too much into it though because i really don't want galactus to be ruined.

Fox Challenges America to Search 4 $ilver!
Source: Twentieth Century Fox
May 21, 2007
This summer, silver is the new gold standard - for movies (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5720#), with the June 15 release of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and for movie promotions, as Twentieth Century Fox (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5720#) and the Franklin Mint join forces to create an original limited collector's edition "Silver Surfer" U.S. quarter that will challenge movie goers to Search 4 $ilver.
http://superherohype.com/nextraimages/silversurfercoin.jpg
The collector's "Silver Surfer" U.S. quarter will be emblazoned with the image of the legendary Marvel Comics (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5720#) character who takes a leading role in the movie. This legal tender coin is a 2005 California statehood commemorative quarter minted by the United States Mint and specially color-enhanced by The Franklin Mint for Twentieth Century Fox.
Fox will launch the Search 4 $ilver in grand style by sending a specially-outfitted fleet of silver armored trucks out to deliver 40,000 coins to cities all across America, in time for Memorial Day weekend.
Then begins the Search. Those who find the special coins will be directed to the film's (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5720#) official website, where they can register for a chance to win a 4 day/3 night trip for 4 to the June 12th world premiere of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in London, England. The winner will be announced on or about June 4. Also, the first 400 people to register will be entered for a chance to receive one private screening of the film for their friends and family the night before the film surfs into theaters (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5720#) everywhere. In addition to the above prize opportunities, every fan is invited to visit the film's website (http://www.riseofthesilversurfer.com/) everyday until June 12th to flip a "virtual coin" for a chance to win instant prizes.

The first one was just bland. They needed to stop the pseudo-science about their powers and spring into action already, or at least build up the characers. Doom was bastardized despite a worthy attempt by Julian McMahon. Alba? What can I say. Her hotness cancels how much of a miscast she was. Overall, I can understand that some people defend the first movie by saying it was purposely meant to be pure fun and silly. But the x game tie-ins, Ben Grimm's fiance still in lingerie - leaving him after saving the day on the bridge, and just the lack of depth to the characters made it a not very good superhero movie.

I don't think it's going to be spectacular, but I think there will have been far worse comic based movies made. I don't expect it to be as horrendous as a lot of people are making it. I do, however, expect it to be better than the first one, as I've stated before.

I'm concerned, not because of the rating or the length, but because I saw in the commercials that they're going to "unite their powers to fight The Silver Surfer!"
As in, all four will have each others powers, essentially becoming Super Skrulls minus the shape-shifting ability.
Blah.

well, it seems like a lot of early reviews are saying this is childish movie. (who would of thought with a pg rating) most seem to hate it but some think it's refreshing for a super hero movie. it's obvious this is aimed for a younger audience but i still think i'll enjoy it.

I don't mind the first movie, so I'm pretty excited to see the second. I think the main problem with these films is the acting. Sure, some of the unnecessary campiness comes from the script, but I just think they could've done much better casting. I think Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans are great as Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm respectively, but Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, and Julian McMahon are just bringing the films down. Gruffudd not so much, but Alba and McMahon are just horrible. Kerry Washington is absolutely horrible as Alicia Masters too. Not trying to seem racist or anything with Masters, but I think it's stupid to stray from the source material. It's not even a matter of saying "Oh, well forget that because she can pull off the character well!" because Washington plays the blind aspect terribly! Oh well...These movies still beat out Ghost Rider and Daredevil (well, not the uncut one).

man, i'm surprised at all the negativity about this movie so far. I went into the movie with decently low expectations. and all throughout the movie i was just looking and waiting for things that would bother me, but if anything did at first it seemed to work out in the end for the movie in general.
Honestly, in my opinion it was the best Marvel Comic movie thats come out so far. This movie is what SM3 should have been.
The fight scenes were amazing, we finally got to see the whole 4 in true action (really only happend once at the end of the movie in the first one). The whole thing with Doom was great, the Surfer was fucking amazing, and i had no problem with galactus being what he was.
I thought the acting was MUCH better than the first one. honestly i don't even think it was comparable.
I just honestly loved every second of watching this movie, its the first time i've had that feeling seeing a Marvel movie since X-Men 2, or Spiderman.
if i could give it a grade out of 10, i'd give it a 9.5. i honestly liked it that much. and this was totally unexpected.

