alright, so i'm moving into the dorm pretty soon, and i got this really nice (or so i'm told) hitachi reciever so that i can get all the sound from the tv, dvd, xbox, and cd player to come out of the same speakers.

but i can't figure out how i'm supposed to plug these speakers into the back of the reciever. the reciever has these plastic things where the speakers are supposed to plug into. and the things are big (they stick out like and inch from the reciever. and there's a hole in them but there is no way the speaker plug can get in there, cause the speaker plug is only like half an inch long and the plastic things are like an inch.

i am aware that this likely made no sense whatsoever.

in need of help - i suck teh electronic cock

if you do that you will only find pictures of the front. Just go to the place where you bought it and have them show you, if you bought it online just go to a electronics store and they should show you

Those aren't plugs... the 16 red and white knobs on the lower right there unscrew up and expose a metal piece below the plastic piece. Now i think the red is the posative side and the black is negative but no matter, you just need to put the copper wire (from the speakers) to come in contact with the metal below the black and red knobs to create a circuit. Then you tighten the knobs to hold the copper wires (from the speakers) in place... any questions feel free to post some more, i prolly didn't make a whole lot of sense

hey, thanks for your help. i think i understand most of that. but it's like this: the speaker wire is copper on the end that plugs into the speaker. but the end that should go into the receiver is a regular plug, and just one per speaker. the two copper wires come together into one wire and then it's a plug at the end. do you get that at all?

well shit, i say you bust the plug off the end and separate the posative and negative wires and then screw them down

no don't do that, i dunno what to tell ya, im gonna look at that picture again maybe theres an alternate place you can plug those speakers in if you don't have the copper wires exposed...

okay, i thought about it and theres a couple things you can do:

1.- See if you can unscrew the plug off of the end of the speaker-wire. That way if worst comes to worst you can always repair the wire again.

If you can't unscrew the plug off then:
2.- you can actually cut the wire down below the plug to expose the copper wires, then make sure they match up to the red and black knobs (i.e. the side that connects to the black on the back of the speaker should connect to the black on the reciever too) and if worst comes to worst in this scenario they sell replacement copper-wires at radioshack for like 60 cents

3.- you can see if they have adapters at radioshack for this problem, but they will probably just give you wires that don't have the plug on one end, just copper the whole way through (you can save your 60 cents and do this the home-made way, see step 2)
