Being the lottery is tomorrow, who do you want to see end up with the first pick? I hope Phoenix gets it :-D

at this point, i dont care if we miss out on the 1st or 2nd picks. This current regime (Ainge/Rivers) is hopeless and if we get Oden or Durant, we'll probably win 35 games or so for a couple years and it will just give the ownership a reason to let Rivers and Ainge stick around.

I hated the Rivers hire from the beginning, but I was optimistic about Ainge when he first got here. All he has done is waste away the prime of Paul Pierce's career, though.
I see the Celtics following the road the Bruins paved and its depressing. Incompetent ownership that only cares about the bottom line.

drew bledsoe and bill parcells happened. that, to me, will be bledsoe's legacy. he really played a major role in saving the franchise.
if we drafted rick mirer, they'd be the Hartford (or St. Louis) Patriots. Kraft was ready to bolt until 1993/1994.

yeah, but i dont think it was more then Kraft trying to use leverage w/ the Massachusetts legislators in 1999. In the early 90's, when Kraft first bought the team, we were about to be relocated to St.Louis (Hartford was also talked about) until he decided to wait it out. Then, we started having success.

What do you guys think will happen if the Bucks win the lottery? They have a 15.6% chance and they already have Bogut. The easy choice would be to just draft Durant but who knows
preppyak
05/21/07, 06:23 PM
well...I just thought about this...the Bulls would keep Wallace and be able to play a 2-big if they wanted too...I mean, Oden is far from perfect right now. For the Bucks...why not the same?
bigmike
05/21/07, 06:41 PM
Bucks would look good with Oden and Bogut at the 4 and 5.
Drew Beringer
05/21/07, 06:44 PM
I would rather have Oden on the Bucks than Durant, Bucks got Redd to score, they need help on defense.
Drew Beringer
05/21/07, 06:56 PM
But I know Bogut wants to play the 5, so I wouldn't mind having Durant. Regardless, the Bucks have a 15.6% chance at the number 1 pick, so if they can get Oden or Durant I'll be happy (duh). I just played the NBA Lottery thing on ESPN and the Bucks got the #1 pick twice in a row so I quit. haha

Figured I'll post this here...since the NCAA basketball thread is dead...from Mike DeCourcy about the age rule:
A whole lot of people who don't understand the issue contend the age limit is a bad thing, but my yearly look at the NBA's conference finalists shows yet again why it was desperately needed.
Of those 32 players, 21 were products of U.S. colleges, with all but one playing two years or more. Ten are international products. Only one, Cleveland's LeBron James, came directly to the NBA out of a U.S. high school.
That's the same number as a year ago: one. This time, though, James plays a slightly greater role in his team's fortunes than Desagana Diop did with the 2006 Dallas Mavericks.
That's fairly amazing. So many of the league's most gifted stars went directly from high school to the NBA: Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady. And, yet again, only one of their number has gotten to the conference finals. There were 35 high school players in the league at the start of the season, but one still is playing when it counts. What results from having people play more than one year in college (something Bill Walker will be doing...despite being a HS to Pro player originally...there are a few others as well) is that their is a better talent pool from picks 8-20...the teams that go from outside to inside the playoffs with the right moves.

There's still a chance the Pacers could move up to 10th this year. I really hope that happens, because that's the only thing that would make the horrible 2nd half to the season somewhat ok.

Look for the C's to trade the pick if its not in the Top 2.
Executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Monday, "I would say there's more of a chance of trading [the pick] if it's not No. 1 or No. 2. It would be more difficult to part with if it's 1 or 2."

See...what I would love to be...if I was a GM, would be the team with the #2 pick. Because if the #1 passes on Oden, you just got absurdly good trade value...you probably pick up 2 top 10 picks easily...which, in this draft, can be as good as getting Oden himself.
Like, if Minnesota gets the #2 pick...they don't need Durant or Oden really...but they could use a Mike Conley/Acie Law...or someone on that echelon along with another top 15ish pick...all of the sudden their bench depth just grew.
Though, they may be one of the few teams I can say that about...maybe Portland, since they have F/C spot...but, even they could use Oden. If Oden goes...they might trade the pick of Durant away (they have Roy, Aldridge, and Miles to fill the spots Durant might play.
I'd just love to have that choice at #2...because a desperate team would die for an Oden/Durant...and if you think you have a decent team that needs solid role players and 3rd options...there are plenty of them in this draft

Yeah...I don't like that move so much...I'd rather give up one of those players and trade up for Durant, who is going to be a KG or a Tracy McGrady...rather than take the KG that is already there. Trading all that for KG looks like desperation...and quite frankly, the Celtics need to win at all before they can go into a "win now" mentality
The moral of the story is the Celtics need a 1/2 pick...otherwise they are doomed to failure somehow this off-season

i dont think thats entirely true, but they do need an impact player. I just don't think it would be a great idea to give up your future to just win (and probably not even make a confrence final) for a year or two. If thats what Cs fans want though...then whatever.