Well he also touched the Surfer (when he was hanging on to his board at the end) and the surfer has healing powers, so I'm assuming thats how it happend. And Doom had the board, so thats probably why on the last one.

What makes FF:ROTSS better than S3? The acting is better in S3. The action is better in S3. what's wrong with dr. doom? pretty much everything... his origin, the way he looks, the way he acts, the fact that he only wears the mask when he wants to go fight. Julian McMahon is a terrible actor and makes Doom sound like a whiney teenager whenever he talks through the mask.

I don't think you payed much attention to the movie at all....
Doom had his mask on all throughout the movie until the surfer made him look normal again, thats when tried to pose like he was with the government and the F4. He put it back on once he had the surfers board. It makes a whole hell of a lot of sense to me, not sure why it doesn't to you. You think it would have worked well or made sense for doom to join "the good guys" in full cloak and mask?
What exactly is the problem with his origin again?....
Whats wrong with the way he looks, the doom from the comics looks nearly identical to the one in the movie....
And I really disagree with you about McMahon's acting. I thought he was one of the better performances of the first movie. Doom is a different type of villain, he's not gonna sound like fucking darth vader.
Well considering Marvel comics are generally aimed at kids they want kids to be able to get in. that doesn't mean they throw in stupid lines to get little kids to laugh at them. Thats pretty much exactly how the dialogue has been from the beginning of the F4 comics to now.
I'm starting to think people are just making things up now with these movies, I'm pretty unbiased with this, i thought the first one was pretty cruddy, but i loved this movie, and i thought it was done very well.

yes i think he should have walked around in the mask. he wasn't even wearing the mask in the beginning when he went to challenge the silver surfer... it's like he only wears it when he fights the fantastic four.
As far as the origin goes, it's completely different from the comics. He wasn't with them in space and there was no lameass love triangle. Then of course there is the whole Latveria thing, but changing that is understandable because of mainstream audiences.
Dr. Doom is supposed to be this completely brilliant and evil villain, but you don't get that from McMahon's Doom. The movie Doom acts like a mean version of Reed Richards who is still jealous that he lost his girlfriend.

I'm with buysoap and livethesounds - I've been a big F4 fan since I was young, and that's exactly the kind of mentality you have to have going into a comic book movie: it brings you back to the days of being a child, staring at a superhero (which, if you are serious, is silly in itself) and being completely in awe at the abilities they have been given. If you think about it too much, you'll end up hating it and finding it stupid.
The first movie was pretty dumb and didn't take off too well from the comics, but this one improves itself tenfold. Much of the film seems lifted from various stories and comics (the dialogue and the plot line). F4 is not Spider-Man, nor is it X-Men -- Stan Lee made this as a family-oriented comic book, with the intent to be lighter fare than his other ideas. And that's what the film franchise is - it's silly, it doesn't take itself seriously and it's there for you to have fun with.

...I don't remember many cheesy lines in the first two Spiderman or X-Men movies."It is my gift. It is my curse. Who am I? I am Spider-Man!"
"You know what happens when a toad is struck by lightning? Same as everything else!"
...yeah, they could be corny at times.
I agree with livethesounds. People are taking this way too seriously. As far as the Fantastic Four goes, it's a perfect film representation of the comic.
Well, not perfect, but really closeI actually felt this way about the first one. When it comes to guilty pleasures, F4 is one of them.
jessica alba was 50 times worse than kirsten dunst. every single line out of alba's mouth is unconvincing.
and james franco is a great actor. ever seen freaks and geeks? he's so good.Personally, I think she's gotten better as an actress. Although I'll acknowledge she's mainly just eye candy. But, while she may be "unconvincing," she was more convincing than Basketballhead Dunst. And I at least want to look at Alba.
ever seen flyboys? annapolis? tristan + isolde? whatever it takes? you are fucking kidding yourself saying he's a good actor.I thought he was fantastic in City By The Sea. Annapolis as well. I haven't seen the others...

