They're great when you just want infectious pop-rock, but they're far from a favorite.

Sometime in the fall. They are starting to work on it now. They say that they have high hopes for it and that they hope it turns out even better than A Collection of Short Stories

Houston Calls is definitely one of my favorite bands. They are that sweet sunny music that is great to listen to when you are driving around on a warm day with the windows rolled down. They are cheery and sometimes I need a little cheery in my life and that is when Houston Calls comes to the rescue.

I saw these guys about 3-4 years ago with Valencia (When they were still the Capgun Heroes) and Hidden In Plain View (right after they got signed to DTR, before they developed more than a regional following.) 3 of the 4 members of the Starting Line showed up (kenny included) and it was a pretty kick ass time.

saw them only because i was going to a show in witch fenix tx was supposed to play at, but they got stuck in a snow storm and couldn't make it. got to hang out and drink a beer with them for a few. they put on great show and were some really nice dudes. been a fan ever since.

I really thought the same thing. So far, it hasn't been the case. I've had the cd since it came out (2005) and I still play it frequently.

Saw them at the same show. Only Fenix TX was lucky enough to be there. I was impressed and got to hang with the moog player for a bit. nice guys.

half of my friends turned the car around when they found out fenix tx wouldn't be there, then were double pissed when they listened to houston calls when i played the cd for them. i think the guy you're talking about is okie. he's really effin cool, and the one i got to talk to the most.

oh, btw, nice user name. in reference to mitch?

these guys are from near my hometown and played at hamilton st cafe, this hole-in-the-wall venue a lot even after they outgrew it. it was sort of their home turf and i always used to go see them there cuz they rele went all out for the home crowd and did different stuff in their set. it just got set down because of water damage unfortunately..
i like them a little more cuz of the sentimental value but their cd still has had a lot of staying power for me, since i pre-ordered it back in the summer of 05.

I thought Bloomfield was planning on re-opening. And that sucks about Hamilton, totally had no idea about that.

Holy shit, Drive Thru Records still exists?

I remember back in, like, early 2005, my friends' band booked a last-minute show with Houston Calls and some other shitbags they were on tour with.

Houston Calls showed up at the venue and there were only about 15 people who had come to see them and they tried to weasel their way out of playing the gig.

They did eventually play after some girls in tube-tops showed up.

lol

honest music in a genre that's become dishonest, sure. but one of your favorites ever? come on now, they're nothing new and bands have done this sound better before.

Had almost the same thing happen to me. Saw them open for the Fenix Tx reunion show and they were in the bar next door after the show havin a few so I talked to them and had a few drinks. Really nice dudes but not my kind of music.

Sad to hear they're breaking up.

A Collection of Short Stories is one of my favorite pop-punk releases.