i agree with preppy's last part ..we need the #1 or #2 pick.
as for the Garnett trade, I would not give up Jefferson or Green + the #3 or #4 or whatever pick for just him. I wouldnt give up Jefferson at all, actually.
But Gerald Green is by no means a sure thing. His stock his hot right now, but he plays absolutely no defense and his jump shot is nothing to brag about. His value may never be higher and if we can trade Green + the pick for a combination of Garnett, Mike James and Craig Smith ..then count me in. Garnett and Pierce still have at least 3 prime years left and you've still got a young core of Jefferson, Rondo, Perkins, West, Gomes, Allen and Smith to build around down the road.
not to mention we've got an extra 1st rounder in a few years from Minnesota. Throw in a healthy Wally and you have a team who can compete for an Eastern Conference title immediately and a team thats still set for the future.

does anyone think that Yi will materialize into a legitimate NBA player?
He looks very slow to me...from the workout footage I've seen of him. The ESPN highlights they've shown...he looks slower than Yao...which is not a good thing. I know teams will fall in love with a 7 footer with dexterity...but, he looks very weak and very slow, and that will only work for a year or two before teams figure out how to dominate him
Sounds like he has the same problem as Durant...isn't big enough for the 4, but perhaps not versatile enough for the 3...even more so for Yi than Durant.
There is some concern as to what position he will play in the NBA: He lacks the upper body strength and the back to the basket moves at power forward and is a bit long and rangy for the three
Also
The general consensus in China is that he is actually born in 1984 or 1985, meaning he wouldn't enter the NBA until he's actually 25 years of age if he stays in China until his 1987 draft year
And because the NBADraft guy can't do math...he meant that number to be 22-23...not 25. The difference between 1984 and 1987 is not 6 years you jackass

(Note: I had to give the Bulls a "0" for rigging potential simply because there could be rioting in Manhattan if Isiah caused the Knicks to lose either Oden or Durant. It would be like the Ewing lottery, only the exact opposite. You might even see Knicks fans storming MSG holding fire torches with their shirts tied around their heads. I'm assuming the league wants to avoid this scenario.) Hahaha...that would be Renaldo Balkman x100000000000000000
10. Bulls (via Knicks) -- Joakim Noah I would cease to be a Bulls fan if that happened...I will NEVER cheer for that fuck and would demand a Kirk Hinrich trade. Besides, we have Ben Wallace, Deng and Tyrus Thomas...why do we need Noah? I'd either get rid of Duhon and pick up Acie Law...or pick up a SF to back up Nocioni...someone like an Al Thornton or Julian Wright.
They have to remember, Hinrich/Gordon/Nocioni/Deng are all due for a payday soon...and at least one of them is going to be going, so pick the least consistent (Nocioni probably) and find him a backup to train for a year or two to fill in.

Yeah..and he played terribly at the Summit Games the report said...so, I'm wondering how good he actually is. In China, he is Yao, he's a shot blocker and a physical presence...here, he is a tweener between the 3-4 spots. That's a pretty dramatic shift in game style

Oden should move Aldrige to PF, they could trade away a a guy like Randolph or Outlaw for a pretty good veteran starter at off guard, and I think they could be close to a playoff team. honestly. I really liked what i saw from this team last year, but they were so young they couldnt put much together. If not next year, this team is gonna be back on top in the near future.

aldrige is much more of a power forward than a center. it would be a mistake to take durant. sure he would help them probably win more games this year, but in the long run a player like oden isn't an asset easily acquired. big physical centers with this much potential do not come to the draft every year. good guards however do.
dont get me wrong, any team in the draft would be thrilled to have durant. just with the number one pick you have to get the guy who is going to give you a focal point for many years.

the celtics are boston. the excitement behind the best years of the celtics = the red sox now. The Patriots dont even compare to both of these.

hey i'm not a physician, but someone who is 6'9 or 6'10 and played PF in college is probably going to be a power forward. That makes both Wrights a good choice for Atlanta. Personally, I think Brandan Wright is clearly the #3 prospect
and anyone doubting the degree of fanaticism in new england, especially massachusetts, is speaking out of ignoranance. i'm not saying that fanaticism is anything to be proud of lol, i'm just saying it is there.

oh, i agree ..and thats why I believe Boston (along with New York and Philly ..maybe even Chicago, to a lesser extent) is a unique situation. Boston is a 4 sport city where they are diehard about every sport. This attitude also results in a lot of complaining. The highs are higher than ever and the lows seem lower than ever. You'd think Jeremy Jacobs and Doc Rivers got together and bombed the Prudential Center by the way they are perceived in Boston. It was the same for Pete Carroll and Dan Duquette.
i think the degree to which this city *cares* about its sports teams is unparralleled. Philly and New York might make as many headlines for disgruntled fans, but Boston fans have consistently shown to be grateful for even the slightest amount of success. Fuck, Steve Grogan was a legend for a decade just because the Patriots had some success. Don't even get me started on the way this city thinks of Larry Bird, Bobby Orr and even Tom Brady or David Ortiz already.
i'm not passing judgment on any other major city and its sports teams. I'm not saying the way Boston approches its teams is healthy (in any way) or the right way. All I am saying is that no other city *lives* and dies by its teams more than Boston.
