New York has just made a law, effective for everyone born after September 1, 1987. You can get your permit at 16, but you must wait 6 months to get your license.

In California, I have heard, that you can get your permit at 15 and 6 months, and then your license at 16, and can't drive people until 16 and 6 months.

here in jersey you get permit at 16, provisional license at 17 (can't drive past midnight, only one passenger in the car), and at 18 you get full license .. i think the provisional one is lame but .. oh well .. stupid politicians.

Virginia is by far the worst I've heard. The new rules here are you have to be 15 to get it then wait 9 months. Then you get a 90 day license where you can drive only by yourself. As soon as that's up you have to go to court, talk to the judge and then get your license. This is all of course after the 36 hours of classtime (no more than 4 hours at a time) and 40 hour driving (10 after sunset)

we have it here in oregon, and this thread just reminded me, MY SIX MONTHS ARE UP TODAY! but i drove people all the time anyways... so it doesn't make a big deal out of it, but at least now i don't have to sneak them in the car

in ohio its pretty easy. temps at 15 and 6 months. you have to have those for 6 months, take drivers ed. then at 16 you get your license, no rules about not driving anyone. but somehow im almost 18 and still licenseless.

in texas you can get your permit when you turn 15. you hafta have your permit at least 6 months before you can get your liscense at 16. then when you get it for the first 6 months you can only drive with one person in your car (not including family members) and cant drive past midnight or before 6 am unless its work or school related....

In Minnesota you can get your permit when you're 15, and as long as you've driven for 6 months with it you can get your license at 16. As far as I know there aren't any restrictions, although on my license it does say provisional. But I don't think it means much of anything.

You just made my day. Im from NY and I wasnt sure if the law was if you were born after September 1 or got your liscense after September1. I was gonna be pissed because my road test is September 18, but if your right then I dont have to worry. Thanks man.

In Ontario you can get your G1, where you can only drive if theres someone in the car thats had their G2 for 4 or more years. After 1 year (or 8 months with drivers ed) you can go for your G2. With your g2 you can drive by yourself, do whaetever, you just cant have any alcohol in your blood. After a year of that you can go for your G, which is the same as the G2 but you're allowed a bit of alcohol in your blood (0.08)
