The trailer looks like generic fantasy crap con Sam Eliiott (a plus). However, I hear the books are a pretty great affront to the Narnia series (an even bigger plus).

oh, and after checking imdb...where the hell are Hurt, and Bana in the trailer?

I love the books? I'm just exciting they are making a movie about it.

Nice to see Chris Weitz doing a big movie. His brother Paul gets credit for most of what they do (directing wise), but he got credit for About a Boy along with Paul... enough said.

These two really are awesome.

I loved these books! It's been a really long time since I read them, but wasn't one of the main parts something about little animals that were attached to all children? It looks like they dropped that for the movie.

looks lame. I wish someone would make an epic movie like this and not dumb it down for kids....

His Dark Materials was an amazing trilogy of books. Took the concept of religion and revolting against it and set it in a children's fantasy novel.

Edit: Also these books contain an army of savage mercenary polar bears that serve as an army of fortune.

Kinda depressed, i've heard such good things about these books, but the trailer was...meh. We'll see though.

Definately. It all looked slick but there was nothing in the trailer to make me think I have to see this film. A good trailer is one that makes you wish they'd run that movie straight away rather than the one you came to see. The first LOTR trailer had me nearly wetting myself with exitement.

Same here.

I'm so excited for this movie. I just pray they don't screw it up.

I must have missed it during Pirates...but I read about it the next day.

I absolutely love these books, and I was so happy they never made them into movies...I'd rather them be remembered for the fantastic stories they are than a dumbed down special effects fiesta. And I never really pictured Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter...I didn't really picture her blonde either. From the Trailer, Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig don't strike me as the way Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter come off in the books...but I hope it turns out at least not-awful.

Aaah I'm nervous! But I'm definately going to go see it anyway.

I highly recommend everyone reads this book before watching this. Then read the next two.

There's so much in these books that are going to be lost in the movie...
Not saying the movie's going to be awful before I see it, but there's just a lot of stuff in His Dark Materials.
So everyone go read them, now.

Quite a bit of a bump, but I sadly have just started getting into the trilogy and am almost complete with the Golden Compass and man...that book kicks all kinds of ass. I'm horribly addicted, going to get the next two books after work.

Very excited about the movie, but I do find it very strange that IMDB does not have a voice listed for Pantalamion. He's a sort of important character...

the books just get better and better after the first one.

New trailer out! The trailer is amazing, looks fantastic, with one main complaint - they clearly had to change from the book a good amount. I know they were likely to, or even had to, but from the looks of it a lot of key things are changed. Regardless of what changed though, the preview looks amazing.

I just started reading the books too and have been really enjoying them. I went ahead and snagged all three on amazon (15 bucks!) and am about to start on #2!

The new trailer looks pretty spot on though. I mean little details always change, but it won't be like the Harry Potter movies where they have to leave out major sub-plots.

In any event...I am excited. They cast Kidman and Craig perfectly. I hope this one does well and maybe we can see the other two books become movies.