You know...I'm not going to say it was bad or good. I'm just going to say I was bored out of my damn mind. I think that was the longest 90 minutes of my life. I feel mentally and physically drained from trying to keep myself awake for that hour and a half. Chris Evans is still entertaining as Johnny though. The whole thing felt...undercooked.
They turned one of the coolest stories in the history of comics into a 90 minute movie that was half jokes about weddings and sexual innuendo about the Thing and Alicia Masters bedroom antics. I'd say I'm disappointed, but this was about where my expectations were. I really should have just embraced it and slept in there.
Also, this is coming from a mega comic book fan who also very much enjoyed the first one. I even own it on DVD. It's a great lazy day fun movie.

And that's what the film franchise is - it's silly, it doesn't take itself seriously and it's there for you to have fun with.
agreed
i expected this movie to be pretty bad.
it was much much worse than i expected it to be.
there was nothing about this movie that i enjoyed.
dude, why? I know you're a big comic fan, so i'd be interested in why you think this was possibly worse than you expected. Honestly I don't think I could have been dissapointed by this movie with the expectations i had going into it.
But I honestly thought it was great. I wasn't bored by it at all, i loved the action in it, i didnt think the acting sucked (ive seen MUCH MUCH worse ina marvel movie) I just thought it was a solid movie.

The First Movie did a good job with him. The second did a cool way of brining him back and making him normal again at the end he was scarred again so HE won't be taking that mask off again.
I like that when he stole the SS's board (Which he stole his power in teh comics so I was cool with that) he had put on Armor, it's kind of like they wanted to redo how they did Doom so just gave him a new start. (Kind of like they did in the Ultimates when he made his second appearence his legs were normal again instead of devil like, with no explaination because Marvel hated that idea).
They tried to combine alot of FF stroies into one in this movie. Super Skrull, Johnny and Sue switching powers, Doom taking SS powers. The wedding.
Heres a question at the end. Who do you think they were alluding too? Was int Mole Man of Namor? I hope it's Namor, he is awesome. Plus now that Sue and Reed are married it would be awesome to see get all jealous.

Doom was an excellent cross between the original and Ultimate versions.
We hvae differing opinions the Love Triangle gave reason for Reed and Doom to hate each other, more than a failed labe experiment that scarred Doom, and him blaming Reed for it. It gets the point across and needs less back stroy.

In my opinion, Alba portrayed the sensitivity, and the subtle damsel in distress aspect of The Invisible Woman's early years, at least somewhat, believably. Kirsten Dunst, while she MAY BE a superior actress, did NOT portray Mary Jane in the way she should be. Mary Jane is a somewhat shallow party girl. She always was. Anyone who has ever read a single Spider-Man book would know that.
If you don't agree, that's fine. But I'm not an idiot for disagreeing with you.

the difference here is that hugh jackman is a great actor, so it's easy to look past the changes. on the other hand, jessica alba is one of the worst actresses around. it's not nitpicking to want to see someone with at least an ounce of talent in one of the most important roles in the movie.
the differences between the movie mary jane and the comics are because of the writers, not kirsten dunst. if they wanted to make her a party girl... they would have had her go to parties. they made mary jane more likeable for the movies. actually, they made her act similar to how she is later on in the comics.
and yes, the part that was written for alba was a sensitive, damsel in distress who is looking out for her family. but did she pull it off well? no, i don't think so.

No, the way Basketball-head portrays MJ is not up to the writers. It is possible to have a feisty attitude in the tone of the films. MJ was introverted, moody, stupid, and always on the verge of crying. That was never MJ. EVER. She couldn't even say "Tiger"(!!!) convincingly.
